"Differential privacy" - Apple's OSs look more and more like the M$ Windows 10 Spyware. You can't do anything without the "cloud". Most of the features scream user data manipulation. In every keynote, they insist they care about the privacy, yet, in every keynote, they go in the other direction one small step at the time.

Why can't we have devices interaction without the iCloud? Even a simple file transfer though AirDrop requires a contact list validation (which probably does a cross-check with the other device through iCloud), you can't do a manual device validation. We're in 2016 and instead of having standardization and openness, I can't even send or receive one file to/from a non-Apple device. But I really need Siri to search through my computer to tell me what I like, and I really really need iCloud drive to store my data, because Apple is still selling 16GB phones with 16GB 100€ premium upgrades, instead of having 128GB phones as a standard, and 4GiB RAM, 128GB SSD Macbook Airs instead of 16GiB RAM, 256GB SSD MBAs as a standard.

Why would I want to send HomeKit commands from far away though iCloud, and not connect directly to my home through a secure protocol forwarded through my router? Just because Apple didn't release anything about any hacking activity, it doesn't mean my data is 100% safe. It would be an eye opener for most of the people if they'd see on the news how some crackers opened the doors and lights to all owners of HomeKit-enabled homes.

I'm not saying everything in these keynotes are bad, there are some things that really enable better usability for watches, TVs and iOS devices, but there are some things that definitely could have been made better when it comes to privacy and connectivity - and the problem is I don't see those things change anytime soon.

Seems like there are people who like to pretend like nothing actually happened.

Was there anything that WOWed you in that presentation? I can't think of a single thing that excited me. I'm glad they'll be speeding up the Watch and optimizing storage, bringing Siri to Mac, etc. but these things are barely evolutionary, forget revolutionary, and more like "why has it taken you so long?"

They literally spent 15 minutes of the keynote on messages! Who give a flying F? All of it seemed extremely frivolous given recent world events. I think I could go without hearing "change the world" ever again for the rest of my life. Such a platitude is empty and meaningless, especially when it comes to Apple Inc.

BTW wasn't it awesome how they graciously provided us with a free Swift coding app so they can leverage schools to create a new generation of developers for Apple? It warms my heart. A cynic would at least be happy with the stock price, but wait, it's down $1.49 after that barnburner "keynote".

so this time totally boring ? and all these people there are paying to watch and listen this ? :apple: is awesome money-making machine. they make money even from terribly boring stuff

yeah, I know. everything is subjective

Can't watch that video right now, but is it seven minutes of people saying "emoji"?

When they announced macOS, I though they would mix the bag a bit with the UI. It is basically just El Captain with a rename and SIRI added.

I wasn't expecting to be "WOWed". That said, whether I or anyone was or wasn't, doesn't really change that there were more than just a few minor things presented that a few people try to make it look like was actually the case.

Not like there were other things like PiP and tabs across any and all apps and various other things. Just because the UI doesn't get redesigned or various features aren't of interest to some, doesn't mean that there aren't more changes and more features there.

It's about that as much as every post in this thread simply saying "emoji".

For people who run a business using Mac hardware nothing did happen. Our employees don't have iPads, nor do they log in to the company machines using their iCloud accounts, nor do I want them going home and finding all the company documents on their desktops.
So because something wasn't of interest to some people that means nothing happened?

Unfortunately I agree. I was a very loyal customer simply because of Apple excel in design and innovation. Not so much anymore. And you sum it up very well in "At this point I just don't care anymore".

It's not that they don't do anything. But they are milking the cow too much and you wonder what all those people with all that money is doing to innovate? A car?

Sad.

Underwhelming. Some nice things.... At this point I just don't care anymore. Sure something will come, probably something nice, but I simply don't trust/like Apple anymore. It will be expensive and probably somehow gimped. Apple today is arrogant, self-absorbed, lazy, overpriced. Dishonest (selling years old stuff at same ultra high prices, claiming it's "the best we can make"). Their messiah-like statements about all they do and care is to better everyones lives are womit inducing at this point.

PS - I promise there will be less rants/negativity from me in this forum. Simply don't want to waste any more energy caring about this lame watch band seller.

For them, yes. Nothing happened for them. That's why I purposely started my sentence with "For people who..." so I could implicitly acknowledge things happened, but that they happened for the benefit of other people or entities.

