I meant colour wise. The silver is getting long in the tooth. How about black and white like the iPhones and iPads.

No - I think thats unrelated.

I dont see why Mavericks would hold up the release of a refreshed rMBP or cMBP. This hasnt happened in the past has it?

I went ahead and blocked out the 2013 predictions by month to give us an estimate of what Kuo was thinking. Obviously he didn't chart these out by the pixel and just threw in the dots... but maybe it might give us some insight on about when we might see some of these products roll out. Apple TV update didn't happen. But Macbook Air seems to be pretty close.

rMBP would fall around the 15-25th of July based on this chart.

I dont think any of us are looking for an iPhone roll out or even an ipod... but who knows.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I just have a feeling that Tuesday, July 16th we'll see something (rMBP alongside BTS). But that's just my own opinion.

So according to that, apple is just going to surprise everyone by releasing everything next month

Riiiiiight

Haswell (dat battery) and the drop in SSD prices are sorely testing my cMBP-lovin' heart. This poor college student might not go with the cheapest/most cost-efficient option after all ... Though the rMBP will almost definitely remain beyond my budget.

my MB will look current again! :p

Like everyone else I am hoping for a July/August refresh for the MBPs, however I'm thinking Apple might wait until September to unveil them alongside the new iPhone.

Most leaks, rumors, and trends suggest an iPhone 5S with a similar design to an iPhone 5, and I think the seemingly unchanged phone will cause Apple's stocks to take a hit after the conference. Apple might try and offset that by padding the conference with updated MBPs and Mavericks talk. Then it might be a similar situation with the quick release of updated MBPs a month before the OS X update. This would also allow them to avoid potential supply constraints, which if I recall was a lesson learned from the updated iMac.

I really doubt new MBPs would help them with their stock, everyone knows they're already coming. Meanwhile, they'd be missing out on summer sales.

Aren't they padding that conference with iPad 5 redesign?

Maybe, I think there would be merit to that, but Apple's release schedule for iPads was November last year, and I don't know if they'd change it again. I also think there is merit to them keeping the iPad release closer to the holiday season. Since the iPad 5 SoC will be based off of the iPhone 5S SoC, perhaps that is reason further for a separate iPad event (and release date) later in the year.

Now picture that...but more.

Strange that there is no rumor or leak about new MBP. They maybe are a few months away at least, which sucks big time.

I really like the silver aluminum look. If they start putting out black and white systems again, I hope the silver stays as well.

I agree, the current color coating on the iphone does not hold up well at all. But there are other ways to make the metal black that wont do this. My first gen iPod touch has a black rim that still looks great. It has some dents but no silver is showing through.

There was that geekbench score...

The buyer's guide shows that it's due now. The only thing that might push it back to August is a surprise new Display (maybe retina) and a less likely iMac update. So early-to-mid July seems likely to me.

Yeah, this was the one thing...but now I'm wondering... how reputable is that? Who's publishing this info, and were there any other details that could be gleened?

I can't imagine apple producing a bunch of units, then getting delayed by the igzo display (rumor), and then scrapping the line entirely, and creating a completely new / substantial design change. So again a somewhat minor revision could be released any day now...and then probably a more substantial update next year.

I think the writing is on the wall. There will be no new MBP. It's over. The rMBP is what will be released sometime soonish.

I honestly would be super surprised (and a bit disappointed tbh) if the rMBP gets out soon and we only have a Haswell, SSD, AC update.
It feels like if they are gonna wait until Sep-Oct, the only way they would excuse that is by having bigger upgrades then then what the Air got.

So while i would love a update the next few weeks. I probably would like it even more if there where some bigger upgrades like 4K display and IGZO and maybe TB2, but i still find that unlikely since Intel have said end of 2013 for TB2.

But we could also see just the Haswell upgrade this time around, and get bigger upgrades next year with TB2 and such.

Its just really hard to tell right now. At least i hope for more upgrades then what the Air got. And if the rMBP gets it i can wait until Sep-Oct, even if the waiting is agonizing. :)

I agree. These updates would worth the long wait.

So, is one of the potential reasons for the delay because we are still waiting for certain haswell chips to be available or are the chips apple might use already in production?

If we aren't waiting for the haswell chips than there has to be some new technology that will be implimented beyond PCIe and graphics bump. (Both of which I look forward to but they don't seem reason enough for the delay, as others have noted.)

Bts

For me it seems that one of the biggest insights we can get about the Haswell rMBp is from the lack of BTS announcement.

There are two options for the lack of announcement
1. Apple is discontinuing its BTS promotion
2. Apple will announce its BTS promotion later than normal (reasoning?) before school starts in September

First of all, option 1 is possible but certainly seems unlikely to me as it would significantly hurt summer Mac sales thereby crippling of their biggest sources of sales in the entire year. Also other competitors have similar promotions.

Now if we assume that option 2 is correct, then Apple had to have a reason to NOT announce the BTS promotion earlier as they consistently have announced it in early June for years.

So if the BTS promotion is coming, why the wait?

The most likely scenario seems to be that Apple is waiting for the Haswell rMBP to arrive BEFORE school starts (September) to announce its familiar BTS promotion.

So assuming that Apple will announce a BTS promotion, if Apple is not delaying the BTS to coincide with the Haswell rMBP then what else could Apple be delaying for?
