See, I'm trying to decide if I count as one of those regular posters. Maybe you should just stick with Safari.

You've been fairly regular since I've been around. You, PDFierro, GSpice, Krazy Bill, sarakn, and a few others.

I've never really used Safari except on my phone. My college "required" Firefox when I lived on campus, and I switched to Chrome when I thought Firefox was causing issues with my old MBP. I might consider switching if it doesn't improve, but I don't exactly like that iCloud syncs my bookmarks. I like them set up differently on my phone vs my laptop.

Can't you turn that off? I'm pretty sure the whole iCloud syncing your bookmarks thing is optional.

Oh yeah, I enjoyed the ride too. It was fun, even if we had to wait so long. And while I considered myself to be fairly knowledgeable on Macs/technology, I learned a lot from this thread.

I definitely learned a lot! I came to this forum as one of those "I have an issue and don't know where else to go!" I stuck around because most of my real life friends either don't care that much or hate Apple lol. I can be a fanatic with you guys and it doesn't seem weird

I'm sure there's a way. I didn't really use iCloud with my phone until I got the rMBP. Maybe that's why they made Mavericks free since so many people run SL and can't use iCloud :D

Yeah, my friends get pissed off when I talk about Apple. My real friends don't even know that the retina MacBook Pro even exists (I would think so, I've never asked).

I have a lot of Linux and android friends  One of them doesn't understand why I would buy a laptop where you can't just change out parts yourself in seconds. Admittedly the glued battery concerns me, but the other things not so much. I don't expect RAM needs to go up as much as they have in the past 4 years. Hopefully 8gb is enough 4 or 5 years down the road.

Before this gets archived or closed, I wanted to thank all of the regular posters over the past few months for the stimulating conversation and advice. You guys are awesome, and I hope to run into you guys again around here. I may pop into the Broadwell thread in 8-10 months just to see how you all are ;)

So far so good with my new rMBP. Everything is an improvement over my mid-2009, even if Chrome seems to be a battery suck. Hopefully Google fixes that soon.

Awww, that's sweet. Congratulations on the new MBP - we all know how much you struggled with your bf's loaner machine.

See you in broadwell when we resume the 'will they, won't they' game and I remain the pessimist. :)

MacBook Pro Retina-SPEECHLESS

This machine is freaking AWESOME!!!! I absolutely love the retina display....this is definitely a power-horse notebook!!!

Alright guys, well I guess this is it for me on this thread. I hope to see you guys in another thread in the future!!

Take care ;)

That's nice - I went all out with mine and will have to wait until next Thursday to receive mine. For now, I'll live vicariously through you guys. I bet the wait was worth it.

yo guys i just ordered the higher configuration with m750

but in the email apple sent me, under configuration, the dedicated graphics card is not listed there, does anyone know why ?

It really wasn't that much of a struggle haha. It just reinforced my feelings about Windows. I had to give myself a reason to wait and not go get a cheap Windows machine. Well worth it now :)

It is not listed even when you are still configuring it, you will not see it listed in your configuration before you finalize the checkout, so do not worry at all.

i phoned apple, the guy said that "all macbook pro 15' are equipped with a dedicated graphics card."

so i had to inform him that after the update the base model no longer has it, and the guys was like "oh thank you for letting me know that."

then he checked and confirmed that the dedicated graphics card is in my order.

That's true - the struggle was more waiting for your own machine.

:)

Did we're bidding our farewells, just wanted to say thanks to all as I've learnt so much from this thread.

Back in February, all I knew was I wanted a new laptop that looked nice and weighed less. Someone suggested a mac and having not used an Apple in maybe 15 years, I thought time to learn more about this thing. I've always loved the way macs looked - not black and not plastic - and I was considering 2 laptops; a mac for home use and a dell for work.

When I learnt I could run windows on macs, I was sold. When I found out Haswell was "right around the corner", I was sucked in. And so began 8 months of highs and lows, anticipation, disappointment, arguments and nail-biting - it's been emotional.

I can't remember how many hours I spent on YT watching unboxing clips and 'how to use a mac'. I just got my Time Capsule today and based on the many vids I watched, I was able to set that baby up in less than 5 minutes.

All in all, I'm glad I waited and still waiting as I won't get my MBP until next week.

To everyone who put up with my pessimistic attitude, I thank you. I know it must have been frustrating to read my posts, but hey, I'm glad I was wrong.

See you in other threads.

Cheers!

Made my final spec decision too.

Going for 13", 2.6 ghz i5 (I can justify that from the increase in Geekbench Scores from the 2.4, but I can't justify another £160 for the i7 when it doesn't get quad core,) 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD (Planning on getting a wireless external hard drive for video anyway, so that videos can be shared with my iPad.) Might as well have the 256 as the price difference between it and the 128 is minimal as it is 2 RAM upgrades that you have to pay for on the 128.)

Ordering tomorrow probably. Borrowing a family member's credit card and giving them a cheque for the amount to get the protection of s75 of the Consumer Credit Act in case something goes wrong. Putting >£1000 on a debit card online just doesn't sit easy with me; shame you can't get this config in store.

What wireless external hard drive works the best/fastest for Macs?

Well, basically all my friends were really surprised when I got an Android phone, but I didn't get it because I prefer Android, it was cheap and I couldn't justify the extra expense of an iPhone to my parents.

Couldn't you just network a USB 3.0 harddrive?

Does anyone think they'll ever come out with a rMBP with more than 1TB of storage?

Or would I be waiting forever? Lol

Wondering about going for the 1TB flash myself.. of course by February it's probably gonna be $100 cheaper... :D

Might be a generation or two. The way I look at it is like this: I need lots of storage, but not lots of *fast* storage. I need to be careful to put money towards the right kind.

It took me really really long to decide which laptop I get. On one hand I want a fast quad core for video and photo editing on the other hand I want a very portable machine because I take it with me while travelling (and shooting videos and photos)!

So I decided to get the 13" i5 2.6 with 16GB and 1 TB SSD. It may not be the fastest machine but I save nearly 500$ compared to a similar spec'd 15".

And here comes the interesting idea. As I already have a Cinema Display I can get in addition a Haswell or Broadwell mac mini with a quad core CPU. In total I have spend some more money then just the 15" but basically I get both, portability and fast quad core CPU for video editing.

Hey... You need a Mac Pro for that Cinema Display ;) ;) ;)

Yeah I had a Blackberry until January. VZW didn't have the iPhone quite yet when I got it, and my parents could get a rebate on the BB. My dad also had the original Motorola droid and ended up hating it. If they'd gotten me a decent android I might not have switched to iPhone. Still would probably be a Mac user though ;)

I was happy though that one of my Linux friends is quite impressed with OS X because of the unix system it's based on. She just doesn't like Apple hardware (prefers Lenovo to anything else).

Anybody else curious about the Mac Mini? It's the only desktop and one of two Macs to not be updated. I suppose a silent update this week or next is possible, but I wonder if they'll drop it from the lineup or treat it like the cMBP. I honestly don't know anyone who owns one. If someone asked me about buying a Mac desktop I'd tell them iMac.
