Why is everyone saying they out Appled Apple? The new desktop is really cool, and certainly innovative, but for me personally I don't want fingerprints all over my screen and prefer the iMac. The Surfacebook is just updated internals, with very impressive battery life claims, but just an internal update over last year, not new. Surface Pro nothing changed.

Now will the new MacBooks be impressive? We will see, but I will certainly favor the new MacBook Pro over the Surface Book, for now, we will find out tomorrow.

You will only find those who complain on the net... the other millions around which work flawless are never mentioned. I've got a MBP 2010 at home, a rMBP 2014 and my wife a rMBP 2013... my parents a MBP 2011 and 2012. No-one had any issues yet!

Well, this was referring to me stating that I know 6 people who own a rMB and all had keyboard issues. So the "super-small-travel-butterfly-thing".
That does not mean that older Macbooks are bad (in fact I think older Macbooks were better quality-wise than the newer ones, but we will see).

Goodnight sweet prince, to the trash you will soon go. My first laptop, from 5 years ago. God I can't wait to ditch that 720p screen and 5400 rpm hard drive.
I have issues with my sticker labels at the bottom of my dishes when i first buy them. Thats the first thing i do when i get home. peel... some rip and i have to use goo off. I hate labels.
I hope you didn't have these on there for 5 years. I cringe when i see even one sticker on a laptop someones using.
Anybody else feel the same way about hats that kids wear with the stupid labels on them? Like are you trying to return it eventually orr?

Probably because Apple is known for being a creative platform, but they've let their creative/professional side languish in favor of their consumer products.

Watchout 6-12 month ahead - and all other PC's will have this bar too.

They already exist––it's far from a new idea. Apple's will probably be the first that works well, though.

so if i were to get the surface book that they just announced it would cost me $2,799. yikes. that's way too much for any laptop.

Well guys, I'm going to say that if they bring over the same keyboard as the rMB, it will be a frigging disaster. I have tried the rMB keyboard several times, and I simply can't touch type on it. You have to learn a different technique where you're in effect brushing the keys rather than pressing them. It's really hard to get the right pressure where you're hitting hard enough to actually activate the key, and not so hard that you are jarring your fingers.

I'm all for a thinner laptop, and my back really likes reduction in weight, but not at the cost of the keyboard. Please, no!
How do you type on glass? iPad or iPhone in landscape? do you slap your fingers down or do you adapt to what you're used to? You'll get used to it over time.
I tried out the keyboard a few times over the last year and didn't like it the first time around. Second time i took a little more time and tried the macbook->magic keyboard back and forth for an hour and i actually like the low travel. Felt quick after i got used to it and i was typing really fast on it.
I don't think it will be an issue for most people after a week.

Do you mind if I ask what kind of job do you do? I see you are fully in the Apple ecosystem. Any regrets?

Gonna buy my first macbook tomorrow, and if it doesn't suck I might switch fully to the Apple ecosystem.

I am a full-time photographer that specializes in action sports, nature, and wildlife. I am also getting more and more into video production too. I travel approximately 160-180 days a year to various assignments around the world.

I love the Apple ecosystem and really enjoy the integration between all of the products and find it be unlike anything that anyone else can offer. I have had some frustrations with the way Apple has been doing business over the last 2-3 years, but not enough to surmount the wonderful products they make.

I don't think you'll regret it and the upcoming MBP will be a great way for you to get a taste and see if you like it.

Cheers.

One point I haven't seen too much talked about is the aspect ratio of the new Pro 15. I really like the current 16x10 and am hoping they retain that ratio. With 4K 16x10, I'm guessing the resolution would be 3840x2400 which might rule it out. But one can hope, Apple seems to be able to drive market supply, at least with iPhone, not sure about Macs.

Actually the base model (new i7 version) is $2,399 (256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, NVidia 965m, 15W i7). Still, that's steep for a laptop with those specs.

I don't know how noisy that is gonna get. Oh well, we'll know in 2 months.

I've been following this thread since June of 2015. I apologise if I missed it when this was discussed in the past few days but you could have honestly just answered my question in less than 90 seconds or rather just leave me hanging.

Fair enough -- my apologies.

