What are the chances the MBP I ordered earlier this week will be automatically switched to the new model? Anyone had or heard of any experience like that? It’s still quoted for delivery Saturday through Monday.

I've heard of that kind of thing happening but who knows. You can always return the one you've ordered (you have 14 days) and order one of the new models.

Just a lil Brexit mark up
The £ is stronger against the dollar since late 2016 when Apple adjusted prices - this is because they have added more egregious options (32GB RAM and 4TB storage) in the USD price (and ignored the exchange rate to boot)

Why do they keep pushing that useless touchbar ? Looks like someone's annoying whim at the design team rather than rational decision. Literally nobody cares and it really is useless, not just an exaggeration. All it does is keeping the price higher, what a waste.

Active power consumption is pretty much the same, on idle LPDDR3 has some advantage and that's why it's used in smartphones but because laptops are used different than smartphones and most of the power consumptions comes from CPU+GPU and screen, there shouldn't be much of a difference.
So i wonder if the DDR4 15" MBP will have the same battery like 13" MBP with LPDDR3

So, with regard to the keyboard, Apple say the following:

"an improved third-generation keyboard for quieter typing"

According to this article, however, CNET say it's just quieter and that it's not fixed in any other way. Thoughts? It seems crazy that with all the lawsuits out there they'd release a new model with the same issues. That said, it's back to school time and they don't want to miss out. I hope it's fixed as I'm getting a 13" Quad-Core. ;)

Well that's one way to push people into buying the TB model: the nTB gets no update at all and also keeps the 2017 price for another year. I guess that there will be people who know nothing about the machines who will still buy them, but trying to charge the same price for a second year is just insulting to anyone who does.

I’d guess the larger battery is probably to cancel out the small change there would otherwise be and keep the battery life static?

Did the SSD and RAM upgrade price went up? Or is it just the Canadian prices going up overall?

The 13" TB 512 16 I was considering just got much more expensive it seems...

OK, we're finally here,
A few notes- personal opinion:

POSITIVE:
  • RAM, processing, graphics, etc: finally, welcome improvements
  • TouchBar: upon reconsidering, seems to be becoming useful - curious to try it, specifically w/ AutoCAD & Pixelmator

NEUTRAL:
  • USB C charging: still can't accept it as an improvement over MagSafe, but not that important
  • Ports: Still uneasy with the 4 USB-C ports, I believe the move was premature, at least for the Pro lineup
  • Build quality: as the few last models had various issues, it's only wise to wait for the reports

NEGATIVE:
  • Price: still quite steep, but no surprise there
  • Keyboard: the most important concern - absolutely have to wait and see if actually fixed

MBP $2,600 w/o AppleCare (which is crazy given the keyboard) 512GB of storage
Dell 2,100 for the 4k 512GB model with a superior GPU, upgradeable ram, storage and easy battery replacement.
Razer 2,200, Matte FHD display (I love that its matte), 512GB of storage upgradable components and a much better GPU and great looks

Is staying within the apple ecosystem worth four hundred dollars, especially when you consider the perception of the keyboard? On one hand the difference isn't as severe as I thought it was, yet on the other hand needing AppleCare may be a requirement and that pushes the boundary of affordability.
