How about this for an improvement: bring out a watch with a stainless steel bracelet that looks as if it has onyx squares embedded in it (it could be made to look very handsome indeed). Only the black squares are actually photoelectic cells and what we have is the world's first solar-powered smartwatch that never needs recharging. Under Steve, that was the kind of swing-for-the-fences innovation we loved so much. What do we get under the Tim/Joni combo? For the most part, tons of of e-mojis.

Not necessarily software related but would love a deal announcement with carriers to support prepaid plans... of course for sub $10 ;)

A step counter complication that shows a number on the screen live will never happen. People will start fuming when they see that only 24 steps were registered after 25 steps one day, and 26 steps were registered after 25 the next.
Sure, that is why no other activity tracker (Fitbit et al.) can show live step count on their displays. Not.

At least 3 things that needs to be addressed.

1) Audible - I would like to be able to listen to audiobooks during exercises rather than music. Now I would need to bring my iPhone for that.

2) GPS - Went cross country skiing this winter and that activity won't let me monitor my distance traveled! What the f$"%?

3) Night time - During the night this "raise to wake" feature is not necessary. I don't know how many times my watch have illuminated my bedroom and woke my kid. If I needed to know what time it was I could press the side button for instance.

3rd party watch faces would certainly be a welcome addition.

official podcast app for sure is needed. to be used without your phone too.

Wow- this list is missing the biggest failure: no WiFi access. If you have WiFi at home you can get iMessages and take calls from your iPhone to your iPad but if your watch is not in the same room, forget it. I hate the fact the I watch can’t get notifications or calls or imessages on my watch if my phone was left in the other room and it can’t take advantage of WiFi.
your room is bigger than 500 feet? I can leave my phone in my locker and my watch stays connected all throughout the gym

If Apple doesn't include a Podcasts app in watchOS 5 I'm gonna scream...

Apple popularized podcasts a decade ago and now that they've finally exploded in popularity, they suddenly have nothing to contribute. Just another huge thing Apple has let wither and die while the rest of the world moves onto better things...
I'm with you. I've commented on it a number of times. The lack of a podcast app that can play directly from the watch is just stupid at this point. I always listen to podcasts when I run and I am tired of carrying my phone with me. They might have more of my money at this point - I may have upgraded to cellular - with a simple podcast app.

What's worse is that you can't invoke "hey Siri" on the watch to open the podcast app on the phone and start playing. One of the major points of the watch is to be able to accomplish things "hands free". When I'm running, I don't want to try to get my phone out of the tiny pockets on my shorts, try to unlock it, and risk dropping it with my sweaty hands. But hey, this is a real fitness device... sheesh

lots of these aren't really great ideas.

Activity app improvements
Watch is about tracking stuff. If you already know your rest day, there's no point in setting it. Just don't work out that way.

Off-wrist Notifications indicator
That's what your phone is for.

Proximity notifications
I think a lot of people occasionally step away from their phone a lot which could be annoying if everyone turned it on.

Sleep tracking
Super obvious since Apple bought that smart sleeping company.

Always-on display
Current and past watches will never have this. Future hardware will probably have it.

Gonna have to disagree, you can "know" your rest day, but what that means is you hit your goals 6 days and miss them on one...meaning streaks are broken.

Off wrist notifications is kind of a bad name...I'd call it something more like persistent notifications. What if you are at the gym with only your watch, which you took off to take a shower? Those missed notifications are now out in the ether, waiting for you back at home, but your watch has no idea. The watch now has LTE but it is still crippled by software.

The proximity notifications would be shown on the watch...most people I know with an Apple Watch don't have sound on.

All I really want is more watchface options, especially digital ones. And the photo watch face to allow more customization...let me put more complications on it. Also a square analog face that isn't exclusive to Hermes would be nice. Also improving the notification popups would be great too - I want edge to edge swipe actions (like swipe right to left to archive an email, without having to scroll through the whole thing.) Or if swipes don't work, let us force touch to get actions on a notification.

More info on the Siri face. It’s ridiculous that it only shows two cards at a time, that cards like Reminders wastes space with the word “Reminder”, and that there are only two complication spots and a bunch of wasted black space at the top.

We should also be able to make the Siri face look different, maybe with different color schemes based on times and seasons, etc.

Moon phase info on Siri face. Better Weather app that also shows sunrise, moon phase, etc. Siri face should tell me if I need an umbrella today instead of making me look at the day’s weather.

Siri complications — NOT just Siri shortcuts — for other faces.

Watch OS needs to be less glitchy, more consistent, and speedier. Siri needs to be smarter.

Reminders and Calendar need to be unified. Reminders across OSs needs to be improved, especially by allowing exports, group deletions, etc.

I forgot to mention third-party data sources for the Siri face.

Already exists -- Theatre Mode. Swipe up and press the happy/sad masks.

Yes a round watch, the current Apple watch is ugly.
Also I would want the option to shut down all radiation features (Wifi, bluetooth etc..) to reduce cell damage.
This is a major issue with the iPhone as well, wher control center no longer truly shuts down wifi and Blietooth.
Let me decide when I sync my device, at night I want to recive urgent calls without having dangerous radiation near my head all night!

Sounds like Airplane Mode -- something that has been available since the first AW. Heck, the first iPhone.

"Always ON" is such a foolish item to have on a "Wishlist" What benefit do you get from that other than battery drain. I have my raise to wake off and just tap on it when I want to see a notification or time. Just silly.

Disagree with your comments.

1. It's a "wish" list. Wishes and reality do not have to be immediately possible or practical. It's a wish for the future. I don't think anything would get invented or improved if people didn't dream and wish about things thought to be impossible or impractical. What! People can fly in metal carcasses that will take them thousands of miles in a matter of hours? Using carriages fueled by fossils?

2. Always on option is neither foolish nor silly. At least no sillier than wearing a blank black slab on your wrist. For one, raise to wake isn't always immediate or responsive. If I gently raise my wrist, maybe it works, maybe not. I have to make a purposeful movement to for it to guarantee to work. Which brings us to #2. If I'm in a place where I need to be discreet because, you know, looking at a watch can be a sign of boredom or disrespect, raise to wake is useless. My watch is useless in that situation.

Surely they mean Compilation.
  • Live step count complication - MacRumors reader Breezygirl would like to see Apple add a live step complication that lets you see how many steps you've completed at a glance, rather than just a complication that lets you know how close you've come to hitting your activity ring goal.

My television, computer, light bulbs and smartphone are blank screens until I want to see something. It would be foolish to have those always on.

What about having the music and podcast app have access to the speaker... don’t think third party should have the same access yet. I know it would drain battery but would be handy in some circumstances to not have to grab your AirPods.

I’m neutral on that...I always have my AirPods with me anyway haha