Odds are that standard configurations will be available in most Apple stores the same day (or the day after the announcement) and BTO configurations will need to be ordered online.

I wish there was a i5, 256gb, 16gb ram, integrated gpu, same battery life for $1600. then I might consider. base $2399 is way over my price range.

Yep, I'm with you here. I'll max out this one, as it's the only way to get some performances and for it to last a while, and then I'm done with this.
Paying so much money to get outdated hardware, every time, so Apple can boast the highest margins in the industry, took just too much of a toll on me all those years.
In addition, in the rare case Apple comes with a true innovation, PC comes with a better version of it shortly after.
- See Retina -> 4k is better
- Thin factor -> quickly not the thinnest anymore
- Weight -> PC caught up very quickly
- Battery life ... etc.
MacOs and the hype are the only things saving the Mac in my opinion. No one would EVER buy those overpriced, outdated machine if they were PC.
So I recently got a bought a Dell Xps 15 specked out to match the current rMBP 15 and boy my friends/colleagues with those same rMBPs envy me now. They almost all agreed how Dell has caught up to the Apple standards in build quality, the displays(maybe even better), much snappier interactions(maybe still not as good as the macs but nothing short of amazing) and we all know with updated technology(though that's about to change tomorrow). The only thing they didn't agree in unison, even though they felt good about the XPS, was the price; it costs the same as getting a new rMBP 15. I am impressed with both the machines and I think the costs for both the machines justify the quality of product. I am pretty sure people here would jump on me pointing me with issues related to the dell(which existed earlier), but I am yet to experience.

Still, excited for the launch tomorrow!!

Wow, I was impressed with the Surface Studio until I saw the pricing. $2,999 for the BASE model with 1 TB Fusion (I know they don't call it that) drive, Skylake i5, and 8 GB of RAM. Oh and that puny 965M GPU.

For that price, I could get the equivalent 27" iMac for $1,899, and the 128 GB iPad Pro 12.9" plus Apple Pencil for $998. $2,897 total, so STILL over $100 cheaper. Give me that any day.

I hate that ghetto style of leaving the label on their hats, that's popular in my area. I have never put a sticker on any of my 3 Macbook/Macbook Pro's or any of the 3 iMacs I have had, it's tacky.

just one question from Germany:
I sold my 2012 rMBP 3 months ago and want to get the new one tommorrow. What do you think is the best way to order? Apple Online Store with Delivery or with Pickup in Local Apple Store (~80km). I miss my Mac so much and want to get it as quick as possible. In three weeks I gonna travel to Dubai for work and want to have the new MBP with me.
Kindly wish you all a nice and exciting keynote tommorrow and thanks for further helpful replies.

So if we're to use Apple's existing 13" MBP as a comparison, it's current mid-level model is an older version i5 (256SSD, 8GB RAM and integrated Intel Iris 6100 GPU for $900 less ($1499)

So...if Apple throws in dGPU and the latest i7, can and will they do it for less than $900?

I think anything over $1,950 is over my price range for any major buy (not including cars, that's about $15,000 for the max I would pay for a car). I sold my Canon EOS 5DS for $2,350 recently and lost only $50 on it. It was a really good camera and I miss it but I want to save up a little bit of money.

Oh my god, finally. I gave up waiting and bought a 2015 MBP before uni started a couple months ago, but I am going to sell it and get this.

Some of my thoughts...I really hope it comes in a few colors (matte black would be beautiful). I am kind of disappointed about the keyboard but I think I'll be able to live with it eventually. I guess we will see the port and specs tomorrow! Can't wait.
Which one did you buy? Also can you return it if need be? Edit: Never mind about the return.

The butterfly mechanism doesnt really allow for more travel, its designed to be as shallow as possible
That's not quite correct. While it in fact has been designed to allow for shallower keyboards, there's nothing that precludes them to build a butterfly mechanism keyboard with more key travel. The only question is whether that would really be necessary, but there are arguments for using it instead of the scissor mechanism, like reduced "wobble" and increased firmness, that would make it worthwhile.

I don't think it will be an issue for most people after a week.
It still was an issue on the rMB for many, many people after several weeks and months.
