There's only one way to hold your phone confourtably, and it is with one hand. The good thing about 3.5screens is this, if you no longer can do everything with one hand and need both, it' s better going with the 4.85 of the galaxy s3

I can one hand the 4.7" One X, no problem, and I have very average to maybe smallish hands. The whole "you can only one hand an iPhone sized phone!" is sheer Apple propaganda.

the tall phone looks UGLY

i don't see the massive need for bigger screens.
its the trend at the moment, is bond to happen

a screen roughly the same size as the S2 will be nice, i will go for that.

i love the feel and look of the 4/4S.
and would be happy if apple kept it, just with a bigger screen.
it doesn't need to be thinner,

After seeing the 4.3 inch Lumia 900, I'd like it in 4.3 or 4.6 inches.

I can't believe I'm going to agree. However, the Lumia REALLY feels nice in my hand. The tall, thin shape really grew on me. I could like it.

I think the lumia with WIN8 is going to be a problem for Android. :apple:

Am I the only person bothered by the continued use of the term 'iPhone 5'? We've been over this.... it's technically the 6th iPhone, it won't feature 5G network anything, and it will likely intro iOS 6 (or be running the same iOS 5 that the 4s did, which is really the 5th iPhone. . . . )..

</rant>

I just happened to watch CNBC today talking about Apple and the stock being down . . and it really bothered me that mass media is referring to the next iPhone as iPhone 5...
1. iPhone
2. iPhone 3G
3. iPhone 3GS
4. iPhone 4
5. iPhone 4S
6. iPhone 5
7. iPhone 5S
8. iPhone 6
9. iPhone 6S
10. iPhone 7
11. iPhone 7S

2. iPhone 3G
3. iPhone 3GS
4. iPhone 4
5. iPhone 4S
6. iPhone 6
7. iPhone 6S
8. iPhone 8
9. iPhone 8S
10. iPhone 10
11. iPhone 10S

Which makes more sense?

to be honest i think apple will drop the numbers
and fall into the same naming system as iPad and iPods now
and just call it iPhone.

if they don't,
i think they will go for the iPhone 6, iOS 6, 6th gen iPhone.
calling it the iPhone 5 is silly, it isn't the 5th iPhone and doesn't run iOS 5.

If that's the route they're going. iOS6 better kick butt. If not I think I'll be sitting this round out and get the SIII or Note and see what next years iPhone looks like

"Let's see, we have the most developer friendly platform and it's a success... What can we do to ruin it?"

Not gonna happen...

That's not necessarily true, it depends on your app. Game developers in particular (i.e. apps not using standard Apple-provided UI elements) are going to have the hardest time. For these apps (which is a very large percentage of those available in the App Store), supporting different aspect ratios is considerably more difficult than supporting other resolutions at the same aspect, although it really depends on the content. If you have an app that uses standard list views, scroll views, tab bars, etc., then yeah, it wouldn't be a big deal. But it could be a huge PITA for game devs, especially independents who don't have the resources to meticulously tailor all their artwork to every aspect ratio. It'll have to be done of course, but it's potentially a huge time sink, time that they spend not coding new apps.

100% agree... Look how they 'manage' in the android world: padding the screen with black bars...

just imagine the headache of moving from a 4:3 screen to 16:9 for all of the app developers out there. at least retina was just a 2x issue...

This. Every time I see this rumour I want want to remind people that if Apple starts fragmenting the screen displays, it will start to become unworkable for developers. Apple has the best dev platform, and one of the reasons is that we don't have an unlimited number of screen sizes to target - just iPhone and iPad - and @2x is made near effortless.

I hate hate hate this design, don't just make it taller!! it needs to be wider too! If this is the next iPhone then my iPhone 4 is the last ill buy.

Apple would never do this

I don't think apple would change the height of the phone without changing the width. Maybe enlarge the whole phone slightly, but they wouldn't change the proportions of it. Also I thought the iPhone 4/4s' shape was based off of the golden ratio to make it more appealing? If they increase the height, they will lose this shape and it will look ugly like the mockup. And that metal panel on the back is just terrible and would definitely be a step backwards for Apple. Just my opinion, I am still probably going to buy it no matter what changes are made. :)

This would be a huge fail.
Apple must compete with the market with something better or else they will loose buyers for sure.

Just have to state, whether you like the mockup or not, that was a lot of work done by the artist(s), especially the 3D model. I give them props, it's good to acknowledge the effort someone else has done. :)

OMG SICK MOCKUP!!! I love it!!! I don't se why most people on here don't like it... I would be ready to buy it tmrw!!!! :)

----------

I think you're probably right... unless it has a 5" screen! :p (I'm just kidding)

LMAO
but my bet on the next iPhone is that it will either be called the new iPhone (which I hate!!!!! Cant believe they did that for iPad) or iPhone LTE which would make sense... 3G, 4 to let people think it's 4G and LTE.

iPhone LTE would be good. but yeah people need to STOP CALLING IT iPHONE 5!!!!!!

landscape keyboard

You can argue all you want, one way or another, but the fact of the matter is there is no real way to avoid the fact that using a landscape keyboard on a phone like this would be a total pain in the ass. Either you keep the shape of the keyboard the same, display it full width, and have a sliver of a screen to work with up top (not usable at this point) or shrink the keyboard down somehow and center it in the screen, either way it's not exactly elegant usability. I don't doubt that Apple has built this protype, but unless they come up with a good solution to the fact that a long and narrow device will be a PITA to type on when help in landscape, I doubt it's The One.

I just want to see less bezel like everyone else. Also a more ovular home button on the bottom. and more metal if it protects my phone from drops: I care about size- not weight.

Please no!

It is just about the right size as it is. A near perfect compromise. If anything, it could be a little bit smaller. I have had every model so far. If they make it bigger, it will be uncomfortable for me to carry and use and it will probably be the first iPhone I don't buy. If I want a bigger screen, I will use my iPad. Unless they make that smaller. What a total crock all of this sounds like. So the rumor is they are going to make the iPhone as big as some tablets and make the iPad as small as some phones. Fortunately for all of us, it is probable that neither rumor is true.

This is actually much less ugly than I thought it would be. Might even be viable... maybe... I'd have to see one in real life. But, it's nicer than many of the other mockups I've seen with different screen ratios...
