What is the point of wireless charging? To save a couple of seconds that it would otherwise take to plug in a wire? Taking that couple of seconds to plug in a wire will save several minutes or even hours because wired charging charges the phone much faster than wireless charging.

True, but in car it is convenient is some scenarios. For example, I have a Belkin wireless charger that doubles as a vent mount so all I have to do is hold it the mount and it is visible for directions and charging. Easy to take out as well. Should I not want to charge because the device gets hot on longer drives, I simply unplug the USB-C wire from the device or charger.

Ah, first world problems.

not coincidental. I had this happen to two separate iPhone 15 Pros in the first week after launch. both had issues after using the wireless charging pad in a 2024 BMW X5 M60i.
Are you getting "Hold near reader" with the cards you already have added and the terminal does not react? Or does Apple Pay just spit out an error and your cards disappear?

From Apple’s perspective it solves several problems.

When they took away the headphone jack, now the only way to listen to wired audio and charge at the same time is MagSafe.

When they feel like they can get away with it, they will remove the USB-C port and wireless will be the only way to charge or get data.

For users? Basically the single advantage wireless ever has. No wire. Wired everything is better than wireless anything in terms of reliability, price, performance, etc etc etc. Just that pesky wire.

No issues for me… but same as the overheating thread, my question would be who has the 80% charge turned on? I had that on since day one and have not had heat issues at all. And the fact it’s only available on the 15 makes me think that maybe the new battery packaging is actually to blame… more heat when charging, more heat when discharging. If so could be a battery recall instead of a full on design issue.

Is this also affecting Android phones being charged on the BMW charger or just Apple?

I still can't bring myself to use wireless charging. It's so slow and unreliable.
If Apple removed the cable on every iPhone to enforce wireless only for everybody, we'd probably be back to the Stone Age before long.

I never got a wireless charger, as I know BWM has terrible ones. I ordered an aftermarket one instead. Not getting the 15, but don't suppose I would have this issue...

Which is of course illegal in many countries whilst driving.
Not for passengers and only while driving for the driver. Same idea for the non-car wireless chargers- it’s cool but really, not necessary and actually limits your use of the device in order to charge.

Well, wouldn't it have happened to the previous phone models then?..

We're looking at either different chip positioning or poorer heat conductivity.
This problem will realistically be solved by throttling down the wireless charging. As if it wasn't slow enough.
