The state of Washington (USA) has to pay out millions of dollars a year for Wallmart employees that don't make enough and need food stamp assistance. Once this stops I will THINK about buying things from them. Until then, no way. Pay better, livable wages first.

I'm guessing WalMart pays many full and part-time employees minimum wage, just like gobs of other businesses all over WA and the U.S. Last I heard, WalMart wasn't forcing people to take low paying/low skill jobs at gunpoint.

Man talk about people who don't know what they are doing. Never met anyone who was not completely stupid who worked at a radio shack. Their managers are the worst. It is like they promote their worst employees to manager.

I agree, I only buy Apple products from the Apple store.
Apple should maybe reconsider letting Walmart sell Their products. I associate Walmart with cheap products and low income shoppers, that doesn't mesh with Apples high class image.

Nothing shows class better than 'Bought from Wal-Mart'.

Actually, it's iWalMart.

why dont we add in convenient stores and drug stores

This is similar to selling new Mercedes Benz in a used car lot, in Compton.

I refuse to shop at wal-mart

So what would you people say to a millionaire who chose to buy his new iPhone 4 at WalMart? You're buying the same product everywhere.

As many times as I'll say this, it seems like the average MacRumours user is age 30+, pompous, and self absorbed/ego maniacal; stemming from the fact that they are bitter about being an bachelor and creating pointless "art" on their fancy Apple computers.

I don't think Apple should sell product at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart mostly sells products made by developing-nation laborers working under near-slave conditions for pitiful wages. Apple should not associate with companies that engage in such inhumane practices.

Oh, wait a minute...

Too funny. Epic win.:)

Don't forget that many of us also drive German premium! :) I'm glad to fit the stereotype!

Now lets go to other carriers

Great, now lets make the Iphone 4 available on all US carriers. I get a strong signal in my building but no At&T signal and very week Verizon signal. So as soon as the Iphone comes to T-Mobile I'll be one of the first in line to get it!

10% unemployment in the US. You think everyone should do the same and add to the number.

If they don't shop at Wal-Mart, they must go somewhere where they pay the workforce better. Refusing to go to Wal-Mart is not a tragedy for the unemployment figures. In fact, if you don't go to Wal-Mart, you probably go to somewhere else where in proportion, more of the revenue is going to wages.

Walmart doesn't secure their parking lots. That would eat into their profit margins. I'll be getting mine from either BB or the AT&T store.

LOL. That's capitalism for ya.

since my nearest apple store is much closer than my nearest wallmart, i think ill go to apple. actually ill probably just order online...

I use to boycott Walmart until I realized that all grocery stores pretty much treat all of their workers the same. They got to keep the prices low so you come in and keep buying. Walmart has proliferated rural America better than anyone. In the middle of nowhere, you will get a small town that depends on that Walmart. Be it good or bad, it is what has happened. By partnering with Walmart, they just got the iPhone into the hands of many customers that it wouldn't have normally simply because of location.

It's beyond me why anyone bothers to go to a brick and mortar store to buy the iPhone at all. I could sort of understand buying it at an Apple store because you get to stand in line with llke-minded crazies. But WalMart?

Me, I'm going to pre-order at the Apple Store online on Tuesday. As is customary with Apple, it will surely be delivered on release day, Thursday, June 24. I can sit at home in comfort and peace while I wait for the UPS or FedEx driver to arrive. Or, I can entertain myself while I wait by logging onto this forum and read all of the messages of frustration from folks that went to WalMart, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc., only to find they were already sold out or didn't get as many as they expected.... etc... etc.. etc.

I'll be sure to have a batch of popcorn ready for the fun!

Or perhaps your state should set a higher minimum wage. How much do you expect them to make? Unskilled labor makes unskilled money, therefore go to college. Welcome to America. No one is forced to work at walmart, that would be slavery which has been illegal is this country for some time now. I don't see anyone complaining that mcdonalds pays minimum wage, or any other place for that matter.

McDonald's doesn't move into a community, undercut all of the existing businesses by selling products at a loss UNTIL those existing businesses go out of business (taking the good, middle-income jobs with them), and then jacking the prices up when they have "control" of the town. McDonald's doesn't negotiate a deal with a town's leaders for tax subsidies over, say, 5 years, then want to renegotiate the deal in 5 years and, when town leaders refuse (because they can't afford it because so many other business are closed and not paying taxes), close the store down and reopen a new one just outside city limits.

WalMart is bad for America! PERIOD!

It's great to see things aren't confined to just AT&T and Apple... Should reduce some of the queue.... as long as my pre-order goes through on June 15th, I'll be a happy camper.

And what about people who depend on their local walmart to buy food for their family at affordable prices? I hate to sound like a republican, but walmart IS america. its capitalism at its best. furthermore, everyone has a choice. no one HAS to shop at walmart, you realize there are many national grocery store chains. and would you care to tell me what "good, middle income jobs" you speak of? stores dont pay much, period. maybe if you work at a small book store you will make $10 an hour instead of $7.50 (minimum wage in my state, nj). but thats not what i consider a middle income job.

I assume you've pre-ordered through Apple's site in the past. If so, how's it handled? Does the website open up for pre-orders midnight PST and then its a first-come first-served model?

Not trying to be mean to the wireless employees because it's not even their fault. But, Wal-Mart doesn't even hardly train their employees for the department they are going to work in (trust me, I work there). I was talking with the girl in wireless just the other day and she had NO CLUE there was even a new iPhone coming out. I'm going to ask her when I get off my lunch if they are doing pre-orders, but I doubt she'll know. I may just go ahead and pre-order online as planned.

Look, I watched it happen to my wife's home town in the midwest. WalMart came in with a small store and sold below their cost (which is illegal, BTW), undercutting all of the family-owned stores in the downtown area. Nice, decent department stores and hardware stores that had been the backbone of the downtown area for dozens and dozens of years. Stores where people had worked entire careers or even generations of careers. Then, once WalMart got its foothold, they built a bigger store with more square footage and started putting even more small businesses out of business. Now those people that were making several dollars per hour above the minimum wage (plus benefits in many cases) were forced to seek new employment once their store closed. Some of them ended up at WalMart, without benefits, and living off of the taxpayer via welfare and taxpayer funded health care.

Too many of you think you are saving $1 when you go into a WalMart. You're not. You're just paying for it somewhere else.

Well maybe if the workers at walmart would learn not to procreate if they cant afford another mouth to feed. Nothing ticks me off more than people having babies that cant afford them, then the rest of us taxpayers have to foot the bill.

What time do preorders start?

I know that the preording begins on June 15th. At what time will the Apple website start accepting preorders? Like 12:01am or 7:00am or ????

I'd like to get online and get my order in as soon as possible. Can't wait to finally ditch my old trusty 2G iphone. Glad I held off on getting the 3Gs.
