Where is everyone? Where did all the Waiting For Skylake thread people go?

I got tired of waiting and picked up a maxed out mid 2015 15" refurb mbp. I don't think the new Macbook design will be ready for serious consideration until possibly some time in 2018. Once that thing has 32-64 gb of ram, Intel Optane, wireless charging, Apple designed cpus?, and whatever it is they are going to do with the huge touch pad, etc... then I'll have to re-examine my options.

Well yes, but I was referring to the much broader basket of design choices Apple has made that makes that necessary. The opportunity cost on 2mm of thickness and 2.5 hours of battery life is becoming increasingly indefensible.

Do you have any idea of the complaints and moaning there would be if Apple were to increase the thickness or weight of their laptops for a faster GPU/longer battery life?

It would make the moaning by those disappointed by the new MBPs seem like a nit.

Anything Apple does will provoke whining, from not using a CPU that isn't even shipping yet to not allowing you to stuff in desktop amounts of RAM to not using a gamer-style GPU.

At this point Apple's stuck and just has to go with "who do we want to upset" when designing new products.

Actually. I don't think this is true. That's why they used to have different machines for different target groups. Now the Pro and the Air have basically become one.

Just offer different options for different people.

The 2015 chassis dimensions would be perfectly capable of coping with 2016/17 pro-level ultrabook components (see the Razer line)... the new version, not so much.

Yeah, I think this is the main issue. By going that thin they had to reduce the TDP for all the components. Getting rid of magsafe and using USB-C for power, limits the wattage to 100. USB-C power specs were mostly designed for ultrabooks or powering external devices.

Apple could easily fix this next year by hopefully creating two lineups like they did in the past. The current macbook pro 2016 lineup could just be called macbook for those who don't need too much power but also want to do some light intensive work. Maybe just use Intel graphics and get rid of the dGPU in the 15" model. Also reduce the price by about 15 - 20%. Then create a new Macbook Pro lineup with the same dimensions as last years model, bring back magsafe so you can use more powerful CPU's and GPU's, while also putting back some much needed ports.

The macbooks can then be for the general mac user. All those hipsters in their expensive coffee shops. But let us pro users who almost always plug in our power supplies, but have to carry around our workstation laptops to work, get the best components available.

I think Apple was just trying to reduce production costs by only having one model (the macbook 12" being the lone exception). For some reason it seems like they want to call everything "pro" now.

That said, it's entirely possible Apple could decide to give up 45W and move down to either 28W or 15W. They're always looking for thinner and more power efficient processors.
[doublepost=1478001765][/doublepost]This is going to be one epic thread if it's going to cover Kaby Lake, Cannonlake, AND Coffee Lake.

I don't think they'll move to 28 and 15W. Right now the 15" models still use 45W combined with discrete graphics. I would expect to see the end of discrete graphics models prior to any processor class downgrade. Intel hasn't released any 28W quad cpus so far, so there's also that.

Does anyone know if the macbook pro 2015 with 15 inch retina came with Broadwell processor? im thinking of buying a 2015 15invh retina but only if it is broadwell. Replies much appreciated !!

I can't wait until wireless charging and no ports, said no one ever.
You are on a forum where people were actively campaigning for headphone jack removal from iPhone 7 because they... because... beats me but they hated having it and nobody wanted to do what I suggest and modernise their phone by closing it with superglue.

They have been all Haswell since late 2013, through till the current mid 2015 models.

They have Haswell CPU but in my opinion they are great devices ( you can see benchmarks and how they perform in daily work)... Infact i want to buy one because i don't like the new 2016 models...

Oh yeah, load up TweetDeck, and watch the @Apple flow, people are nuts...

Thanks for the info everyone! I agree! The older model has 2 thunderbolt 2 and 2 usb and a separste port for charging so it wont occupy the other ports plus a sd slot. Im considering the same.

Great deal right here but i wish it was the 2.8ghz and 1tb. The

Not Enough Pro? Outdated?

I already have a 15" Skylake MBP ordered but I'll join this thread even though I'm not waiting to buy anything with Kaby/Cannon/Coffe/Ice/Tiger lake. The new MBP should last me until Whiskey Lake is released and we will all celebrate and get drunk together with @WRONG. ;)

Didn't use the same program. It's is basicly software encoding vs hardware encoding. Had he used hardware encoding on the kaby lake, it would have crushed skylake.

irrelevant, if you need video edit you must buy mac, its faster and more optimised with final cut

Lol no, just because he didn't activate hardware encoding on one platform it sucks? Because he deliberately selected the CPU encoder? Come back to reality.

Refurbs are definitely a great way to go. Or even 2nd hand market if you can check it in-depth to make sure it works 100%. The 2nd hand value of MacBook Pros is much lower than it used to be. Here in Sweden I see the 2013-2015 models at something like $500.
