I might be belong to a niche category since I used to carry around a 17 inch 9.5 lbs (4.3 kg) laptop along with notebooks and other stuff back in my university day so I don't understand while people keep bitching about 4.5 lbs vs 4 lbs. And I wan't big either. At that time I was 5'9 at 121 lbs with a thin small frame.
To me anything under 6 lbs is portable enough for daily carry.
i'm 5'0" so half a pound on top of textbooks makes a Big difference

So apple saved you 0.1mm thickness by making the keyboard fragile but you have to carry around a 20cm can?

No you have it wrong.
Apple saved me 0.1mm of thickness so I have to come 4 times a year to apple store to replace my keyboard.
Apple saved me 0.1mm of thickness so I can carry 1 inch by 12 inches 2nd bag with adapters.
Apple saved me 0.1mm of thickness so the processor runs slower because of the heat.
Yeah...

I just invented Yet Antother Random Theory (YART (tm)).

It's highly unlikely that Apple will launch the iMac Pro without some sort of communication. Maybe even a small event for pros. They've also promised more info about a new pro machine and pro screens at a later date. How about they use that opportunity to clarify the future pro strategy, also for the laptops? If so, we'll know more in december.

There won’t be another event this year, Apple confirmed that.

I was waiting for the 2018, but I bought the 2017 while I wait. I think its best until they finally make the 10nm die, with more cores, AMD iGPU, and give it a revision or two before I buy again. That. will probably be closer to 2019/2020. I think that first 10nm jump will be a doozy, and I'm very sure it will have issues that will have to be ironed out in a 1-2 year time period.

i have for couple a days now, the surface book 2 (god even after 2 years microsoft cant make a product overall ok) and i want that 2018 macbook pro now plzz
I hope a March event will happen to introduce that third iPhone X colour along side the updated 12" Macbook and 13" and 15" MBP with updated internals and maybe even better keyboard,i love the 2017 more than that 2016..but i hope Apple will twisted a little to be more reliable

Realistically what are people expecting the MacBook Pro 2018 to have over the 2017? I don’t see Apple doing a redesign so will it be just a spec bump?

That seems the most likely, yes. Unless Apple comes up with a way to screw customers even more. ;)

I had a play with a MacBook Pro yesterday (in the Apple store while I was waiting to pick up a Apple TV) I’ve been tempted to buy one and finally upgrade from my 2011 MacBook Pro but I keep going back and forth between the 12” MacBook or the MacBook Pro. I wonder if I should just wait now until 2018 for the spec bump.

I have had the opportunity in the past to play around with a MacBook Pro that a friend owns (2016 version) the design is really nice and the screen looks great (compared to my 2011 MacBook Pro). But as I’ve said I do find myself going back and forth between that and the 12” MacBook.

I expect :

- Tweaked keyboard to improve reliability
- Processor and graphics incremental updates
- Drop in price
- Fewer bugs
- Bigger battery

I'd like:

- Smaller trackpad OR add compatibility with the apple pencil with current trackpad size
- Face ID
- Revamp MacOS, it feels a little bit old
- Redesign the laptop to be thicker, on par with 2013/2015 model
- Reduce the bezels arround the screen.

I'd like
- inability to open with one hand
- thicker chassis do decrease heat output
- bigger battery

Proof the MacBook Pro 15" needs, and has needed for years: 32GB or more !!!!!

I'm currently using a MBP 2010 and looking to make a purchase on a fully upgraded MBP. But im wondering if it is better to wait for the 2018 since its basically 3 months away. Should i spend the 4100$ now or get the base model Imac pro for 4999 or wait for the 2018 mbp and get that one fully upgraded? im using this strictly for 4k editing on fcp and adobe premiere pro cc. Also a lot of photo editing with photoshop and lightroom. My 2010 is way to slow rendering video and trying to preview even 1080p sucks as well.

It‘s more like five to eight months away, not three. Intel probably won‘t ship the necessary chips sooner.

The iMac Pro would be faster with a bigger screen, obviously. If you don‘t need the mobility, that would be the better choice. Or even a lowely old 5k iMac - still much more powerful than a MBP. If you need the mobility, only you can decide if up to 40% more power is worth a six month wait.

No not thicker. Thin is good.

CPU's/ tech gets faster and smaller and smaller anyway.

What are the chances of Apple bringing back magsafe?
I don't see that happening, just from the perspective of why introducing a port, that is superfluous, that is the USB-c does everything the magsafe does but more. Yeah magsafe is better in protecting your computer but USB-C has the charging capability covered.

True, although I wonder if they can keep it as USB-C, and have a breakable magnet hold or otherwise somewhere in middle of the cord for the charger, to practically emulate the pro's of magsafe (i.e. the cable breaks in the middle of the cord when pulled, protecting your MacBook).

I think its all about cost to them. Magsafe was probably expensive to make and meant less profit. Getting rid of it = more profit. This seems to be their motivation for everything in the last few years.

The sad part is even the best from competing brands are still pretty poor - and I mean just on a hardware level, not in software where the versatility of having OS X furthers the gap. Even their websites are usually horrendous.

It surprises me that no one else really tries to compete in the same market as Apple despite how profitable they are, allowing Apple to push their prices up to ridiculous levels. I’m sick of Apple’s gouging but every time I look at the competition I’m even more sickened.
