A Lexus is a great car, but is not a cool car. You say you drive a Lexus and well they look like Toyotas or bad imitation of German cars (and dont tell me they dont copy those cause everybody knows that they do), on the other hand driving a MB AMG hand built car is wow that is cool and we all know Steve is way too cool for a Toyota...

No wonder the car industry is in such a bad state. People have awful taste in cars. American Built BMWs= appaling build quality, the old shape X5 1999 to 2006/7 is awful. Lexus=reliable, tacky, disgusting. Have u seen the wood trims in a lexus. Shocking.

Steve SHOULD DRIVE
Maserati Quttroporte
Jaguar XJR or XKR
BMW M5/M6

Why does the inventor of the ipod drive a merc? Mercs have sooo many buttons on the dash.... Idrive is the way forward. Jaguar have the best touchscreen system ever.

Or why doesnt he drive a DB9. What a fool.  Mercs are hideous, crap, awful. All of them. apart from CLS.

Thank goodness he doesnt drive an american car.....

the 7 series is a bit bland. Maybe he should get a 535d. He would become addicted to torque instantly.

idrive>Clickwheel... Huge simalarties.

I think Mercedes' are very nice, except for the CLS. The CLS is hideous.

I agree with your comment that Steve should drive a Quattroporte. Without plates of course.

Too. Dizzy. From. Different. Fonts.
Can't. Reply. :D

I disagree that he shouldn't drive American. What's wrong with a 70's Mustang? Aside from the lack of safety features...

I'm not going to join into the bashing of people's ideas of particular cars. Everybody has their opinions, right?

About Steve's car. It is indeed an SL AMG (I'm pretty sure its a 55, the V8). I recall reading somewhere, I think on Forbes.com, that Steve is a Mercedes fanatic. One of the first cars he bought once he was making serious money with Apple was an SL (must've been a late 70s model, quite horrid ). I agree that its not really a good car for somebody so into the design of everything. He should be driving an Aston Martin DB9, which is probably the best looking car money can buy at the moment.

Also about Bill's Porsche. Its not a 911, as opposed to a comment made earlier. Its actuallly a 959 which is a super-rare hypercar Porsche built during the 80s. Its similar in perfomance to the Carrera GT which was produced a few years ago. From what I can remember (also read this on Forbes) the car was never officially imported to the US, so Bill and Paul Allen both imported one but consequently were never allowed to drive them on the public road due to some stupid restrictions. It took years before the car was eventually legalized, and I think Bill still has his to date.

I take it you've never used the iDrive system before. I can tell you its absolutely ghastly. The turny knob thing is a decent enough idea, but letting a bunch of anal German engineers design an interface is the worst idea ever. It it is utterly unintuitive, which makes it very dangerous to use. I can imagine Steve would go crazy even trying to use something like that.

I love how you state these things with no experience to back up your argument. People with money(for the most part) dont want super flashy cars because they draw attention.

And as for BMW and Mercedes you are just flat wrong.

One more thing the Quattroporte (which you spelled incorrectly) is a thrashy and panicky vehicle on the road, and yes I have driven one.
Bottom line is keep your garbage uneducated opinions to your self.

What did you think of the gearbox?

It's my "dream car". I went to the dealership to check it out. It's $185,000 USD + ~$20,000 USD per year in taxes for the right to own the car. That's not even counting insurance.

One day....;)

steve jobs' merc is like one of the only cars in california that is allowed to not have a license plate.

as for handicapped parking, thats not legal. although i saw his car in cupertino and it was parked in a regular space

/\ you're wrong. steve jobs is not exempt from having plates.

in other news... a db9 drives like **** which is totally unfortunate because its an otherwise stunning car, but its poorly engineered. as far as a maserati, they are giving those cars away because they sell so poorly and fiat doesn't even want them anymore. as a brand they are a failure in recent years.

if steve really wants to drive something special he should get a 250 GTO or something.

I'd have thought he'd go for something a little more understated. Like a Zonda Roadster F.
Oh that's just crazy talk. So outlandish ;)

Back in partly sensible land...

If he really likes the Merc, he should at the very least have a McLaren Mercedes SLR. Bankers and footballers drive SL55 AMG's.

I just cant get over the fact that the top dog of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, drives such an awfull looking, vulgar! It might suit him perfectly, but if you ran one of the most profitable corporations in the world, you'd want something a bit special? A Lincoln? I dont know much about american cars , but that does look gruesome.

He should get a Maybach- ugly, vulgar but it does have exclusivity.

I put a pox on your house if you dis the Aston Martin DB9. And i frown at the person who dissed the Jaguar XJ.

If I was Stevo I will trade it for an Audi R8...

The R8 is a gorgeous car, that's definitely a car in the class of his SL55 and very exclusive seeing that they're practically sold out for the next 3 years, maybe Steve is on the ordered list.

Im shocked at the stubborness of peoples opinions here. How can you criticise Jaguar. How on earth can you say anything bad about them. We used to own a present model and the old one 1999 one and 2005 one. They were both awesome. Awesome is infact an understament, they were beyond expectations. AND considering the crap treatment they get from FORD, they have done very well..... Lets just not mention the X-Type;)

And we also had a 5 series and idrive is brilliant, it had its flaws but its simplicity is superb. The QUATTROPORTE, sorry sir for spelling it wrong, i have not driven one unlike u as i am only 17 but who cares how it drives, its about passion, Jaguar and Maserati have passion, unlike MODERN american cars. I do have a soft spot for old mustangs and the new Ford interceptor conept but 99% of what come out of an american car factory is crap. Even rover who had no money what so produced pretty decent things. eg rover 75.

If there is any more critiscism I will be glad to answer is as best I can and if you want, I will prove anything you want me to.

One more thing, Jaguar or a Cadillac, I think its a pretty easy answer.

are you kidding? jag and maserati about passion? I have experience driving/owning a ton of these cars you're talking about... heres what your overlooking...

jags (and any british marquee) is nice and luxorious until it has electrical problems, which it will (same goes for the range rovers with jag engines).

maserati was an effort by fiat to cash in on the popular GT class of cars. they represent anything but passion, and talk about slow...

bmw M's are counted among my favorite cars of all time. Its hard to discredit those cars. additionally, ironically enough someone called the old bmw x series bad cars but they (especially the x5 4.6/4.8is) was an amazing suv to drive. and since no one can talk about bmw without talking about idrive... you either love idrive or you hate it, its not even worth discussing its merits because its such a polarizing system (which itself could be seen as a design flaw) but i like it.

and I don't know why you mention cadillac but I'm assuming you haven't driven one lately (or any gm car) because they are a joke of the automotive industry. the xlr? please. v series? ha.

the r8 is a pretty car but its far too slow for the cost without the 10 cylinder.

now a ccx... thats a car.

p.s. i stand by what i said about the DB9. if you dont believe me. drive one. it was one of the saddest days of my automotive obsession.

p.p.s. billg (he acutally owns a 911[i think its a green '99 911 vert] and a 959) and paul allen (among a few other lucky americans) each own a 959. it was legalized by a federal law. 959 owners used their influence to have the law passed.
