Have you seen the inside of a Benz? It's one of the most expensive car makers in the world... They're definitely going to pay close attention to everything. :)

Yes, have you.

I've been in
- 2006 ML350
- 2004 E500 4MATIC
- 2000 E320 (Drove it too)
- 2002ish C240 4D
- 1997 C230 4D
- Current Style SL500 (haha my neighbor got it has a loaner when his E got attacked by deer- seriously, attacked)

I have also been in a lot of other luxury cars, including a rolls. I didn't find the design of the interior to be particularly amazing, its just the fact that the car is basically hand made that amazed me.

I can think of a lot higher level car makers in the world- Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Maybach. I am not going to say mercedes are crappy cars, their interiors far surpass BMW's design wise. I find BMW interiors to be made out of high quality products, but they are just ugly aside from the new X5 and 7-Series.

Being in an SL500 I assume its pretty similar to the SL55AMG. Its a nice interior, but its so monotonous. All the other mercedes have generally similar interiors and I don't find it to be very cool or unique. I am not gonna start a fight about this because this is purely taste, but for $140,000 I would want to see something a little more unique and modern. I am sure that many of the dials, knobs, vents, etc and just shared with other mercedes models.

I know this is comparing apples and oranges- sports car vs 5000lb SUV, but this is 80,000, and I have yet to see an interior that looks anything like this. I think its very unique in styling, and has a very modern flare to it yet offers warmth.

It's a silver SL55 AMG (not 65), I believe.
They also have a silver E-class, as well as a white Volvo station wagon.
They don't seem to upgrade their cars very often -- have had those for years.

I live a few miles from them.

I often drive an S65 AMG (not SL), and have to say the engine is fantastic. The V8 S55 is probably pretty good, too, and hopefully slightly better on fuel -- the V12 S65 is ridiculous on fuel.

Many of the venture capitalists around Silicon Valley drive Maserati Quattroportes or BMW 650i; occasionally you will se an Aston Martin DB9, and Porsches are everywhere. Jobs clearly went for something classic, elegant, and refined, which I think is actually much nicer at his age -- doesn't scream midlife crisis quite as loud.

PS -- I wouldn't be surprised if he put in an order for a Tesla Roadster.

I don't care about anybody's reasoning, but to me, no one can dis Lexus. I'd take a Lexus any day over Rolls, Maserati, Maybach... Anything. Steve should have an SC 430 instead of that Benz...

I thought Steve was an environmentally conscious person. What the hell is he doing driving a gas guzzling sports car?

....hmmm, should I have even bothered asking that?

Supposedly his car was caught on Google Street View, I've no idea where though.

Couldn't of, Google street view doesn't go around the Apple headquarters (I checked :D ). It's probably google earth.

He's probably parking in a handicapped spot to show he's rebellious still, like in the 1970s/80s.

Park Different :apple:

Don't the choices say a lot about the people though? Gates with his old money goes for a classic 911 sports. Ellison goes for the ultimate in luxury. Steve goes for the best mix of cool and comfort. Dell for something brutish and utilitarian.

And Ballmer goes for something that looks like crap :D

Great post dynamicv (especially the part about Ballmer  )! :D :) :)

SL to SC?

awesome pick... from boring to dull...

^^^No idea, but if that's the case, I don't like how Steve thinks he's above the law. Clearly that can't be legal.

My guess is he has a magnetic attachment for his plate so he can slap it on and drive away.

You're ****ing nuts. You'd rather take an ugly-as-sin mass-produced Toyota over a hand-built airliner-on-wheels (Rolls of Maybach)? If you prefer to drive yourself in über-luxury, there's Bentley and Aston-Martin.

Lexus.

i doubt he spends the time. seriously, im sure that he doesn't even get pulled over or ticketed often. go somewhere like newport beach/coast or beverly hills, tons of people drive around with no plates (and speed) because even if they are pulled over they likely wont be ticket. in the event a person like steve jobs is ticketed, what do you think? it ruins his day or something? he'll have to pay a fine! big deal. even if he got caught speeding whats the worst that happens? a point on his record! oh no his insurance is going to go up now! think it matters? use perspective people.

Hey man, Lexus are great cars. I drive an rx330 and it's amazing. Plus, Lexus service is really good. Hope to get the GS someday. :)

the fact is the current lexus stable (even though they have some promising new models) is very high end. a true luxury or sports car is a different beast. however, i dont agree with people that say "no, if you had a bunch of money youd totally buy an expensive car." there just are people that like cars and some dont. some people can have a ton of money and not buy an expensive car because its not something that they care about.

Mhmm, I would definitely take a $50,000 mass produced toyota with a somewhat cheap looking hackneyed interior with a badge that says "Lexus" over a hand built custom made 5.7L twin turbo 0-60 in 5 seconds 6000lb solid piece of metal and wood and leather Bentley.

yeah... and some people dont wipe their... opinion.

its not so much he doesnt have taste because he like lexus over other cars. he obviously has a point at which he feels there is a dimishing return for his dollar in terms of quality and luxury. he has no taste because he like the sc430.

can i ask what the American obsession with big cars is all about? Here, a Hummer H3 is a wanker's car. It towers over everything else on the roads. The sad thing is about it, it has less power, less torque, less pots, a smaller engine, and uses a crapload more fuel than this car, the basic Holden Commodore.

There isn't one. Everyone (mostly) hates the H2 (H3 is ever worse). A real H1 on the other hand is bad ass (military grade anyway) seeing as it could drive over a land mine (with detonation) and continue going. But yeah, otherwise the big SUV thing is getting old (at least that's what I notice around here).

And seriously now, a Porshe Boxter?? Come on, that's the poor mans Porshe. That's the kind of Porshe you buy just to say you own a Porshe without having to spend much. Get something with some balls on it! At least a Carrera S4! Weak. I've lost all respect for Mr. Dell.

Most military grade HMMWVs are not able to drive over a land mine and continue operation. There are some versions that are uparmored that can withstand that kind of attack and keep the passengers safe but even those will often be put out of commission by a landmine.

he has no taste because he like the sc430.

I don't like sports cars, they're inefficient and usually pretty damn ugly; I just picked the SC since it's their hardtop convertible, since Steve seems to like that...

EDIT: I love how when one says no one can dis something, everyone here tries. Shows some real maturity.
