So I have a 13" 2012 MacBook Pro (i7) that's upgradeable lol, it even has an optical disk drive haha. I just added 8 GB of RAM to make 16 and added a 512 GB 2.5" SSD. I keep hearing about how the newer Macs are not upgradeable lol so I thought I'd bring that up to reiterate how much Apple has changed throughout the years. I didn't get too far into this thread before deciding to add my own question, so sorry if this was answered already.

Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade, is it recommended to wait for 2017s model at this point, or should I just bite the bullet and go in on a 2016 model with touch bar?

If you need one now, get it. Like always if you can wait, then wait.

the 2016 mbp has to much "physical problems" like the keyboards (atm applestores no longer change the whole top case but are requested to install some shims) the "open to power-on" that sometimes doesn't work properly (maybe just a fw update, maybe?) and the batteries/power management units that clearly needs some improvements.
IMHO we could expect a "speed bump+correction" by june, and maybe a little price drop...

Would love to see that...
Personally I will wait till WWDC, if nothing happens, I will buy the 15"(2,9/512/460)-model

Kaby lake are coming...but i wonder if both cpu for both 13" and 15" are even out?
[doublepost=1494963821][/doublepost]kaby lake cpu for the 15" MBP are out from Intel?

I wonder whether the WWDC MBP update (if it does indeed happen... but coming from Bloomberg I do believe it to be true) is the mythical MacBook Pro PRO... with 32GB Desktop-class ram etc. that would make pros happy... as was rumored. Correct me if I'm wrong though... wasn't that rumored only for Q3/Q4 of this year and said to be the most drastically redesigned machine of the year?

Ah, yes... it was Kuo who said this:

According to reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has a MacBook Pro refresh planned for later this year that will bring new Kaby Lake CPUs and up to 32GB of desktop-class RAM. It will be “the most significantly redesigned product this year,” Kuo says.

I still don't really understand though... in what way it could be "the most significantly redesigned product [of the] year"...

^ Mark Gurman has a very good track record of these things. This is surprising and welcomed news for those who were waiting for newer models.

With all the issues the 2016 models have had, I can understand why Apple wants to get something new out on the market sooner than later, especially when the appropriate Kaby Lake processors have been available for a while now, and also with the pressure the Surface Laptop will put on the market. Apple can really undercut that with a souped up MBA for instance.

I'm still stuck on Kuo's quote. If it's basically just a spec-bump... how can it be the “the most significantly redesigned product this year”?
If the WWDC is not what he is talking about... what is coming up the in fall? A Macbook Pro Plus :D ? Return of the 17"MBP? One can only hope...

I hope Apple comes back to more reasonable pricing or more ways to configure the laptop. E.g. With or without touchbar.

They usually do drop prices after an initial redesign and big updates, the iMac 5K for example was more expensive when it first released and then the year after they dropped the price by $200.

He does have a very good track record, it's even been said that he has someone inside Apple at the higher up level that feed's him information every so often. How true that is tho we don't know.

If it's anything more than a spec update, you gotta feel for the people who dropped $2500+ on the 2016 Pro.

But I'm guessing it's just a Kaby Lake CPU upgrade.

What dGPU upgrades to we expect at WWDC?
i dont think nvidia, but amd 500 series for the 15" MBP

Meanwhile, i think Apple is smart and they get the internals upgrades for 12" Macbook and for the 13" 15" MBP and in fall,we get the mac mini, imac
