People just like to be angry for some reason. I'm a software developer so to me this news is nothing. Bugs happen, you can test constantly and never find something until it gets in the hands of consumers, it's just how tech is. Tech is insanely complex.

I'm just happy they found it fast and made a fix.

Agreed 100%.

On a side note, I find it hilarious how people will downvote or LOL or thumbs-down a post they disagree with and yet never actually address the post. LOL

So I guess that means there are no issues restoring from a backup on a phone that's on 17.0 or 17.0.1 to the new one on 17.0.2??
When restoring a backup, the backup version has to be the same or earlier than the iOS version you’re restoring to.

That’s how I remember it working, but others please correct me if there have been changes in the past years!

You have done nothing but complain and moan about this. When in reality, its a non issue as phone will prompt you to upgrade before transferring the data from one phone to another.

I get it, complaining/moaning is "wisdom sharing". Got it. And BTW, I apologize for the thumbs down; I didn't realize you were so sensitive about what a random message board person thinks of an opinion you shared.

Moving along, have a good one Expos.

TBH, I don't think (and I could be completely wrong here - if so, flame away, I can handle it LOL) it's a sensitivity thing. It's just a communication thing.

For example, if I want LOL or thumbs up emojis or the like, I can say literally *anything* on FB and someone will be along shortly to disagree with or laugh at me. ;) I think all others are saying is that we like to know WHY others disagree because unlike FB, many of us are here to discuss and the like - even if we known darn well people will never agree with us. It's one of the reasons I like this site - even the disagreements are pretty civil. :)

So when I pickup my phone tomorrow, and this time I'm trading in my old phone, I have to log out of iCloud and the App Store on my old phone, boot up the new phone, install the new iOS, then transfer esim, then setup from iCloud backup, and hand over my old phone! Oh how the store and the queues will love this.

So you have no idea how much of a freakout people would have if Apple pushed the ship date of their new phone to address a minor bug that is already fixed.

This. I'm not a developer (IT guy primarily dealing with SQL, MECM, servers, etc.), but I've been around long enough to see both zero-day forced/necessary updates and hardware/software issues delaying the release of a product. The former is annoying at worst, but the latter absolutely enrages the living sh*t out of people. Apple are aware of this.

I highly suspect that once they were committed to releasing the product, a day or two later some guy ran up and said "Hey guys look at this...we gotta resolve this" and thus, iOS 17.0.2.

Overall, I don’t think this is the worst thing to happen. It might be a small inconvenience, but fortunately there is a fix out.

But I think what we can all collectively agree that Apple, especially a company of its size that has the experience and resources to do so, should be more thorough in their software testing.

I understand software development is hard and complex, but as paying consumers we shouldn’t have to think about this angle.

Good point.

For me, I have little time/tolerance for constant complainers. Go look at his posts in this thread, all negative about this non situation.

Its like that employee who goes into his leaders office to complain about everything in the office; that leader dreads when that employee comes to their office.

Enjoy your weekend and phone, Kung!

Gotta admit, I haven't done this in a while...

How does one transfer all of your photos, imessages etc. but starts fresh with apps?
When it asked me to restore from iCloud or iTunes, I chose not to. All of my text message, contacts, photos, etc. are downloading. I’ll add my apps individually.

Ah, good point, you might be right and I might be thinking of this backwards.

What’s the benefit of direct device to device restore? Does it save your app logins? I haven’t transferred phones in a while so I don’t remember lol.

Has anyone tried restoring their Pro/ProMax from a Finder back up on their Mac? I have a USB 3.1 gen 2 cable, capable of 10gbps that I will plug into the front of my Mac studio. Wondering if it actually transfers faster than the typical USB 2.0 speed.

You too :)

I *kinda* get the point, I suppose. I mean, sure, day 0 releases weren't a thing years ago.

With that said, however, 99% of the content and capability of our phones weren't a thing years ago either; they're far more complex than they used to be. The fact that we're ONLY dealing with a day-0 minor update is great, IMHO.

If I'm doing a restore (plugged into my Mac) from a 17.0.1 iPhone 13 pro, I suppose I could choose not to update the new 15 pro and keep it at 17.0.1 until after I restore?

Anyone tried that yet?

Thanks!

Agreed, this is a minor, non issue.