Well at least you acknowledge that things actually happened.

Well at least you acknowledge that things actually happened.

Sure a ton of stuff, much of it I liked - personally. I even liked the iMessage bubbles. But my company is not impressed at all, and continues to see no way forward with Apple hardware.

PIP is just a window on top, you can already do that with a video player. Tabs in all apps... Is just the UI putting the windows in a tabbed list. Those 2 things took one developer maybe a month.

Take a look at Apple page:
http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra-preview/

It is siri, shared clipboard, apple watch unlock. The rest is either minor or does already exists in some form.

Come on people, it's 2016, iOS and Android are in near perfect condition, you can't expect magic or much revolution at this point, considering all that I'm actually excited. A little! I can't wait for the new widgets, 3D touch looks STUNNING, deleting stock apps and iMessage - eh, eh, I kind of like the emoji part even tho I only text with few people, It's kinda cool to have!

So get over it because Steve isn't coming back anytime soon and even if he was, he'd probably be going in the direction of Apple being so tightly closed and limited that it would hurt the company even more.

Hey could have been worse, they could have announced more cheesy animated watch faces and watch bands... wait...what?

Considering that this is the "Apple Worldwide Developers Conference"... of course nothing was going to excite you. Looks like Apple have gone back to concentrating what that event was originally purposed for and saving the hardware updates for the latter part of this year.

It's a developer event. Not a media event. You're just hurt because you're impatient. Personally, I'm glad they're not forgetting what they're good at... making ace software. Hardware is secondary now until they release something big hardware wise when the cost of the technology comes down.

Guys let's be fair. It has been ups and downs in apple life. I witnessed it for 30 years. In the beginning it was even worse. I was the only one equipped with mac when all firms were devoted to Bill Gate!

We cannot impress constantly. Faithfulness is to stick to what we love from the beginning and push for the best. I won’t leave the boat at the first threatening wave. I stay loyal to the end.

Of course, we miss the creativity of M. Steve Job, but I believe that Tim Cook is not doing a bad job! I sincerely believe that apple is coming up with a great surprise for next session... Wait and see! Love and peace.

This video leaves out too many parts of the keynote. It's missing the part about the new Macbook Pro, the new Mac Pro, the new Mac Mini, the new Thunderbolt Display, etc.

They normally announce hardware on the event that announces hardware....... Like for example when they announce next iphone. Not on their software event.. You should get a brain transplant :)

A friend noted that this might actually be part of the problem. Apple has a history of taking the best people to work on big new projects, and leaving the old products behind. One wonders if maybe all the best and brightest at Apple are now working on the car project... because they certainly aren't working on macOS and somewhat iOS it seems.

8.1billion $ last year spend suggests massive resources diverted to the car

Thing is Tesla are going for it in a big way and they will have to go some to take them on. The gigafactorty will produce more cells than anywhere else on the planet - are apple going to put up a similar factory ??

Sorry off topic but explains no hardware as it seems all mechanical/design engineers are designing bits for cars

Unfortunately, it wasn't worth wasting 7 minutes, let alone over 2 hours.

When the biggest cheers came from the intro of automated-emojis, it pretty much settled it for me that I'm clearly not part of Apple's target market anymore.

That was my feeling, too.

It being a developer conference is an even simpler explanation realistically speaking.

Then why exactly did Apple almost exclusively focus on the consumer oriented part of the new operating systems? Or do you really think developers waited with bated breath on things like emoji substitutions in Messages, a redesigned Apple Music, or an educational toy app for kids to learn programming?

If Apple really had focused again on topics important to developers, they would have talked in length about the upcoming new file system and not have two clowns faff about Messages for almost 10 minutes.

Or they would have introduced new hardware that the developers could be using to do the actual developing...

Because as mentioned that was the media and public part of the conference with the bulk of the actual developer parts of it happening over a period of the next few days. Not exactly a new or a surprising thing there given that's what WWDC is.

You're probably right but I seem to remember hardware launches at every wwdc in recent times.

I thought it was ok though to be honest why launch a new iPad mini for the sake of it

When I saw the demo of writing letters on a grid for text entry in watchOS 3, though to myself, "The Graffiti patents licensed by Palm must have expired." Sure Jeff Hawkins got a good laugh out of it.
