Of course they're not the same thing, but they're both still new models. Are they not? Or do you not consider any of the MacBook's released between February 2013 and May 2015 new models either? They were just spec bumps after all.

There is no 2016 function key 15" model. The current alternative 15" function key model dates from 2015. So a redesign from 2015 era that skips the touch bar for October 2017 would updating a relatively old model. If Apple didn't mash it thinner, provisioned space for so-DIMMs, added a Type-A socket , and skipped the much higher expensive of the touch bar, they would have a solution for what many were complaining about.

Suffice to say, it is extremely unlikely Apple will refresh/update/spec bump/new model the MacBook Pro line up in both June and October this year. An update to 13" line-up in June and 15" in October (or vice-versa) is plausible but both, twice, not going to happen.

If split function key and touch bar there are 4 models to play with; two in each 13" and 15" sccreen size. So can do 15" touch bar now , 15" function key October , 13" touch bar now , 13" function key October (with maybe price cut now if drop the 2015 MBP 13" ... or price cut both if keeping 2015 model as long term legacy model like 2012 model recently was. ) .

bumping the touch bar models will push more customers into the higher touch bar price point (Gen 7 is a value add .. maybe even a battery catch up for the 13" model versus the 2016 function key's bigger battery.). The lower price point folks probably won't care in the 13" space missing Gen 7 (at least for 6 months or so) and settle for the 2015 in the 15"

I don't think Apple is going to get rid of the function key versus touch bar price gap anytime soon. Now that Retina screens has almost completely gone mainstream they will probably leverage touch bar to push the average selling price higher. That still leaves them with two parallel MBP lines which need updates.

it is a bad joke, BUT you have the premium devices like surface laptop bla bla bla, and people students love to have a nice product that have a better battery life.
the windows 10S will surpass chromeOS. A lot of people/companies will make apps for that platform instead of google play that run very strange on chromeOS

Do you remember Windows RT? Windows S will be just a another RT. But only time will prove who is right :)

ASUS just unveiled the Zenbook Pro. 1050ti, up to 32 gb of DDR4 RAM, Kaby Lake i7, 12-14 hours of battery life. 4 pounds, starts at $1299. Why the **** do I still shill out for these MBP's again?

Fair statement. I'm still holding off for the offerings by Apple and other PC makers. I took at look at the early comments about the updated specs for the ZBP and can only offer that I can't wait for the updated rMBP and Spectre lines, and that I ordered 19 Zenbook Pros for my small company last year - and returned every single one of them under a "POS" category. In my experience, ASUS hardware has been pretty much junk and their customer service is horrible (I bookmarked laptopmag's "review" for jollies earlier this year after 2+ hours on hold with their CS - http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/asus-tech-support - while I was on hold with ASUS, and concurred with the "1.0" rating…).

The "line" I use for ASUS's CS - with derision - is that "they blow chunks - slimy green and brown, hairy chunks". I need to buy about 30 Windows laptops this year, and I've scratched ASUS from my shortlist. "Cheap" is not an ultimate solution IMHO, but, of course - YMMV!

Wow thanks for that. All that stuff sounded too good to be true. Ha.

I noticed that too. What an incredible machine that Zenbook is.

its 99% we see macbook pro 15" and ipad pro 12.9" at WWDC...the delivers is from 6June. And since the 12.9" is updated we can now be sure that the 10.5" is here. So we get at least 3 hardware updates at WWDC

get real, 2 issues there, no 32 GB RAM "It can be configured with up to 16GB of DDR4-2400 RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe x4 SSD." and that battery life is around 9 hours,it can get a lot hotter then MBP because of that 1050TI,and has a lot of fingerprint magnet,it just looks ugly, matured

refresh are coming for sure for the 15" MBP and 12.9" ipad pro...but it would be very strange not to update the 12" MB and the 13" MBP

So i've heard nVidia GPUs suck a lot of electricity, and the most powerful ones can't be put in thin rMBPs

https://venturebeat.com/2017/05/29/...t-are-both-3-times-thinner-and-more-powerful/

This is what a lot of people here was waiting for perhaps? A powerful nVidia GPU re-designed and optimized to avoid extreme battery suckage.

Will it make in the next MBP?

As far as we know, there is no GTX1050 in the Max-Q line-up. The Max-Q 1060 already uses 70W, or twice the TDP of the Radeon Pro 460. With these numbers, I can't see Apple using one of these cards anytime soon.

Coffee Lake is the 8th generation successor. Intel said today in a press release, they are seeing a 30% performance boost in early testing. Those holding out might be pleasantly rewarded, but considering this will be on the same 14 NM architecture, I personally would wait until 10 NM, not to mention Apple is working on a ARM powered chip for handling power management in a future MBP.

yeah what I don't get is didn't Intel say Cannonlake (10) would be out by the end of the year?
And Coffee is coming "soon"...perhaps no suitable Cannon chips for MBP will hit till Q1/Q2

I suspect Apple is eager to spec bump because Skylake imposed an undesirable design compromise on them. Look at the low-spec MBP 13". It has a 55Wh battery and the speakers are under the speaker grills. The touchbar models on the other hand have a smaller battery and the speakers can't play out of the grills. That can't have been the design intent!

I suspect Skylake prevented Apple from using their planned internal layout but they didn't feel they could wait another year to release a new MBP. Sometimes you have to go with what you've got.

But more importantly, for the 13", the quad-core 15W chips that were rumoured in August 2016 have been confirmed as part of the lineup. If Apple choose to use these in the 13", it would be an incentive to upgrade for many.

Thats probably the most interesting part for those who prefer the size of the 13 inch MBP. The question is, will Apple even consider it? If they do, it probably will be optional not to cannibalize the 15 inch.

To be frank with you, I am confused by Intel's road map, because I always though Cannonlake was the next revision, followed by Coffee Lake. Looks like some changes were made. Even with these announcements, we probably won't see it in a new Apple computer until mid 2018.

I think they could since ultimately it would still be less powerful and whether is had the Iris graphics or not (i.e. used a LP dGPU), the graphics would also be weaker. Bit Yeah, that is an issue although personally I can't see Apple ignoring the fact that there are 15W quad-core chips.
