I'm sure it will, considering that Apple's Human Interface Guidelines specify how landscape applications should work.

And it's nothing like that strange animation someone cooked up.
What does it say in regards to the scroll bar when in landscape and the notch is on the right?

In landscape there are WHITE bars to the left and right of the website.
It really looks terrible.

I truly think that while that would have worked quite easily with an OLED screen, Apple wanted a more unique look, including the visible notch. Otherwise it would look like a Samsung or LG:

The only "Unique" look out there is the Iphone and Iphone +. When you go Bezel Less they will all look the same, well except if you want to add a notch. Smart Phone design has reached it's peak IMO.

The next "big thing" will be Retro Smart Phones that are bezel less. Like a Bezel Less Full Screen OLED Iphone 5. We are headed back to the smaller is better with full screens.

Is there really no landscape mode on the X?

Hey. Its the most expensive iPhone ever. It HAS to be the best. Take my $$ Apple! (actually just received - EARLY - my Samsung note 8 - taking another break from Apple like I did when they refused to make a larger phone).

I'm not claiming it's why, but I think it's likely that it is why Apple decided not to use the notch and fill all 4 corners with screen.

Of course there's landscape. But I don't think for the home screen there is. Just like the 7.

All foreground content, including scroll bars, should be kept within a safe area that has the same margin from the left and right edge of the screen in landscape. On that side which has the sensor housing the margin is calculated without the housing. Background content such as backgrounds in game menus, 3D worlds in games, etc, should extend all the way to the edges of the screen.

I've yet to see anything from Apple that would indicate how Safari for instance will render website background images and colors. I imagine it will extend them all the way to the edges of the screen, rather than limiting them within the safe content area.

I said a few months ago they should delay this phone. From airpower not being ready, to touch id under the screen not being ready, it just felt really rushed.

But their stock would've plummeted
It would only be a temporary downturn on the stock price and it would have been the right thing to do, but to be perfectly frank. I don't think they see the notch as an issue.

what is the far right phone ? note 8 ?

Exactly. I have no idea myself. One is a samsung and one is an LG. I think that's Apple's point, they didn't want the X to look like every other "bezel-less" (but still has top and bottom bezels) phone.

I mean, look at this. I couldn't even tell you which phone is which:

g6, v30, s8+.

None of them have a notch that really screws up multimedia and the user experience, and they all have less bezels as the side bezels are way thinner than the thicker bezels that go around the X.

But hey, at least the X is different...

So you would rather have an ugly notch in the way so you and others know you have an iPhone? I'm sorry, but that is just ridiculous.

Chris may be annoying, but he's bang on. The X was rushed and I personally won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I.e. To the detriment or sacrifice of that screen real estate? So there’s edge to edge screen but UI elements must be within the notch? Good grief.

I wasn't saying that's what I want, I was just trying to explain why I think this is why Apple went that route.

But my preference in all honesty is to have the notch. I think the screen mimicking the radii of all 4 corners looks gorgeous (from hands on videos).

I assume you guys would have preferred to have top and bottom bezels like Samsung and LG do? Nothing wrong either way, just personal preference.

But they could’ve mimicked the curves with the UI as well.

He's not wrong, you just can't defend it, I really think this phone is going to flop, it's gathering to much controversy and hate and will end up not being cool to own and therefore not sell, it's what everybody is thinking that knows or appreciates good hardware and software.
Don't think will flop. Too many fanboys and people drinking koolaid

Yeah, agreed. Doesn't have the same wow factor when you see the screen follow and reach all 4 corners in person though.

I can appreciate though the thoughts about using the OLED screen to hide the notch and home indicator. Still does look good.

I agree that they did it to stand out. I just can't believe they'd sacrifice the user experience so much.

Yes, I prefer the symmetry of the other phones. The notch is just sooooo distracting for any kind of multimedia. Think, you're really into a game, panning in one direction, something catches the edge of your eye, well ****, it's just the notch...

I didn't have a problem with the notch at first cause I thought that the sides next to the notch were going to be blacked out with date, time, and carrier info so it would look less strange.
