I wouldn't be surprised to see a nTB 13" update in 2019 though. It has now become the "cheap" Pro model. The 2015 models no longer are sold. They could keep the nTB going for a couple of years before finally killing it.

Good to see Kaby Lake remains the real-world baseline for 4K HDR support BTW.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets knocked on the head altogether if they introduce a 13” MacBook alongside iPads at an October event...

Any chance the models from 2017 are going to be selled with an improved keyboard? I just wanted to buy the cheapest 13" model without TB and a proper keyboard!

OK, so I need your opinions on what's the better choice of the following configurations:

1) 2.2ghz, upgraded 32gb RAM, upgraded 512gb SSD - $2,789
2) 2.6ghz, upgraded 32gb RAM, 512gb SSD - $2,959
3) 2.6ghz, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD - $2,599

My wife is a photographer and will use this MBP for mostly editing in Lightroom, blogging, web, email. Nothing too intense, but definitely some photoshop with the majority of work in Lightroom. I'm not sure if the 32gb RAM or the 2.6ghz processor would be overkill or not. We're currently working with an iMac and a 2011 MBP, so it's time to upgrade.

Also, the 2.6 v 2.2 models have a different graphics card, which is a consideration as well.

Appreciate anyone's opinion.
Honestly the cheapest one will do just fine, 32gb is an overkill for basic photo editing.

Yes, that's a possibility, but I don't think they'd drop the non-TB MBP immediately. It will be here at least until 2019, and perhaps would still get an update in 2019.

The one at risk of getting dropped completely so soon after a 13" MacBook release is the 13" MacBook Air.

Well I think todays release establishes that this guy is making it all up just like the rest of us.
eh? Truetone is not significant. He was spot on. New multi core chips and the T1 is the bulk of the upgrade which I think the T1 was previously mentioned or not super significant.

Too early tell, but based on the Dell 9570 and Alienware R5 scores, I'm thinking closer to 25,000 which is none too shabby for a 4lb laptop.
But those are overclockable, aren't they? Remains to be seen whether the MBP i9 will be. Plus it depends on thermals. Either way quite good for a laptop. Not too far off from the iMac Pro base model.

The price difference isn't great for the boost you get - plus in a few years time, it could become useful to have that power (and at the very least, resale value is higher).

There isn't too much early adopter risk, as Apple honour a 14 day return anyway I guess. Unless of course there is some underlying issue (e.g. like the Keyboard that we had before) which you may not notice until it's too late (hopefully not).
The issue for me is, buying it without knowing the full story with regard to the keyboard. If I wait a week or so, we should see what iFixit has to say.

He said it was happening in the fall. he didnt' say Truetone in MBP, he said display improvments in iMacs. Also anyone can guess that Truetone would make it to macs from ipads sooner or later.

I think you could possibly hope for 22-23k.

This is assuming that the Geekbench scores early June were based on the 2.2GHZ i7 scores were real, you can expect the i9 to go to around 25k for multi-core scores! Which to be honest...is pretty awesome. Can't wait for us to officially benchmark these new machines.

I feel like they didn’t upgrade it primarily for extra differentiation from the TB model, they seem to be really pushing the ‘pro’ label back towards performance oriented computers. So perhaps they will want to re-group around consumer MacBooks and performance oriented MacBook pros. With the price of entry for 15” MacBook pros now being £2,349 I hope their vision includes a 15” consumer MacBook too!

Honestly after they dropped the 2015 pro I think it’d be more surprising if they didn’t drop the air too

Could you not see a minor Fall refresh for Apple to add a Vega mobile option to the 15"?

I personally very, very much doubt anything else will change with the MacBook Pro this year. I could be wrong but I don't ever recall Apple doing a silent update and then following up with another (or an even bigger change) just a few months later. You never know, I guess.

Well, I'm glad it's finally here.

Historically, does anyone know what kind of discount we see with back to school specials? I'm wondering if it's worth ordering now or waiting another few weeks until the sale happens.

It's usually ~10% IIRC. You'll also get a pair of Beats (Solo?) headphones thrown in. I believe AppleCare is reduced by 20% as well.
