I'm really curious toward this WWDC.
But I'm also prepared to disappointment.

How many WWDC have you suffered through thus far, what's one more?

I can remember it like it was yesterday, Tim & Co take 30 agonizing mins to talk about the playground whatever app, then wave to the crowd and dash off taking our dreams with him. There was nothing for WWDC 2015, 2016 IIRC. Will 2017 be any different? Really? I hope you all get a nice MBP on the fifth, but it seems so remote.

The thinness is fine. In fact the MBP is a great computer for most people. It is just a minority who want Razor specs in a Mac.

It is funny you should mention Razer, because they make a laptop as thin as the 2015 rMBP with a nVidia 1060...

And if Razer can, I imagine Apple would make an awesome machine, while keeping an already perfect form factor...but they decided not to

They had the opportunity to release a product like that one year ago (more or less) but they didn't.
They've preferred to reduce size and weight. That's what most of the people want.

I don't think people are looking for a complete redesign, or something revolutionary at WWDC - at least I'm not. While there are aspects of the MBP that I don't like, I'd be happy if they addressed the fragile keyboard. While the lack of HDMI and the SD card slot is an issue, the show stopper for me is the keyboard. My faith in Apple's quality is shaken.
The keyboard is definitely going to get a sinlent update, they already changed how they repair them, and the new units should ship with "corrected" keyboards already.
Probably they are going to rearrange the internals to have a better keyboard and battery, but we are not going to get sd card slot or hdmi or things like that.

How so?

This is good news, and hopefully things will be improving.
The second time a friend of mine brought in his 15" 2016 instead of replacing the top case they proposed a "shim kit" repair...or something like that. No problem since then

Nice, while I'm debating what to buy, I know my daughters have their hopes and expectations that I get a MBP. They feel so much more comfortable with OS X over windows, even though they use windows at school. My needs are slanted towards windows as I need that OS for my job, but I think I need to look to make everyone happy ;)

AND NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT OUR REPAIRING IPHONE ROBOT, LIAM!
Gosh, what an agony.
And do not forget the cows.
Slides of cows in the fields.

Yeah, That was downright painful. One can only hope they did a review of their performance and change it up. Cook just doesn't have any sort of stage presence.

That's something I was thinking yesterday as I was watching again the October Keynote.
They self don't seems impressed with the product they are introducing.
Tim Cook (and sometimes even Phil Schiller) introducing the new MacBook Pro seems as they are not really believing what they are saying and what they are introducing.
That's boring.

I definitely think new MBPs are coming next month. Went out to Best Buy's website this morning to check prices and inventory on the current 2016 MBP, and there were none for 250 miles around the Dallas area. Very unusual for Dallas. We have tons of Best Buys in this area, and usually there's always several stores that have a few MacBook Pros in stock. But not today. Nada. Zippo. The BB website says the earliest one can get delivered is end-of-month. So it looks BB is holding off until the new models hit.

CORRECTION: Found some space grey models but no silver.

The competition is creeping up on Apple fast, Huawei announced a new laptop the Mate Book with both USB C and USB A and HDMI ports with finger print reader that's in addition to Microsoft updating the Surfacepro recently. The time for Apple to rest on its laurels is over. It all points to why June 5 should be an important update for Apple to stay viable in the laptop world.

I sure hope there's a more "permanent sounding" repair / fix in manufacturing they are doing.

I'm a bit turned off by the sound of a "shim kit" on $3k+ laptop and also have concerns about the implications longer term for the keyboard (like when AppleCare ends in 1 or 3 years depending upon individuals).

I really just want:

1. Fix keyboard somehow
2. Spec bumps
(I wish I could get a slightly smaller keyboard, a USB-A, an SD, etc, but oh well..)

The 3k$ laptop sure has some other shims inside. Maybe all the keyboards need those shims but some lazya** engineer forgot to add them in the final design and the right solution is adding them later.
TBH, I'm not a big fan of These new keyboards nor of that huge touchpad, so i'm not trying to convince anyone that the keyboards are now perfect, just sharing infos.

yes, Apple could make an awesome power laptop, if thicker - personally I like the new designs much more. I said Razor on purpose btw ;)

Seems you talk about razer without owning one. I have the blade with 1060 in it 16 gb ram
So... the pro is the dGpu for cuda or games, but you need to work with it at your desk bec it's getting v v hot.
For users i think from my point of view besides specs and portability (since we are talking about laptops),is to have an all good all around product that doesn't gets too hot

You said it in a better way than me, but yes all round is better for most than specced up for the few. It makes more business sense and Apple is a business and not here to please everyone.

So...you are really telling that the 2015 rMBP was too thick and heavy for you?

Unbilievable...then the MB must be the perfect laptop for you....

Who said it was too heavy?
Why would a Mb be perfect?

Thanks for your insightful advice......

Yup, razer is green garbage. The company is nearly criminally incompetent.

I'm currently in a tough situation.. I was without my maxed out rMBP 15" mid-2015 for months due to several Apple repairs. (got it back Yesterday) So I the meantime I ended up buying a MacBook Pro 15" 2016 with 2.9Ghz CPU upgrade and Radeon 460. (had to work!) At this point I'm considering a few options since I'm still within the return window..

1. Return the new Macbook Pro -> Refund -> Get Applecare for my 11 month 'old' 2015 model -> wait another year
2. Return the new MacBook Pro -> Sell the 2015 -> Upgrade to new model if it comes at WWDC
3. Keep the new one and maybe hate myself in three weeks

Since I had some trouble with Apple I got a really nice discount on the new MacBook Pro, I do use my computer for 4K video editing but also watch some high-res movies on it from time to time. I know Kaby Lake is just a minor update from the Skylake variant but I'm worried the 2016 model will lose lots of its value and will have a worse battery life viewing and editing 4K footage (since Kaby Lake has dedicated encode/decode for .h265 and .v9 format)

What would you guys do?

Collect the whole set!

Did the refurb prices on MacBook Pros go down recently? Just found one (2.7 GHz i7, 512 GB SSD, Radeon Pro 460) for €2,719 at the refurbed section of the Apple online store, and a 15" base model for €2,290. Those are pretty sweet deals, considering that higher end model costs €3,319 new.

I'll still wait for the update, since my guess is that the prices on new machines will go down, or at least that we'll get a 512 GB SSD at that €2,699 price point they're currently asking for the 15" base model. My 2009 MacBook Pro will have to do just a little longer - I believe in you, Intel Core 2 Duo!

By the way, does anyone think there's the chance for a bigger graphic upgrade than just to AMD's 500 series Polaris chips (which seem to be less than 10% faster)? AMD Vega is supposed to launch in June, maybe Apple gets something special a little early from AMD?

Yay, someone is in the same boat as me, go MBP 2009 Core 2 Duo! :D

I have been waiting for 3 years to update now and was never satisfied with any release. I guess I won't have any choice soon though :)
