I just refuse to believe a guy that rants on a device without actually using it while playing with his Star Wars dolls, sorry!

His argument is either accurate or inaccurate, regardless of anything about him as a person.

Its not an old tired old argument, when Apple themselves promote themselves as innovative and market leading, so its hard to reconcile their products as innovative but are only catching up to the competition

Being innovative doesn’t strictly mean having to come out with brand new tech/features no one has ever seen before. Innovation can also mean using clever methods to make an existing thing better or advance it to the next level. For example just because it’s the most recent. FaceID, face recognition itself isn’t new. In fact it outright sucks on other devices like a Samsung, because they are easily fooled by just a photo. However the way Apple is implementing it is innovative, because it pushes that whole sector of technology forward. It’s more secure than TouchID and will soon become a gold standard on most flagship smartphones in the next year or two, just how TouchID changed how fingerprint readers are to be judged by.

Innovation isn’t always visible on the outside of the device either. Apple is absolutely crushing their chip design. Or even new methods of making the logic board take up less physical space by using a new stacked logic board in the iPhone 10 to allow for 2 pack “L” shaped battery (Larger battery in a smaller device)

The problem with those who claim Apple doesn’t innovate is that they can’t look past just the cosmetic design of the device and completely ignore everything else.

Hence my point that he has a history of spouting off on a device without actually using it

Are you saying you disagree with his initial impressions or not?

Personally I don't care as I have absolutely no intentions of getting the iPhone X. Even the iPhone 8 is low on the list for me at this point as I'm not a big fan of the direction Apple is taking with iOS (or MacOS for that matter).

When people can come up with nothing better than shooting the messenger, you know they've lost the argument.

It’s very difficult to make a valid counterpoint because Apple is doing things that don’t make sense anymore.

He's not wrong, you just can't defend it, I really think this phone is going to flop, it's gathering to much controversy and hate and will end up not being cool to own and therefore not sell, it's what everybody is thinking that knows or appreciates good hardware and software.

Maybe the fact it's so expensive its going to make those buying it look pretentious and brash?

I just wish iOS 11 incorporated the top Jailbreak tweaks. Those additions alone would make iOS 11 feel like iOS 15.

And JB tweaks aren't just for themes and stuff. There's some very useful tweaks that change certain core system apps to just be so much better then stock, and make using the iPhone a ton better.

Here we are, iOS 11 on the brand new next gen iPhone X, and it just doesn't look right. With the new X, should have come a refreshed UI from Apple.

I think the "uncharacteristically" is the new norm where apple will now have price points from $399 to $999. Budget, high-end, and two mid-tier models. Personally I think this is good for consumers and good for apple. I expect some of these models to drop off in the future.

People don't have any issues buying Samsung tvs that show 10 different models on the floor or buying cars, which is one of the worst buying experiences on the planet.

I also don't think apple will have any issues selling the iphone x. I don't see the average consumer, having a point of view expressed in a lot of these posts. The average consumers (whoever their demographic is) just wants products that work.

When you have a user base of 700 million people, like iOS has, you have to satisfy as many tastes / income levels you possibly can. I think Apple's done a good job here. Like others have said, there's something for everyone.

I usually don't watch this guy because his voice totally irritates me, but he's absolutely right about the ugly perma-notch. Design decisions at Apple are questionable.

Why does there have to be a bottom chin
The top one I get. But the bottom one..no

Because it looks better.

Whether it's a black chin or a white chin, there is still a chin (unused space occupied only by the swipe up bar). You minus well make it black for the symmetry.

Why are you surprised it just doesn't look right? Apple first gen devices are huge experiments. Give them a year or two, they will figure it out. It took the Apple Watch three tries to become a great buy to me.

Christ. I lasted about 24 seconds with this guy. He's even worse.

Is there anybody vlogging on this who isn't completely insufferable?

That's the YouTube culture for you, everybody trying to be a 2017 version of Max Headroom, lol. I even have a 20-something roommate who "discovered" Max Headroom on one of the video services and watches it like it's his favorite show. Trying to tell him it was annoying even back then and caused someone to disfigure the actor's face, sigh.

A great video.

It's a love letter to Apple.

"Please give up the pipe and get back to making sweet music xxx"

He's right as well.

Not that Apple has never fumbled a product before under Jobs, but now it seems like once a year they do something that leaves you wondering if they've lost focus.

Too many people also confuse the size of quarterly earnings with good product design. Big mistake.

Either that or it's spoilt brat syndrome and they're not getting exactly the phone they think they ought to be getting.

I don't know - you could take any iPhone release under Steve Jobs and there will be lots of people hating on it. That's just the way of the internet, especially forums like this one. Most people care far less than we do, and are simply quite happy to get what they can afford when they're out of contract. That's indicative of Apple producing solid product year on year, no matter how much we shriek about UI/UX in our geeky little corner of the internet. If it was so awful, it wouldn't sell.

I intend to embrace the notch, I don’t watch movies or tv shows on my phone, nothing more than a quick clip so it won’t bother me. Most of my pictures are portraits too, so that won’t bother me either.

How can you talk symmetry when apple has steered so far away from what symmetrical design is?
The notch throws off symmetry making a bottom bar doesn't help it

The notch was just completely unnecessary to achieve an E2E "bezel-less" effect. If you look at the S8, they really nailed how to make an impressive display. The curved sides make content blend seamlessly into your environment. It would have been amazing if Apple could have done that with the top and bottom, or maybe even every edge.

I'm thinking Samsung wouldn't let Apple do the same, and Appel had to reach for something to make their own mark. But by doing so, they gave up so much.

I honestly do not think those curved edges on the note look all that good. I prefer my display to be a flat slab of glass not curved. But that’s just my preference.

the iPhones glass is curved. just the lcd isn't pulled down with it. Are you saying you like a flat display and glass being curved is fine? haha.
Id personally want flat glass feel and edge to edge display. not this curved glass but flat display trickery
