I also do not understand why people gave negative? This is a just a product same as anything else sold at Walmart

Yeah but how can Apple even think about selling their 100% American made products to a company that sells alot of Chinese merchandise.

Are you serious?

Walmart? Has it come to this Apple? Walmart? I'm not saying Walmart is full of people who can't afford iPad (without taking on 30% credit from a fully legal and government subsidized loan shark), but if your looking for any you can try there. Sorry.

I don't get some of you posters, I bought an ipod last year when I was in the states from a Walmart for my daughter while we were traveling, what's the difference? why so judgmental?

BTW, those elite, superior beings on here who are complaining about the iPad coming to Wal-Mart, you guys are some seriously disturbed folk. I hope that the next time you're at your equally elite Starbucks, that $7 cup of hot, steaming coffee accidentally spills all over your chests and Macbooks. :D

Yeah the disturbing ones are not the people who go to wal-mart, they are the people who take pictures of people at wal-mart and/or look at pictures of people who go to wal-mart. Those are the creeps and weirdos.

Must arrive by date in US distribution centers is October 11. Hand delivered to the trailers by managers and sealed. Should see them on the shelves by 10/13.

What's wrong with buying bulk? I want me free Baby Grand Piano.

Otherwise it works wonders for non-perishable food.
Walmart doesn't sell bulk, that's the Sams's Club division. That is a far more tolerable store. But...

Possibly because Walmart has destroyed thousands of businesses in small towns across America?
Possibly because they have treated their employees as chattel, something modern civilizations frown on.
Possibly because that "green" guy earlier in this thread may have been a moron, but there was a ring of truth about the way people behave in this country. And that certainly applies to customers at Walmart, far too often.
This is basically a documentary.

But hey, it's the American dream, right? We should all be happy for the Waltons. They rise via the destruction of others. Forbes list for 2010 includes:
4. Christy $24b net worth as of Sept 2010
7. Jim $20.1
8. Alice $20
9. Sam II ("Rob") $19.7
98. Ann $3.2
136. Nancy $2.6

Total $89.6....Sammy's legacy still beats out ol' Gates, and (most years) anyone else around the world. Basically been the richest since 1982, riding on the back of killing small towns, workers, etc.

But hey, I'm probably just an elitist pig because I don't shop there, anymore. I tried it again to save a little cash couple years back, just couldn't live with myself. I don't give a flying **** where Apple chooses to sell their products. The point about Walmart is I won't go there because of the company being the dregs of society.

I don't like the idea of walmart, Apple make premium products. Walmart sells third category products. Isn't that going to change the way people look at Apple products in the long run?

Hilarious. Have you ever been to a Walmart? Walmart sells Sony TVs and Blu-Ray players, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii consoles, HP printers, Canon & Nikon cameras... Hell, they sell the iPhone and have sold iPods for years. The iPad will fit right in... and sell by the thousands.

Apple users tend to think of themselves as an "elite" because they can afford Apple tax. The fact that their "stuff" is now being sold in cheap shops is an affront to some. The brand can not be considered to be a premium one if it is sold in WalMart.

Apple does not present their products quite the way you think they do. Ever been inside a Macy's store or an Airport? They have Apple vending machines that you can buy iPods and accessories from, yes a vending machine, the same kind that you can buy a candy bar or a soda from. Apple wants their products to sell, period.

Nice collection of ignorance you got there.

Wal-Mart put businesses out of business that were inefficient and ineffective at providing the consumer the best value for goods.

They offer a service to people and provide a level of affordability that did not exist before they entrenched themselves across the country.

We see what happens to businesses that are forced to treat unqualified workers as highly paid and benefited workers, look at the auto industry in this country. People who work at wal-mart make wage and earn benefits in line with the jobs they perform.

People like to blame the fallout from poorly run and managed businesses on wal-mart. From the local retailers who got put out of business because they offered no value and higher prices to consumers, to manufacturers like rubber-maid who idiotically had all their business with Wal-Mart and then could not supply them with what they needed.

I don't know of a single case of Wal-Mart's existence negatively impacting a business that was not very poorly run in the first place.

The iPod and iPhone have been prominently featured in Wal-Mart for years now. These products are so ubiquitous it really seams silly that it bothers people where they are sold.

OMG walmart selling the ipad.

Let's see, if every walmart in the usa sold them that would increase the locations someone can walk in to buy one by over 5000.
BTW there are less than 250 apple stores.
increasing you supply chain by 5000+ outlets, that is a horrible decision.
So will this move devalue the ipad, like it did to the iphone?

Devalued the iPhone? Surely you jest ... er, troll.

That kind of snobbery almost destroyed Levi Strauss. They refused to let Walmart carry their jeans and their business fell off a cliff.

Today, that episode is a classic business school case study.

Go where your customers are. The iPad is a consumer electronics gadget. Lots of people buy lots of consumer electronics at Walmart.

Most of the people complaining about selling iPads at Walmart either don't have a Walmart near enough to shop there OR they shop at Walmart often.
That reminds me, I need to check Walmart for their price for the dogs' flea treatment.

Levi's price has done them in with me. My pair of Levis in 1961 for $4 was reasonable. Today it's ridiculously inflated and probably not made in the USA.

LoL...I think it's hilarious that all these insecure clowns will now have to live knowing that the uber trendy iPad they're walking around with can also be bought by any patron of Wal-Mart. Good for Apple Inc. They're in it to make money and push their brand to the masses, not to cater to the few stuck-up imbeciles out there.

Yea because no one could order it online or go to Best Buy before it came to Crap-Mart. GASP wait.....THEY COULD!

Snort. I've traveled to places still too small for a wal-mart. I find it very amusing that people actually pine for those businesses that stock the same mass market stuff at high prices and contribute next to nothing to the local economy because they employ few others than the family, complete with zero benefits to the few employed. Cry me a river. Of course, I shop at the original big box store, Meijer, so I'm probably part of the problem. :p

It's bad enough that this is a front page MR story but to have 2 updates already is silly.

We going to get updates when they get stocked in each of the 5,000 aforementioned stores?

Ok, we get it. ipad in Walmart. No more please.

Hey, bought my iPad early on, was on the waiting list at my local Apple store. Would have bought it at WalMart if it were available, and would not be enjoying it any less. Maybe WalMart could throw in a weight loss app for free since they are selling it for standard pricing.

If I made a weight-loss app, it would be a white screen with text saying, "Eat sensible portions!" and have a picture of a really skinny guy wearing oversized trousers.

Over 6 months since the iPad launch, and I still can't find a camera connection kit anywhere. Best Buy never has them, neither does the Apple Store when I'm home in KC. With there being 5 Walmarts (!) here in this podunk town that I attend college, I'm hoping that I can at least snatch up one kit. I guess I could always order it online, but meh. I don't need it THAT bad, but it would be convenient and I always check when I'm at a store.

Strange...I was at our Best Buy the other day and I easily saw 20 of them on the shelves...

Surely if MR is going to start making stories like this "news", they could at least put it in a new section called "Page 3".

Not sure why this is news at all, let alone something that needs spy shots of SKUs on a monitor...

If then

If the numbers say this demographic is buying and not returning then Walmart could be the great equalizer like the Net itself.
