Can you give examples how Mac OS is dated in terms of UI, compared to "today's standards"?

Not to worry, the OS does not look dated though.

Apple needs to get the survey responses and then spend just a couple of months making the decided changes and then a few weeks to ramp up production. I could see a new Macbook Pro in Q1 2017, but not before.

I think the survey is for the Kaby Lake MBPs. For an October reveal, the Skylake design would have been finished a month or two ago. That much aligns with the chassis leaks we saw over the summer.

No software would be available for it...

We already have linux and chrome OS.

And what if it were to be launched with software from the bigplayers. Would that help.

I don't think the average person will like using Linux, based on my experiences where I installed Debian onto my parents' laptops.

Chrome OS is primarily a OS where you can't download third-party applications.

I'm talking about perhaps another UNIX based OS or even a Linux based that meets all the requirements mentioned above and before. Would that be enough, paired with great hardware?

I really do want to believe that there will be an October Macbook Pro event, but all evidence says there won't be. I'm certain that they'd wait to launch macOS Sierra if the new Macbooks were imminent.

And who are you to decide if someone needs a MBP or not. Its their money, not yours; likewise their choice, not yours.

I've seen so many comments on here from uptight people, including yourself, that feel that because others don't do work similar to yours, they don't need a MacBook Pro other than just "showing off." Why do you have to judge whether they bought a Pro and not just a MacBook or Air?

I think the issue here is with people buying MBPs (to show off or not doesn't matter) when not needing one then complaining that it's too heavy, not thin enough, doesn't come in pink, has too many ports they don't need and some other complete nonsense. Obviously these people driving the next MBP design and specs would totally trash it, we're fortunate this is not the case (knock on wood).

Just my $0.02 towards 1k pages.

Why would they delay the entire OS because of a Mac model update?

Right now iPhone has the spotlight. It has the full attention of apple and all it's rescourses. To make sure the release runs smooth. I doubt we'll see any new products until supply issue sort themselves out and other rescources within apple can be freed up. The earliest I'd predicted any sort of announcement then would be after October 16th a full month since the release of the iPhone. This would give apple plenty of time to focus on its flagship product before moving onto other things.

Although the lack of any solid rumours is starting to worry me. If we don't see anything by early October we could be seeing a later release.

Getting kinda feisty in here... people are getting pissed at each other just throwing stuff at each other getting mad. Sucks. I for one after reading this weeks 10 pages... man I don't know when anything is coming anymore, especially because of the whole survey logic. I gotta call today's status of a MacBook refresh at a good ole classic 50/50.

Like for press release or event:
50/50 for Sept 20th
50/50 for October
50/50 for March

I mean it's just up in the air all over the place...crazy

I just want to see some MACS MACS MACS!!!! anything damn!

All we had this year was MacBook Retina 12" wtf?

:(

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. With the headphone jack Macbook survey that just went out, coupled with the fact that the new MacOS Sierra is launching in just days with not a peep about new Macbooks, anybody with even a lick of sense should know that there will not be a new Macbook Pro this holiday season.

You do realize that the survey is probably for the next MBP, right? If the new model has been finalized then the team will start thinking about the next generation already, in the same way that Apple is already working on the iPhone 7S. You seem to be suggesting that they are just starting to think about the entire design now, which means a mid-2017 release at the earliest.

Uh, no. Apple rightly took a ton of criticism for the removal of the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. This survey, to me, in no way indicates it is for the generation of Macbook Pro after the next; it seems far more likely it's a way for Apple to say "See? We do listen". And I explicitly stated that I'm sure Apple has multiple prototypes of the next Macbook Pro, so I have no idea where you get the idea that I'm suggesting they are only now starting to think about the entire design.

Question to the folks who jumped on the XPS 13/15 wagon, what about fingerprints and smudges on the keyboard area/track pad? i seen somebody using the XPS15 in the airport the other day and it looks dirty AF , can you comment? I'm a clean freak and those things are a deal breaker for me

Fingerprints, an all black design, and the fact that I prefer 2560 resolution to full HD and 4k, are the main reasons I haven't jumped ship.
Although to be honest I think the 13 XPS is awesome, but lots of driver issues.

That's a good question. It's tough to look at the $1299 price now; Amazon is selling both models for $100 cheaper off the bat. I know other places have been doing deals. I think we'll see some sort of price increase to cover all of the new tech. Hopefully they can give us a $1399 and $2099 start.

But who knows?

I just can't wait to see what changes the MBA gets and if the MB gets a price cut.

My concern is, that Apple - as a matter of prudence - prophylactically priced the current rMB as high as $1299, that they'll be able to charge a minimum of $1599 for the 13" entry-level Skylake rMBP in the near future.
I truly hope that you'll be proved right, but in this scenario, why would someone prefer the rMB over the Skylake rMBP? Just for the ostensible portability?
To me, a price cut for the rMB doesn't sound like Apple in 2016, unfortunately.

I went back and checked out who Serban is.. I'm new to him !! Was he really leaking info !! Is he still a live? man the above page made me laugh so hard :D:D

Serban turned out to be a fake, which from the outset seemed the most likely scenario. Some believed him, others tolerated his antics because we were bored with waiting and it was somewhat entertaining. He only ever claimed things after other rumors leaked (and yes, we've had a few including my favorite: the hinge manufacturer).

But as all lies go, his grew out of control. He promised pictures of the new MBP and started a massive wave of "add me to your private message" posts which annoyed the mods. Eventually everyone who believed him or, at the very least weren't sick of listening, signed up on a spreadsheet someone developed. Nothing came of it: no private message, no pictures. He was proven without a doubt to be nothing more than a person who wanted a little attention. And then he was banned.

But hey, at least he wasn't Oppenheim! You should check out that chapter in this thread's history. No leaks, but it will lead you to question which ports are antiquated and whether you're a "high quality person" enough to buy a MBP. Seriously, good riddance to that nonsense.

The funniest thing about Oppenheim is that he ended up buying a current 15" rMBP because he couldn't wait. You know...the one with antiquated ports. Irony at its best.

I can't give you examples of how macOS is dated in terms of UI but if you would like to see my laundry list of issues with functionality just let me know. Finder is in desperate need of a rewrite. Don't get me started on HFS+. Have I mentioned the inconstancies in the function of the UI? I wish Apple would do another Snow Leopard and work on the internals of the OS instead of wasting time on these other frivolous items.

Please, God, can we get a file/replace dialog box that offers more than keep both, stop, copy?

Not to worry, the OS does not look dated though.

A Finder rewrite would be great. As for HFS+, Apple File System is coming next year.

If you have a list, with specific points then sure lets year it. What you've listed so far is mostly just vague complaints.

Like why specifically is Finder in such a need of a rewrite? It works fine, it's not randomly eating peoples files or that kind of thing right?

HFS+ - APFS is coming

What inconsistencies in the function of the UI? What does this mean? There is nothing specific there.

What exactly is macOS missing that Windows and Linux have "in terms of simple functionality"

Apple already did a second Snow Leopard not that long ago. It didn't fix every conceivable thing that people could complain about. Apple could do nothing but Snow Leopards for the next 10 years and people will still find something to bitch about.

And what is wrong with the replace dialog box? Keep Both, Stop and Replace seem reasonable options how many more do you need exactly?

if this thread was a movie, this post would be the moment Morgan Freeman enters the scene.
