I got a new AW series 6 and it the battery was going crazy fast, I turned off "screen always on" and new it's good,,,but I'm disappointed with that because that was the main reason that I upgraded from my series 4. I wanted the always on screen. Yesterday ran the watch OS7.01 and it changed the way credit cards show up in the wallet. I was a the store and could only get 1 card and figured out that you no longer swipe across, but you now swipe up, or turn the crown.
You should be able to use your brand new series 6 with the display on, and all the features, without issue. If you can't, I would maybe look into calling Apple or exchanging the watch. I wouldn't just accept it and compromise.

Certainly not normal. I am getting 40 hours out of my Series 6 with the AOD and everything else on, others are getting similar results. For more details or some ideas for the S6 model specifically, refer here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/series-6-battery-life-how-long-does-your-s6-last.2256065/

I'd suggest: Unpair/Repair, Remove all 3rd party complications, discharge to 0% (let watch die), wait 5 minutes, then charge back up to 100%.

Agreed! If I just bought a device and it wasn't living up to my expectations, then I would return it for a replacement. I have been quite pleased with my S5 on watchOS 6 as well as 7. I love my Always On Display.

Something strange happened last night. I went to bed with 40% and I woke up this morning to an empty battery. Somehow overnight the battery drained completely. Very strange as it was in sleep mode. Has this happened to anyone else? I have had the watch since launch day and its been running fine and only draining 10% overnight. Wonder if this could be due to the firmware update to 7.0.1.

At this moment, I am 28.5 hrs thus far since taking my series 6 off the charger and I have 24% left. I have been very pleased thus far with battery life.

I to am very pleased with the battery life thus far. It’s been about 24 hours off charger and my percentage is now at 51%. I am on the newest iOS update 7.0.1. I did re-paired my watch as well.

Though the massive drain during normal use seems to be resolved with 7.0.1, I still experience heavy battery usage whenever playing music/podcasts. Came back from a two hours long run with cellular disabled but playing podcasts and had 25% drain per hour. With watchOS 6 this was around 15% battery per hour.

Kudos for the 2 hour long run. The longer the better. :D 16 miles?

As to playing podcasts, were these already downloaded to the watch or were you streaming?

I usually had a loss of 5% in the morning, after having it fully charged around midnight and then disconnected. Usual "routine" every second day. The first days with 7.0 and 7.01 it ran down somewhat around 12% during the night and ended at less than 40 after 24 hours. - i had to charge it every day. Now it is back to the 5%. Could have been 7.0 or just some days to settle down. Now after 15 hours at 80%, thats ok then.

Updated to 7.0.1 and battery is a lot better so far. I would end up with 5% battery at around 10:30pm, at 12:30am I was sitting around 41%. Will see how today goes

20km:)

As I was running with cellular switched off they were already on the watch (Overcast).

With cellular enabled I saw battery consumption even without streaming of 40-50% per hour which is terrible. Was before 25% on watchOS 6.

If you had GPS tracking enabled during the run with podcast going as well, the battery consumption you saw is not unexpected. Given the currently technology of the Apple Watch, there is not much we can do about it.

Sure, I know. I run 7 days a week with GPS enabled.

My point is that the consumption of watchOS 7 is about 50-80% higher than my experience with watchOS 6 was under similar conditions: GPS enabled, cellular disabled and listening to podcasts stored on the watch.

My first full day with my S6 yesterday finished with 54% battery when I went to bed.

I’m pretty disappointed in watchOS 7 battery. I just restored as new after updating to 7.0.1. Took a 40 minute walk and I’m already at 82% at 9:30 AM. Watch off the charger at 8:00.

I’ll monitor the rest of the week, but something is up with this OS. I was going to bed at 50% with WatchOS6. Hopefully the watch is just indexing.

Do you have a cellular model or GPS? Did you log the walk or was it casual? Did you have your phone with you?

Walk logged. No phone. Cellular. No streaming or offline audio. I just don’t remember it draining that much on watchos6.

I’ll monitor the rest of the week and if I’m at 40-50% at the end of the day I’ll be happy, but the drain from the walk this morning feels suspicious.

Cellular drain can change day to day even using the same route. It can change hour to hour.

As far as my experience has been thus far, WatchOS 7 has been on par with WatchOS 6 (as a whole).

Do we expect more battery drain from the hand washing app? What about turning on location based reminders to wash hands?

I haven’t enabled either yet. Waiting to see if my battery normalizes before trying them.

Really impressed With the battery life you’re getting with the watch , wish my iPhone and iPad had such good battery life I can tell you ! My iPhone 8 Plus needs recharging every 2 days despite doing virtually nothing with it !

I have been using the new Typograph watch face on my series 6 with everything enabled (including hand washing and its reminder). All apps are toggled on for background app refresh. With normal usage and no workout (texts, notifications, phone calls, weather etc) I can easily get 24 hrs use from a charge. In fact, I just finished a 36hr use nearly two hours ago.

Thanks, I will give my watch a few days to stabilize and then give hand washing a try.

I think it’s a cool feature even if the internet thinks it’s stupid.
