Agreed. They are pricing themselves out of market.

You know at some point its a security thing. Even If I could afford a top end MBP now - I simply would not want to bring it anywhere for fear of theft.
I can’t believe the price of entry for a 15” Apple laptop of any sort is now £2,349 - could they not even have kept a 2017 model around at the £1,999 price point?? Gives me a glimmer of hope they might have a 15” MacBook in the works, though not sure I’m going to hold my breath :/

Awesome. Seems like what everyone asked for is here!

On the contrary.....

- No nTB 15";
- No magsafe;
- Still USB-C lame 100W powersupply;
- No Vega GPU / nVidia GPU. Just rebadged AMD mediocre 2016 tech;
- No SD card reader;
- no HDMI;
- no price lowering;
- DDR4 with a small increase of battery capacity....this will have a big impact in battery life (for those who care).

Still a no buy for me...

Interesting to note - Bluetooth 5.0 seems to have been added!
Great catch, thanks for the confirmation. I mean it's kinda to be expected with Bluetooth 5.0 debuting in the iPhones, Apple TVs and so on last year, but still good to have it confirmed.

Can't wait to see some reviews and performance comparisons come out of these vs the 2017/16 models. I am sorely tempted to get a 15" with 32gb RAM to replace my base spec 13" with 16gb RAM.

really was expecting the 2015 15” to be updated to the new design at the same price, not to get axed and the cost of entry to go up by another £500... not sure I’m really wanting to indulge myself on a powerhouse machine with only 256GB storage at that price...

You are never going to buy another mac if thats your wishlist. There was about a 10% chance that one of your wishes would be realised and 0% that more than one of them would.

It was nice chatting with you peeps in this thread over the past 6 months. Going to pull the trigger on a 13" Touchbar with 16GB RAM as soon as the Back to School store is back online.

- no price lowering > :( :( :( (but prices for EU still have to be published)

Some of those expectations were never gonna happen...

What do people think of buying a 13" with the e-GPU enclosure Apple advertise, instead of the 15"?

Are you sure about that? About 99% of people here on this forum were convinced that new MBPs won't ship with 32GB of RAM until Cannonlake next year (or later).
No, Apple has been working on it since last year due to the backlash, same with the keyboard. But I guess its about how you define unexpected.

Do you really think that the keyboard is only quieter and that's it? According to this article, nothing else is fixed/improved.

Yeah... I'm waiting for the Back to School sale too (as a University employee, I am also eligible). Now to decide between the 13" or the 15". Not really a power user (I have my Windows Desktop PC for gaming or extensive tasks - 8700k, 1070ti), but at the same time I really want the extra screen real estate. I have a 2013 13" MBP that I desperately want to upgrade (trackpad doesn't 'click' anymore, but it isn't caused by the battery - just crap stuck in it) and get more screen space.

Maybe I take this time to get the lower prices on the 2017 refurbs? I mean how much improved can the keyboard actually be...

No one was wanting that, move on, it’s never gonna happen. Go buy yourself a 2015 model and stop whining.

I was hoping for a bigger battery to be honest, it seems that these were just to equalise the power, rather than revert to the previous 99wh/76wh capacities we had before.

The one area I think it they definitely should have improved on was the web cam, 720p in this day and age, when FaceTime is quite a relevant part of the iOS experience, is bizzarre!

I agree, I don’t love the battery life on mine if theres one thing I can complain about. I have the 15” 2.9Ghz.

/edit: but the 8th gens are supposed to use less batt life right?

On a quite heavy Illustrator + chrome combo I get 4.5h of use. On surfing net intensively I get 6.5h. Bleh.

Thankfully I hardly have to be out without a power source for more than 4h. But, the slimness and lightness is ahmaaaazing. I love the new keyboard now too and I’m a KB snob. :)

I use a C920 webcam with mine, so I don’t feel the pain, though I agree with you. :)

Still, think I’ll sell it in September if prices are right and the new ones prove to be worth it. Here in SG we can’t tell how much the 32GB upgrade is yet.

What are the chances the MBP I ordered earlier this week will be automatically switched to the new model? Anyone had or heard of any experience like that? It’s still quoted for delivery Saturday through Monday.

To quote from The Verge:

This new third-generation keyboard wasn’t designed to solve those issues, Apple says. In fact, company representatives strenuously insisted that the keyboard issues have only affected a tiny, tiny fraction of its user base. (There’s now a four-year repair program for the keyboard in case it fails.)
