I wouldn't mind an AMD APU in a version of the MacBook Pro. Maybe this is the one for Q3 2017 with 32GB of RAM. I'm pretty sure a Thunderbolt controller can be paired with an AMD CPU.

2018 MacBook Pro will be THE One.

- 10-bit HDR 120hz display, iPad Pro has it and the OLED IPhone 8 will have it and the Macs and Mac Pros has it. Guess who gets it next.
- DDR4 it's a must have moving 4K files and programs. 32GB please
- Coffee Lake CPU 4-Core 8 Threads 30% better than Kaby look it up.
- improved Touch Bar.
- New battery design
- Fix the Giant Touch Pad

Look at this joker.

More likely than not, we'll see a coffee lake macbook pro Q4 2017 with marginal improvements. Maybe a slightly better screen and 32GB. ;)

It says COFFEE Lake, not CannonLake. Look at the roadmap. Q1 2018 - COFFEE Lake.

You did't even read the article did you? Intel says cannon lake is on track and ice lake is also far ahead in the process. The desktop CPU's stays on coffee lake.

https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/02/18/intel-corporation-delays-10-nanometer-cannon-lake.aspx

Quote Intel:
Fast-forward to the commentary at Intel's 2017 investor meeting: The company is now committing to shipping these Cannon Lake chips in the second half of 2017 with "volume in the first half of [2018]."

Shrunk down 10nm cannon lake CPU's is common late 2017/early 2018 with ice lake high performance laptop CPUs coming mid 2018+.

Ok. I will ask this differently. Show me a roadmap that has Cannonlake CPUs that can go into MBP that are slated for 2017, and early 2018. ONLY 4.5W TDP CannonLake, and 2 core 15W GT2 CPUs might come out this year, but based on previous slips of Intel roadmaps I would expect it more realistically Q1 2018.

Macbook Pro CPUs are Coffee Lake. And they will ship in volume over Q2, Q3 2018. Expect Late 2018 for CannonLake MBP chips, if not early 2019.

This is how horrible is manufacturing process on 10 nm's.

This was the whole point from the beginning. MacBook Pro CannonLake chips will not be available before 2019.

P.S. Ice Lake Taped IN. What this means is that there is quite A LOT of time before we will see even engineering samples in the wild.

Looking at the various reports and leaks from intel in June looks like the following:

- Coffeelake coming in Q4 of the year for chips suitable for MBP.
- Cannon lake wasn't supposed to be for a long time in the U line but may be moved up to 1h of 2018- however some Cannonlake chips def coming this year just not suitable for MBP.

By biggest question is what's AMD's likely next chip since the 560 was just a rebadge?

Only low-power GPU that will come with Vega are APUs.

Theoretically Apple is such big customer so they can afford paying AMD to bring semi-custom design of their Raven Ridge APUs. 4C/8T+12 CU design+ HBM2 on the package, would result in higher than GTX 1050 Ti performance packed in 35W TDP, for both CPU and GPU.

Fix it for Intel Cannonlake & 32GB LPDDR4 & AMD Vega mobile GPU (HBM2) :)

Coffeelake is not what many people are waiting for ;)

Cheers

PS. Cannonlake is also rumored to be released in 2018!
PS2. Coffeelake will still not support 32GB of LPDDR4. However, Cannonlake will!
yes but no H chips for Cannonlake for a while.

The original roadmap didn't have Cannon lake for suitable processors at all...my guess is they bring it forward to June or fall? Maybe Q2 is possible if Intel is scared enuf of AMD.

Here is my Ideal Machine.

- 10-bit HDR 120hz 17 inch display. Bezel reduction and small footprint increase for 17 inch screen option. THAT’S RIGHT I STILL MISS IT.

- A GPU from AMD (Vega?) or Nvdia that can do VR- on that 17 inch screen it would be luxurious!!

- 4.5 pounds. Much like Ipads/ Iphones can fit 17 inches in old form factor for 15.

