They might be working on making the entire keyboard a touchbar. They are on the right track with force touch, it feels exactly the same as a click. The next logical step is make all the keyboard buttons like that.

Why? To what benefit? Nobody wants to type on something thats is constantly changing and it adds cost.

They could make the new wide trackpad even wider so it can also be a keyboard. Its a keyboard with your hands in typing position and a trackpad as soon as you move your hands to use it like a trackpad. No more moving your hand over 6 inches to move the mouse.

1. if they've made the touchbar optional (especially for the beefier models) nobody would buy it. They need the user base to push it and also the apps for it (plus maybe extra profit since it is more expensive);
2. 2 fans means less space for battery. If you are referring to the nTB 13", having 2 fans will reduce the battery even more;
3. I'm not sure the chassis of the new MBPs supports slotted RAM/SSDs, it is as thin as ever. Their competition (deluxe business books) also doesn't offer these options. Even so, the trend is to move to replaceable devices (phones, tablets, laptops). An upgradable machine (such as the 2010 MBP) will have a longer life cycle and the user will not be motivated to spend money for a new one. For Apple and other companies in this business, it is more profitable to have the users update their machines with each new generation;
4. the difference between these wifi cards are minimal from a normal consumer perspective. Most users do not even have routers capable of these speeds;
5. all the MBPs have at least 2 thundebolt ports. Are you talking about the 12" Macbook?
6. it comes again to choice and needs. 128 GB are going to be more than enough for most users. My dad for example uses under 1GB actual space for whatever excels he works with. 256 GB would be wasted for him as money goes.
7. I know this is subjective but I think the new MBPs are among the quietest in their category. As for the hw support of codecs, those things cost a bunch. Apple is at the mercy of Intel, and Intel needs to pay the codec consortiums.

When are Apple going to offer custom MacBooks, like you know, the same way you do a special order pizza?

Its too bad they are forcing an expansive non wanted feature upon users. Thats the downside of committing to the apple ecosystem. You have to accept whatever they decide that you have to buy.

That would be a great step into making their users either abandon apple computers, or to carry external keyboard around with their MBP :)

You will pay extra for this and like it- once apple explains to you how much you will like it in one of those apple keynote speeches.

That reminds me of the computers that appear in the last episode of the third season of Black Mirror.

Yesterday I was watching the series finale (superb episode btw) and remembered this thread :) they are Notebooks with a flat surface with keys "drawn with light" on it.

With Apple, standard row of F keys will probably be a pricey optional upgrade on CTO's.

Hi everybody, can someone please tell me what are the latest news regarding Cannonlake when will the CPUs be available suitable for MBP 15"??
Thanks

So you're saying my 2010 MBP might still be desirable? Joking aside I upgraded it last year I think it was with 16GB ram, 1TB SSD, new battery and fan...aside from the battery that still seems pretty crappy overall the machine is holding up pretty well....Still runs pretty hot sometimes but nothing crazy. Looking at the new 15"ers though

[doublepost=1504083473][/doublepost]they still stuck on 30-40%gain in performance from the new 8th Intel cpu
[doublepost=1504083725][/doublepost]so even if the new macbooks 2018 models gain at least 30% over kaby lake...then good time to buy a new one

Asus Zen - Kaby Lake R and discrete graphics in a 13".
https://liliputing.com/2017/08/asus-unveils-zenbook-13-kaby-lake-r-4k-display.html

Apple - the competition are raising the bar!

The Geforce MX150 is even a bit faster than the Radeon Pro 450.

first, lets see how hot and how battery will be with that discrete graphics into a 13" shell . If everything goes well, then maybe Apple should put a dGPU into the next 13"

Have to admit I'm not really a gpu guy so the different mdoels mean little to me - but I did think it was interesting to see discrete graphics in a 13". Anyhow - its all upping the bar for Apple to respond to so that can only be good.

Dell announces new XPS 13 with the new 4 cores CPUs from Intel!
Good news, everybody. The competition fire should spur Apple to move as well...
Sadly,i think Apple won't give a bit of attention to this,they have their schedule,a very slow one,please don't flame me,by the way we will take what they decide or we will switch and they won't care the same, no spark just Apple as the others and i love Apple

Don't expect too much next year in the form of new Macbook Pro's. I would only expect them to have the new 8th-gen Intel Core processors which will allow for 4 cores at 15W and thats about it. Also expect them to make 256GB SSD the minimum now. And will allow at least 32GB RAM in the 15" model now.

At the Intel conference they said something about "enthusiast laptop" or "enthusiast mobile CPU", for the end of the year right?

Maybe they were referring to cannonlake 15W CPU with a GT3e? Or maybe coffee lake for 28W and up... Man, I can't believe Intel just unveiled the 8th gen and we only know the Kaby Lake refresh. No clue about three reset of the gen (coffee lake and Cannonlake)...

I have to make a decision before the back to school promo ends... Buy now and maybe sell it in a couple of years, or stuck with my 2010 MBP one more year -at the risk of not updating the lineup until 2019...-.
