No excuse... Really, you could of fooled me with your anti apple bantering you have been doing across the boards......

Look, the iPhone is not a bad phone. It does what it does pretty well. It's not perfect either.

The problem when you have people that see the world as white and post as such, is that the grey people replying to them always seem black.

"iPhone is best evar! Android isn't even close".

"The iPhone isn't the best, for instance it doesn't do blah blah...".

2nd poster might seem like an Apple hater, but for all you know, he has an iPhone and he likes it.

The problem with this forum is the guys that tout Apple as the 2nd coming leave no room for objective talk. iPhone is just another feature phone. It's nothing special. Some people might enjoy it, others might want something else. Hence why there's no clear winner in the smartphone or cellphone market, but a heavy dose of competition. The "1 size fits all" in phones is rubbish.

Same for Flash. iPhone users don't all dislike Flash contrary to what anecdotal evidence you might hear here. Many visit sites like newgrounds daily on their Macs, many like playing Facebook games. Many like watching video on sites that might not have jumped to HTML5 yet. Many would like to use their iPhone to do these things when they aren't at home. Right now, that's impossible. Are you going to tell me these people are wrong when they were sold a "mobile Internet device" and now they can't do what they want to do on the Internet with it ?

The fact is, the 2 train of thoughts that are vehiculated on this site by many "apple fans" is wrong :

- The world isn't black and white. There is no such thing as "Are you with us or against us ?" Neither is a perfectly good answer. Wanting Flash on iPhone to see the same content you look at in Firefox on your OS X home Desktop is not a crime. It's precisely what competition is there for, offering the user choice.

- "There must be only one!" made for a pretty good movie, but it makes for ****** economics. If Google makes a product you like, use it. It doesn't mean you have to use each and everyone of their products and like all of them because of it. Same for Apple. Like your Macbook ? More power to you. Prefer a Xperia X10 as your phone ? What's the problem ? Go ahead. Want to use Firefox instead of Safari on the Macbook ? What's the harm in that ?

And that's where all the posts going "If you hate Apple so much, go to a Android forum!" fail. Mac users can be Android users too. Macrumors is a place for rumors about Apple products, all of them.

Really, is smooth scrolling more important than the content?

Is having the kitchen sink more important than user experience?

If smoothness is not an issue I guess you would have no problem if Sony or Microsoft shipped all their games running at 15 frames a second!

Look, smoothness might be important, but come back when the iPhone has it. Scrolling long pages in mobile Safari isn't smooth at all. Sure, the white and grey checkboard might look smooth, but it's not like the phone actually scrolls displayed content.

The fact is, no one has yet to come up with smooth scrolling on a phone.

No problem discussing merits of each product, but there are a few on here on either side that go to the extreme. Sorry, if I wanted to hear about the second coming of "android" which is being touted on here by more then just one I would visit an android forum. Nothing wrong when comparing phones, but there are a few on here who take it to far and if someone sticks up for the iPhone, "Fanboy" is the first thing that fly's out of the mouth of someone preaching another product.

"PocketNow has now posted a follow-up video showing that, with Flash disabled, the Android 2.2 browser is indeed faster than Safari on the iPhone 3GS in many of the real-world tests shown, sometimes by a significant margin."

Way to go, Google! :D

I Hope Android becomes a big success, both technologically and in terms of being designed to make customers happy. Competition is a good thing. It makes things happen. It provides an alternative for us.

Apple needs competition.

Jobs hates Flash and Java, because both can bypass his walled garden

Hold on there! Now you're getting your arguments mixed up. We were discussing viewing content using a Flash plugin, not cross platform development. Still as you bought it up, I think your argument is BS. Any company can deploy a web app (e.g. googlevoice) and theres not a damn thing Apple can do about it. They've banned cross platform development tools to create iPhone apps because they want control of their own platform. A perfectly reasonable thing to do IMHO.

I'm wondering if many of the posters here are Flash/Java developers who think they have a right to Sh*t out lowest common denominator apps for all platforms including iPhone OS. They are mistaken.

*EDIT In fact Apple didn't even WANT an app store, they wanted 3rd party web apps. Now they've relaxed the rules to allow 3rd party native apps, they get vilified for not allowing their platform to be usurped by cross platform code generators. They have to draw the line somewhere! *EDIT

Ohh! You are so wrong. You are not considered a true Apple user if you are not a follower of Steve Jobs! ;)

LMAO. flash was so much fail. He could barely navigate the page when Flash content was active. Not to mention it killed his system resources!

Keep this garbage off the iphone os.

Yep. Then if you wait a couple of more months, the new generation of Android phones will start coming out, all based on Tegra 2 and Intel Atom Z6. Which will make the new iPhone HD hardware seem like a year old again.

Flash will, of course, run better on the Tegra 2 and Intel Atom Z6.

The place where Flash will really be needed, is on the bigger screens of the slew of Android tablets coming out with these chips.