- Magsafe returns (this has been leaked)

- Smaller trackpad? (not sure about this one but i dont like the huge trackpads i played with in store)

These all seem like such small asks! I think we are at the point with Vega and Nvidia's efforts that the next gen of mobile GPUs or even an APU will fit VR specs into the <100 TDP requirements of Apple

Will the cannon lake cpus be available next year?
CannonLake will for sure be this year- but unlikely there will be ones suitable for MBP. More likely coffee lake will be tho in October quarter
interestingly Ming Kao had an early prediction of an October MPB that would have CannonLake/ with 32gb or Coffee with 16 and several people pointed out that intel roadmaps did not support the releeae of Cannon Lake that early. But who knows maybe things have changed

I really don't know whether to buy a 2017 MBP or wait next year for a MBP with Coffee Lake. I'd really like a 13" MBP with a quad core CPU. But I need it as soon as possible and I also want it to last many years.

Here's my iDeal MacBoo Pro

#1. 120hz 10-bit HDR display with variable refresh rates like AMD Freesycn or NVIDIA Gsync
#2. 4GB DDR 4 RAM
#3. Touchscreen display with user customizable Touchbar
#4. A 4K 60 FPS HDR camera
#5. Enhanced 20ms Apple penicil support with hardwrittting recognition
#6. 4G LTE Advanced Data support
#7. Priced starting at $649

At this point on I have given up on Apple MacBooK Pros the prices are insane and the new 10.5" iPad Pro hits all the righ bullet points. And has a vastly superior display. I'm not gonna carry around a $3,000 15" brick that can't even do Proper VR Gaming for $3,000 you can build a 8 Core GTX 1080Ti dream gaming rig.

Even the 2018 MacBook Pro will likely not even Deliver Low Power DDR4 because it won't be ready.
It's sad that in mid 2017 and later Apple still can't provide a Pro laptop with DDR4 support.

Trust me the 2017 Kaby Lake is a vastly superior machine than the 2016 tbMBP was that can't play 4K HDR video or stream it or Output it.

If you're choosing between a gaming rig with 1080Ti and a MacBook Pro, then there's something wrong with you. People around the internet makes fun of MacBook Pro saying that they can build a gaming rig for half the price that can play games at 10x the fps. It's not really interesting, is it? I can buy a car for $3000 a well, it's as good of a comparison as yours.

As for the price, yes it's ridiculous but gaming was never Apples intention. I wonder when people are gonna get that through their head.

If you need it now, you should get it. The truth is, we don't know when Apple will update MBP next. So no point of waiting. It could be 6 months or it could be a year. And 2017 MBP will last for a very long time.

My 2012 MBP is outdated and slow compared to the new ones. (2017 is about 35% to 45% faster I believe) But it still does everything I need to do.

So in summary, if you need it now, buy it now.

Not to mention we have no idea if Intel will deliver on time...they have a history of delays, and starting a wait for an unannounced product just after Apple has released new products is insane.

If you really need a quad core then go for the 15"...I am still undecided whether to go for the 13" or 15", I don't NEED the power of the 15", just the screen size...but I need it as mobile as possible :D

Define "need". Basically, wait until you have absolutely no choice anymore.

THERE WE GO!
All aboard the Waiting train!
Chooo choooo!
Who's with me?!
@navaira @Dydegu @ThisBougieLife @Uni Grad @Oppenheim and all the other lost souls of the Waiting crew...

/seriously though, despite enjoying my Skylake MBP, I'm really curious about the next MacBook Pro upgrade, rumored by Ming Chi Kuo, expected in october/november.
I believe we'll see another 2017 MBP, before the 2018.

I was like WHAT? You were on the Skylake thread now you just jumped on the Coffee/Canon 2018 thread? I am like he's never gonna get one, just keep pushing things back, then I noticed you got the 2016/Skylake! ;)

What about you @Dydegu? I ended getting the 2015 during the Skylake days, and am loving things! Now I am chillin in the 2018 thread, looking at the 2017 or the waiting for 2018.

My 2011 burnt up the video card in Janurary and "Wind Tunnelling" is annoying... So I think I'll go for 2017/2018...

And he's right! But the way things are shaking up and with the fallout retribution of the Skylake thread, I would say just analyze the road map and expect Apple to DROP IN CPUs every chance they get, and expect spec bumps for every update as long as the socket fits and/or plays nicely. Right?

But they are making things where they don't care if people whine at every interation now if they release a spec bump, people complained they weren't realeasing enough so...

My only question is how many BaseModelVer+SpecBumpsVer = ?? are we going to get, 3-4? 4-5? Probably this model will end at 4th Generation? But yeah anazlyze the road map I suppose...

My only thing is I gotta have 2 working machines, in case of emergency...
