As for the wave? Maybe they are going to move from big cats to marine mammals.

OS X 10.9 will be OS X Dolphin.

Oh I just realized that the WWDC logo is probably the same font, too. Looks nice!

Is it OS X Tsunami..... :)

9to5Mac has posted a new photograph showing a wave-themed banner with an X in the middle, similar to the iOS 7 banner that was revealed earlier today. The spartan and minimalistic banners are significant change from the style used in previous years, particularly the OS X banner below.

The X appears to use the Helvetica Neue Ultra Light font, an extremely thin variant of Helvetica and the same font as the iOS 7 banner.

You know, for the first time in a while, I'm actually really excited about one of these Apple announcements. I suppose it's partly because software innovations are easier to keep under wraps. But, we really don't have much in the way of leaks at all about this new Jony Ive-ified iOS and the new OS X. Should be interesting.

----------

That would make no sense.

It makes perfect sense. Some unification between the two operating systems is inevitable. By unification, all I mean to say is that there is increasingly more overlap in the interface and the functionality of OS X and iOS. It would only make sense to do this.

Interesting... notice how there is much more interest in OS X than iOS based on comment count on the last two stories. Good. iOS is cool, but its not a replacement for a real OS and computer.

It's also the first first page story over the weekend (as MacRumors doesn't update over the weekend very often).

Not only that but there isn't much more to say about a colorful 7 on a minimalist background that isn't already here.

Not only that but half the comments are speculating on the name because it's silly, half of those comments could be summarized with "Sea Lion :D"

Not only that but Macs don't get as much love because MR is usually covered with important stuff like ongoing lawsuits so we are just giving in to release.

7X implies a unification. It is not nor will it ever be unified. Two completely different intended audiences.

Services between both platforms expanding allows a more seamless interaction. Merging into a unified OS is beyond silly.

Ok, I guess I should clarify. Of course they will not be totally the same. I just meant the services, interactions and look will be more unified.

Only in the marketing materials. The full name of the OS is still "Mac OS X".

And on my Windows7 system:

Code:
\\House\Home\user> echo %OS%
Windows_NT

Internal OS string identifiers aren't changed just because the official name changes. It would break tons of apps without any benefit.

God, what if they remove the Dock and bring iOS multi-tasking?

They already have the same dock on both OSs.

We haven't heard much about OS X, have we? Will it also be getting a make over? I'm expecting it to take a lot of design queues from the Mac App Store and the newest version of iTunes... lots of system app icons will be becoming colored circles, I think.

Sounds really hideous right now... right now I have 3 circles in my dock:
1 - Spotify
2 - The Mac App Store
3 - Activity Monitor (I have it set to show me my available RAM always in the dock, which it does in the form of a pie chart.)

I think the days for the Dock are counted, maybe not in 10.9, but in the near future it will vanish.

I really like the Dock and just updated to Lion from Snow Leopard a few weeks ago. Stability wise, Lion is a joke.
But the multi touch provided by Lion is gorgerous. Often I catch myself by using the Launchpad instead of the Dock. Launchpad is just a gesture away, I don't have to move the mouse pointer - "gesture - click - program runs" (I know it's not necessary, but we are Apple devotees and "progress" is in our character, or am I wrong?).

The last two years I followed the Snow Leopard - Lion - Mountain Lion discussion very very closely.
I also thought that I will never need the new stuff like Launchpad or that I will never get used to Mission Control because Expose/Spaces is so superior (which it is), but I got used to both.
I realized that Apple is just at the beginning to use the full capabilities of the gorgerous trackpad implemented in our lovely MacBooks.

In 2008 the trackpad was born, in 2009 Snow Leopard followed and I think the time period was too narrow to implement the full capabilities of the trackpad into OS X. In 2008 the Mac Hardware was 3-4 years ahead of software.
Now with every new OS X interation we will come close to the full abilities of the trackpad.
I can't wait to see the new ideas.
