Only value of wireless charging is not having to plug a cable. You have to put the phone to a standard place anyways.

So, instead of wireless charging they should make the place like a dock where we can easily insert the phone and it connects the usb-c plug to the phone. With this:

- usability high
- problem solved
- charging speed blazing fast
- easy to upgrade
- and no risks of frying some nfc chip or whatever.
I have often wondered why a MagSafe-like (mac version) of charging was never introduced to the iphone or iPad (especially after they introduced the magnetic connecter on the iPad). Seems like a better solution than induction charging.

Wonderful. Now I have to worry about my iX breaking my 15PM. The 15 really feels phoned in. First time I have felt this way and I have owned every phone Apple has made! Step it it up Apple, this isn’t the experience I paid for!
Easy solution for the iX, there are 3D printed MagSafe mounts for the center console phone slot. I modified the edges on mine to give it more room for the camera bump in landscape mode.

The number of issues must leave Apple feeling something like Windows PC makers in the early days. The devices have to interact and 'just work' with so many other devices, including 3rd party products. It would seem that there would need to be an industry standard ensuring that USB and fast charging setups work in a similar way and do not cause issues. Perhaps someone will say this already exists - in which case it isn't working!
I think the actual problem is that Apple does NOT feel anything.

Waiting for Apple spokesperson to reply with "Next software update will have a fix that" 😂
Or you must be driving your car east and west, in order for charging to work correctly you can only drive north and south. So the problem is that your are either driving the wrong direction or maybe driving too slow. After all a BMW is supposed to be a fast car and Apple probably designed for that.

What is the point of wireless charging? To save a couple of seconds that it would otherwise take to plug in a wire? Taking that couple of seconds to plug in a wire will save several minutes or even hours because wired charging charges the phone much faster than wireless charging.
Aaah, well yes!! but!! This is just so bloody convenient:

being able to get rid of 3 different chargers and cables, and the quality of life that is (yes, sounds like a joke) taking the things just like that without unplugging anything is just too good. Plus you can also make it standby mode look real neat:

I never use wireless charging except for my Apple Watch... and I think the reason it doesn't get hot is because the charge rate for my series 4 is so low... it doesnt fast charge.

Wired charging is more energy efficient and doesn't cook your phone in the process.

Exactly I love it don’t even have to think about it.

Mine have had them for years now. I’ve had an i4 M50, M135i, M140i, 320D and a 320i over the last 12 years. All have had wireless charging.
Nice. I got a Merc this summer after yeaaars of bimmers. M140i, G20 X3, F25 X3 and F30. Most recent BMW I test drove was the i7. Drivetrain and suspension tuning are utterly sublime. Might be keen on in 3 years if the facelift tidies up the front end to perhaps resemble the Dee concept.

The USB-C connector is trash and breaks easily. I’ve had to replace numerous MacBook motherboards or daughtercards (Apple charges $800 for motherboards and about $50 for daughtercards depending on model) because all four USB-C ports eventually failed, often with the cable unable to stay attached due to looseness. Even my iPad Pro’s USB-C port is slowly failing and I replaced my wife’s iPad because its port was failing badly to the point where it wouldn’t charge anymore. USB-C is just a terrible connector putting the fragile male connector in the port instead of in the cable where it belongs. For my iPad I will only charge through the keyboard and not the iPad’s port since it’s a lot cheaper to replace the keyboard. For myself, I take excellent care of my hardware to the point where it’ll look brand new after years, yet the ports still fail.

I only charge wirelessly if it’s possible though I have to use a cable for my CarPlay (those wireless things work, but have issues such as huge latency and enormous boot up times). Too many insertions and removals to a USB-port ruins it. I have ample evidence of that in my household. That’s why you use wireless charging.

I’ve always wanted to test drive a BMW. They look so fancy and yet so minimal. There’s no way in hell I’d ever be able to afford one, though.

On-topic: I’m glad I chose to sit out upgrading my phone this year. I have no doubt everyone involved will get fixes rolled out soon, but all the negative headlines are depressing as a consumer.

I still can't bring myself to use wireless charging. It's so slow and unreliable.
If Apple removed the cable on every iPhone to enforce wireless only for everybody, we'd probably be back to the Stone Age before long.

MagSafe actually works well and is very reliable. Since it magnetically locks the phone in place, it's more or less guaranteed to get an efficient power transfer. I got a Nomad MagSafe stand last week, and it's excellent. Gives me the iOS17 standby display, too, which works well.