Then, the iPad will look like a year old, too.

Can you imagine how many tablets will come out with that OS?! I mean damn Best Buy will only have room for android devices at the amount company's pump em out.

Like a world take over. Just wish it was someone other than google with the OS though :(

I'm glad i'm not the only person who's noticed how one sided this sites news has become.

The reporters here will post articles about the issues they find on other devices, but they will never post the positives. Same goes with Apple products just in reverse. They only post the good things and hype but rarely if ever post the bad.

Yes, that's the reason I come here - to learn how great Android is. That and to decry Apple products and Steve Jobs.

What a stupid comment. I'm sorry for being so blunt, but ffs, I come here to chat with other Mac and Apple fans about products that may or may not be released soon, and to discuss what we'd like to see in their new products, and what features may be included, etc.

I don't come here for any other purpose and I don't come here so people who disagree with Apple or any of its products can attack me for liking them just to inflate their sense of self-worth in the world of technology and gadgetry.

No?

That's a quote from Jobs - "freedom from porn".

Sounds like control and censorship to me.

Don't do that. That sort of logic is the illogic that will claim that freedoms are curbed because I can't murder you, because the law has removed my freedom to do this. Stop doing that. There is no censorship here. Apple has decided that porn apps on the App Store are verboten, that is all. The iPad and iPhone will still allow you to view, download and enjoy porn from non-Flash sources. There is no censorship here.

As for control, the hardware is Apple's, if you don't like what you can or can't do with it, stop buying the products. It's their product, they have no obligation to address your personal wants with it. Their mantra is user experience and they do a great job with that. If you disagree, buy other products, there are (too) many of them out there from which to choose.

....

LOL. You should let someone brush the wool off your eyes.

Web apps do not provide the same user experience as real apps, and most of the world knows it. The real Google Voice is a completely different and much better experience on Android (just like the real web :)

Even the GV Mobile + app available on Cydia (which is what I use) is way better than the web app for the iPhone.

And Jobs changes his mind often, depending on where the profits are: a year ago he claimed that e-books are a dead-end, because "nobody reads." Today, he claims that the iPad is revolutionizing reading. Same was with Apps.

The same idiots who were so vociferous about "I don't need no cut&paste, or search, or GPS, or landscape sms, or mms, or video recording, or front-facing camera, or LED flash," were and will be the first to tout the "new" iPhone model which finally got these features.

Everyone should go with whatever works for them. Flash or no flash, the real problem is your choice is limited by the broadband and telecommunications company. :(

Down with Flash!

Interesting. Notice that Opera-mini does some server side rendering of pages. So that's a bit misleading. But if flash runs that poorly what it does to your battery life. Jobs is totally justified in omitting it from mobile devices. Let's hope it will soon be history. Nonsense on stilts.

What's misleading about Opera Mini? They tell you how it works. It's a great browser. In fact I'm using it to post this comment.

I have yet to see someone give a gold reason on why users shouldn't have a choice in enabling Flash content.

Its clearly obvious..

..given the quality of the games on show, free using flash on android, that Apple's primary concern is losing the app store revenue if flash was implemented on iOS.

The tech limitations are just the usual smokescreen that iCon likes to blow up when he's wrong.

There are enough talented people at both Apple and Adobe to make this work seamlessly if they wanted to.

they ported OSX to Intel in 8 mths FFS! a browser plug in would be no problem.

hold the internet in my hands.... really???

jokers

opera mini is fine for non data secure tasks....they have server side rendering in Nigeria!

no reasons against flash...... even the blind could see that.

So What have we learned?

What have we learned here!!!
1.Turning Flash off makes the device run faster and more responsive.
2. Battery life will be greatly reduced even running flash on WiFi.
3. Given items #1 and #2 most Andriod people will disable flash when not needed.
4. Iphone users will not have a choice to enable flash. They could use "cloudbrowse however slow.

What was not mentioned here???
1. Flash is a major securrity hole with endless bloated in size security patches that adobe has not shown in the past it can ever fix

2. Most Virus and Trojans today are delivered to computers using flash.

3. Most Adult and Download sites are loaded with flash based spyware, adware and trojans.

4> Android Users will have a choice to get hacked:rolleyes:

5. Flash still crashes my Windows 7 64bit machine with 4Gig of Ram.

6. This test was using an 11 month old Iphone 4.0 beta OS with much slower processor.

So I score this TEST
Steve Jobs 1
Android using Flash 0

OK Adobe your best is still not good enough!!!

#3 is not going to be viable all the time. Chances are web designers will make sure a flash site comes up for android phones once most of them support it. If you disable flash on the android they will still try to send you the flash version of the website which might require flash(for advertising purposes maybe). The iphone in some of those cases might get a non flash version of the site because the iphone doesn't have an option for flash so the developer made sure to provide a non flash page for them.
