This is my understanding of the situation as well. As far as I know, Apple and the other big guys already have chips and chipsets in their inventories.

they always have. Those cpus are on the hands of OEMs since jan. For testing designs earlier than that

the controller deals well with larger sizes, basically it has enough channels and other stuff

its cheaper

it comes with the new NGFF, which means, cheaper storage for macs, since this is not a proprietary connector, it can reduce bulk costs, because its not only apple that will buy that

Also if they change the connector it opens us to avoid SF or the extremely expensive samsung 830 specially made for macs as an upgrade

and to top that off, we are waiting to see the new intel SSDs, hopefully using the SC3700 controller in the new format

aside that it allows them to move out from the dependency of samsung parts

its a real beneficial move

Looks like a release of Haswell laptops is closer then a lot of people think, NEC has just released the specs of its first Haswell laptop....

M500 is a step backward in performance. I prefer SSD 840 Pro witch is the best SSD for now.

You forget to tell SSD 830 and 840 have the lowest power consumption especially at idle and reading.

since when the m500 loses in performance? they are pretty much the same.

Yes I did forget to mention the power consumption

What I am interested in is if they go for the mobile Iris Pro 5200 (GT3e) or HD 4600 (GT2). After reports over the HD4000 struggling with the retina screen you have to ponder these things!

after bad reports of the HD4000 struggling.

there are no issues with the rmbp running win 7 or 8, there are no issues with the kira from toshiba.

apparently anand thinks they will use the MQ series for the 15 model, i.e. iris pro

Well what is high on the shopping list will be improved CPU performance and cooler temps and a bump in the GPU to ensure no retina issues.

I got a M500 480GB demo unit. IOPS are lower than M4 256GB or SSD 840 Pro. Transfer rate is also lower than a Samsung SSD 840 Pro. According to me M500 is rather a *good value* SSD than a high performances unit. It's not a bad one, but I now perfer Samsung SSD 840 Pro.

how are you measuring the IOPS?

Can this wait be any more painful?

My Dell laptop is on its last leg - a few months ago, the metal trim on the laptop base came up and it's being held down by butterfly clips and glue. :)

This past Monday, I lost the receiver to the wireless mouse and just yesterday I discovered the battery is 100% dead. If I unplug the laptop - accidentally or intentionally - it's goes bye-bye. Never has the indication that the battery was failing.

I refuse to even spend $10 on a new receiver because I'm leaving PCs for MACs and feel it's a waste of money. That $10 can go into my magic mouse fund.

If one more thing dies on this bastard, I'll be forced to make an emergency purchase at macmall.

I've waited since Jan/Feb and that delay has been beneficial because I realized I can buy the same system from macmall for $700 less.

Hoping to get rMBP 2.7Ghz/16GB RAM/768GB Flash.

I would be annoyed to be forced to purchase now only to have a new system released a month later.

I'll be getting haswell rMPB for new school year. I hope 700M will be included and if base SSD was 512GB it would be totally awesome.

If you believe they will choose IRIS GPU's with the CPU's then that only leaves two quad core chips in the haswell range.

The 4950HQ or 4850HQ , 3.4 ghz or 3.3ghz both 6MB Cache. Going to be very interesting what CPU's they go for.

Wiki speculation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haswell_%28microarchitecture%29

These may be a good option for the 13", but the 15" will no doubt go with the GT2 processors and just upgrade the 650M to something else. Either way I'm waiting for WWDC and then jumping aboard the the mac wagon.

Yes that's the other option , to plum for the CPU's that have higher clocks but slower GPU but chuck in something like the Nvidia 750M.

how are you measuring the IOPS?

With Anvil Benchmark tools or IOMeter using 4K files and changing QD from 1 to 32 (double each time). M500 have lower IOPS and lower transfer rate than M4. M500's power consumption is also higher than M4's one. According to my measurement and what I have read, Samsung SSD 840 Pro is the best SSD for now.

In according to this, the next Retina Macbook Pro may have the Sharp IGZO displays...

article mentions a 13"...that mean a 15" may not have? that would be strange...*update*...nvm, they have multiple sizes, just the 13 " in mass production currently..

None-Retina MBPs on their way out?

So I've been thinking about June's inevitable announcements of some form of update to Apple's laptop lineup; Pro and Air. But I've also heard whispers of Apple ditching the none-Retina MacBooks and making the rMBP cheaper as a consequence. How much ground does this have? Could we see cheaper rMBPs in June?
