Pirillo has been pissed at apple for a good while now,

Not saying that discredits what he's saying cause from skimming this thread id probably
Agree with most of what he's saying, but he's been furious with software QC specifically

Touch ID will be back and the notch will be gone next year....

And the same people who said that Touch ID is now obsolete/not needed and the notch isn't a big deal, will be singing their high praises that Touch ID is back and the notch is gone next year and it "only makes sense"

That's how it works. A lot of people agree with everything apple does until apple changes their minds then they're in the same boat.

There is super simple marketing trick: Create a need for the next generation product (iPhone 2018/2019) by breaking the current one just a little bit. Next year Apple can brag about being able to get rid of the notch entirely by placing the sensor behind the screen. They got a patent for that already.
Same reason goes for the iPhone 6 vs iPhone 7 design. With the 6, they introduced those crazy antenna bands, only to be able to brag about getting rid of those with the iPhone 7. And dont be mistaken, the iPhone 7 design was long ready for prime time when iPhone 6 launched.

This is like trying to endure Rachel Maddow. (This is not a political statement. It's just that he seems to be aping her annoying schtick.) The notch does suck, but this guy is worse.

I think he's become really really unlikable, even if I agree with some of his views, just always irate. It's not the best way to garner a following unless he's just looking for laughs and clickbait

He usually had the right idea, although I’m not 100% in agreement with his constant iOS quality obsession.
But this time he is absolutely right in everything he said, if the UI was improved along with the unlocking experience, then the choice between the 8 and X would be clear.

Nah. As someone looking forward to using the X and Face ID, I'd say whether Touch ID comes back or not, I'll be indifferent to it.

The notch doesn't bother me, but it truly would look incredible if there was zero notch/bezel. I can't see technologically how they'll find somewhere else to put all this stuff though. Really can't imagine that in a year all of it will be hidden:

I still plan on getting the X to play with Face ID and have the OLED screen. Shame the nits is the same as the iPhone 7, around 600 when the Note 8 has almost 1200!

Touch ID with no button will be here next year. I think of the X as a prototype iPhone we get to test...

Not hidden but maybe just seamless with slight bezel at the top, or a software update to make it uniform while keeping the physical chin

No one can convince me otherwise: when there's a white UI on the screen that chin is SUPER jarring

I'm genuinely surprised they didn't implement software tricks

I have a sneaking suspicion they still may.

It's a tough thing to balance -
If they do on such short notice (i.e by the time it ships in November), it shows a lack of confidence in the product they're putting out IMO.

They gotta stick with the chin at least for a little I think unfortunately

But I would favor it personally!

I wonder why they didn't implement those sensors into the regular 8 and 8 plus, they have the bezel for it.

Ya, the only way they get rid of the notch next year is by extending it to the edge of the screen or blacking it out with software.

An under screen finger print reader will NOT remove the notch, as there's no way they are ditching the facial recognition after all the effort put into it.

I agree with him. I really do...but oh my gosh!! His presentation! Annoyed the heck out of me. Whiny, but again, I totally agree with what he was saying. Big reason I skipped the X for the “7s/6sss”

Device would've been too much alike. Needed to differentiate the two.
The small bezels, compact body with large screen will still differentiate it enough imo, plus the back cameras, the materials (stainless steel), and gesture interface. There would still be more differentiation between the X and 8 than there is between the MBP with touch bar and without.

It's nice that more and more people are finally realizising the downsides of bezelless, no more physical buttons, no comfortable place for the finterprintscanner and very odd resolutions. Samsung hasn't figured out on where to put the fingerprintscanner and Apple decided to ditch TouchID for that ackward looking notch are they really expecting developer to release 2 version of their apps? One for the normal Iphones and one for the customers of the X? If so, that's not going to happen. I understand the business side of cutting the 128 GB version but man if I were an Iphone Customer I'd be pissed because even 10years after it's release there is still no sd card slot to increase the storage.

The gestures reminded me on Palm OS and personally I will say especially the recent Apps gesture looks much slower than pressing a button. Will Apple figure this out? For sure but it doesn't change the fact that the Iphone X looks more like a rushed prototype phone, similar like the Note 8 (I mean still a Bixby button, still the FSP next to the cameras?). Ironically both are the most expensive non super luxury phones people can buy today.

The thing people need to understand is Steve Jobs put the utmost respect and trust in Tim Cook and Jony Ive....

“Steve Jobs wouldn’t have done that.” This quote is getting old AF. Unless you personally knew Jobs, then your opinion is irrelevant.

As for Chris P, stop crying about the Apple software as if they would ever listen to you. Not happy with the IPhone X, iOS, move on to Android.

I usually don't watch this guy because his voice totally irritates me, but he's absolutely right about the ugly perma-notch. Design decisions at Apple are questionable.

DJornobUMAE_x6Q.jpg

Funny, because I think it looks better, and more... composed... on the left. Like I'm holding a proper screen. The right just looks like a screen with ugly bezels. But clearly to each his own!

And every time something comes out, it's "Steve Jobs would have NEVER let this happen" blah blah. Someone needs to create a list of all the outlandish decisions Steve Jobs made and post them here to remind people that Jobs was not perfect. A visionary? Absolutely. But far from perfect.
