You do realise there will be no software update and possibility for feature enhancements for the iPhones right? It is a dead device, stuck to run whatever software it comes with.

Wait - this doesn't make any sense - Jobs said the advantage of having no keyboard is that you can add/remove features/buttons down the line. He said this explicitly in his keynote. If they need to update the iPhone, they will through iTunes, just like the iPod is updated today.

You and the damn iPhone...your comments are obnoxious, really...

Definately:
-External HD
-New headphones (most likely Grado SR-60)
-Headphone Amp (or parts for building my own)
-nike+ipod

Maybe:
-2gb of ram for my MacBook
-Leopard (I'm fine with Tiger, not impressed by the currently released info about Leopard)

Aperture (Getting very fed up with iPhoto and I want to start taking RAW photos)

I don't know about Photoshop, but I think Aperture is a great investment. I bought it a few months ago, also with a student discount, and it is fantastic. I disliked iPhoto because it was too simple, inadequate for my needs. However I also disliked the idea of trusting my photos to its internal database. I bought Aperture because I could maintain my own directory structure that I've developed over the years. However I soon moved all my photos into Aperture (only about 10 gigs) and couldn't be happier about it. The only thing I dislike is that the automated method for editing a photo in Photoshop uses tifs or psd files. You can't save back to jpg if you want, thus using this method creates a lossless 40 MB file that an amateur like me really doesn't need taking up space. The work around for this is to export a version, edit that in Photoshop, re-import the now-edited file, and delete (or group) the original file. This is a pain though, and Photoshop annoyingly resets some of the metadata, most annoyingly the time and datestamp. I hope the Apple peeps add another option for saving back to jpg. Even with a 120 gig HD, space is becoming a precious commodity.

To this end, and especially if you're going to buy Photoshop CS3, you might look into Adobe's new Light Table, or Lightbox, or whatever they're calling it. I understand it has similar features, and it's likely better integrated with Photoshop. It might even be the better program. Regardless, competition between the two is good.

Apple Purchase's

After 13 years with, PC's, something Apple to run Aperture, (clueless as to what, any Notebook idea's for a newbie), i-phone. Been loving Apple since my first and only Apple product, my 2 year old Shuffle. Must admit, i-Tunes simply rocks, and this is coming from a 58 year old Apple Newbie.
Why did Apple go with Intel, instead of AMD? I don't game, just built a PC using a AMD Athlon 64 3700 Single core on a ASUS A8NSLI Deluxe w/ 2GB OCZ Silver Ram, and WD Raptor 10,000RPM HDD and it flies, smokes, how much speed do we need???. Just wondering how much I'll miss the tinkering.
Love to here from any of you with thoughts/idea's

Cheffy Dave

An inexpensive networkable B&W laser printer
iLife '07 is a maybe. Bought '06 not all that long ago.
FileMaker Pro 8.5 Developer if I can justify the cost and work won't buy it for me. 5.5 is getting a bit old.
A couple thousand dollars in attic insulation, two outside doors, and a new furnace for my house - my heating costs are killing me.

Not very likely:
A new PC (my old P3 600 that I played around with was stolen from my storage locker last summer)
A new Mac
A new car
Aperture

Work: 9 PDA's with FileMaker Mobile and 9 portable printers. I'm hoping I can find a way to put together a paperless solution to our inspection reports without having to purchase all the test gear myself.

First mac or macs ever:

1) imac 20" but waiting for Leopard/ilife/etc...
2) Possible macbook in fall (if the imac is fitting in with my life) plus take advantage of the likely macbook incentives for back to school

In the mean time I will be using you all for advice and to snoop around for info that will come in handy soon.
