Im in the same boat. I was going to order the SS WSB + Link Bracelet, but I felt that they would have shipped full link + watch orders first.
I guessed wrong.
My 0.02 is that because of the lead times on the links, Apple probably started production of these watches FIRST. Then, they probably scrapped a TON of them (taptic engine) going into the launch, hence the later window from the get go.
These factors all are beyond a laymen to comprehend, but being from a manufacturing background, I would start on the products that take the longest, first, and then take on the quickest products last.
I know it makes no sense, because the SS bodies are all the same, but remember that they also got flooded with orders across the board.. My bet is that the SS + Links got scrapped en-masse.
TL;DR - They scrapped a bunch of SS Link models and thats why we got a delayed launch date from the get go.
I guess the opposite from you and it paid off on launch day.
I figured that anything stating 4-6 weeks for delivery would ship slower than anything that stated 2-4 weeks for delivery.
And I figured that a watch that said I could have it 4/24-5/8 would be the fastest shipping watch I could possibly hope for.
Ergo, my husband got a 38mm SS BSB on launch day (and his link band just started preparing for shipment this afternoon) and I wound up with a 38mm SS Milanese loop on launch day (and I'm still waiting to be able to order a Modern Buckle because the 4-6 week wait on launch day was NOT reassuring to me at all).
I'm also waiting for a white sport band. I think they had affixed all those to sport and SS watches prior to launch and I'm just now hearing about people getting the very first WSB orders fulfilled. I ordered my WSB on 4/16 after the 2nd time I tried on Apple Watches (specifically, the rose gold Edition model) and decided I really liked that sport band.
TL;DR When Apple gives out a shipping estimate at launch, believe it.
You'll get your watch very soon. I am confident of this.
