pompous a**holes...i.e. when someone asks a question that is responded with a sarcastic, superority-complexed remark posted by someone who was probably picked last in dodgeball in gradeschool.

Sorry that some people don't know everything there is to know...if that weren't the case, there would be no reason for forums, correct?

yeah..

I agree wholeheartedly.

Also, not that I "hate" this, but the community feel has decreased a lot. I think it's wonderful that Arn can quit his job and do this full time, but I think the popularity of the sight has led to a more negative community. And I think this is the reason that older, more prolific posters have left.

A real bummer. But such is life.

I also don't like the marketplace post limit, I do understand the need for it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I don't hardly ever post because on most subjects I know other people on this forum know more than me and have better answers to most questions. I've been a member for 4 months and only posted 12 times, and even then I feel some of those shouldn't have been posted. At .09 post/day it will take me 2777 days to just view the marketplace (I don't want to buy or sell) but I do like to know a rough estimate of what I could/should get from selling my technology to friends/co workers. I know people are still going to say "post more" but....in this same thread people are complaining about inane posts.

Is there anyway that perhaps the minimum for viewing the market place could be changed to 250 posts+180 days, or 50 posts+1 year or something?

Also people complain about people not using the search feature, but perhaps people make posts asking questions that have already been answered previously to increase their post count. The only advantage about using the search feature (which i do) as opposed to posting a new thread to ask the same question I see is just avoiding the posts that say "use the search feature," while not using it raises your post count.

The market place isn't viewable to newbies because then you could private message someone who is selling something and it would be more likely that a newbie is ripping them off.

Yeah I know, and I can say I wouldn't do that, but you have no reason to believe me, and besides this forum is not just me and many other people I suppose would do that. I have no real solution for that problem, and I assume that the 'powers that be' didn't have any other solution than the current market place rules.

Is the 250 posts+180 days or 50 posts+1 year a viable change tho? I'd gladly wait another 8 months and post 38 more times, but posting 238 more times seems so....out of reach. I normally only come to MR on the weekends. I work 10 hr over night shifts fri, sat, and sun night, and spend I'd say an average of 15 hrs per weekend reading over the forums, but rarely post because my knowledge about apple is very limited, and I use the search feature instead of posting new threads to gain knowledge about whatever I have questions on. Again I know that doesn't improve my reputation on the site (not posting) as it doesn't help people get to know me, there are many times I've thought about posting, but my views tend to be very controversial and I'd prefer not to post than to get involved in an argument so I tend to only post regarding factual information rather than opinion and as I don't know that much about Apple compared to most people on this forum (the first Mac I got was my 17" iMac and I use it basically as a toy for watching tv/movies and don't get into too many aspects of the professional use of it) so I don't get involved in many threads but I do enjoy reading them. So, perhaps some form of quality over quantity could be imposed on the market place without causing it harm?

People who put their name at the end of every post as a signature. That's that the SIGNATURE area is for.

I *really* hate all the badgering to use 'multi-quote'. If I want to read through a thread and respond to posts individually as I come to them, then that should be good enough for MR as it is for every other forum I'm on.
I just do regular quote/reply to all the posts I want in a thread, then merge the quotes up in one message box before posting the reply.

I don't hate anything about MacRumours, but it would be nice if there was an option for more that 40 posts per page (100 would be ideal), and a way to search the forums from the main news/rumours page, rather than just the main forum page.

My gripes are the design and integration of the site. It is very clear that the site is run on of the shelf board software as it just does not feel integrated with the stylings of the site.
And i don't like the positioning of the search feature and how it only searches the forum and not the entire site.
However i love the community here and the people, found most to be helpful and friendly though sometimes it feels a little like high school but people being different does not bother me. Though people that demand others believe as they do does very much bother me, thankfully i have not seen to much of that here.
I love the sometimes rather daft rumors that come and go and inspire such deep debate though sometimes it seems like people think Apple are working on a quantum flux slipstream drive for the next iPhone and that this means the death of all Mac's as Apple can't possibly run more than one project. Following from that matter i hope non to many of you have forgotten but the same things have been said about every iPod model and how this will kill Apples interest in the Mac but its worth a good read for the laugh and i am sure some readers and posters are thinking the same.
So i like a few things, love a few less, and dislike a couple things but not enough to say i hate anything that term is reserved for use in thing that truly deserve the term hate.

"iPhoneites". You know the ones I'm talking about, where the majority of them have most of their posts in the iPhone forums, and will say anything to protect theri oh-so-precious phone. (Even worse are the ones who don't like Macs; yes, there are a few of them)

In fact, let me expand that to fanboys of any type. Mac fanboys, PC fanboys, iPod fanboys, whatever, I hate them all.

And for some reason, the majority of them seem to wind up on this site. That's my only complaint.

Supporting hacks, on a sight this large, would be way beyond the norm of one indivicual, even for arn.

If you will look above Search Forum you see the single word Search. Use the pull down, Advance Search, and cover as few or as many of the Forums as you wish.

I wish the forum spy would freeze when the mouse is over a thread, it never fails as soon as I go to click on a topic the list scrolls down and the wrong topic is clicked.

There is a search field with a button called search forum nothing else and it is in a place that says to me it was an after thought in the design.

Ha ha, I just did this trying to get to this thread. Ready to see what people are saying about their dislikes and the next thing you know, I am reading about the Chinese versus Americans in the Olympics.

The bottom circle is the Search This Thread (or Search This Forum, if in Forum view).

It is the top circle that allows full access to all Forums and Threads.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the search field that is present on every part of the site but only searches that section instead of the entire site. The Search feature you are showing in these images is only for the forum and again goes into my comments about the sites integration as you can only login using the forum and access the user control panel and such if you are in the forum section of the site when most users expect the site to be one application that works the same and has the same basic features across the hole.

It goes without saying...

but, I hate spam. Everybody does, but I feel the need to say it! I HATE SPAM!

....especially in the update threads. Fun one liners like, "Downloading now!" and "Great! Way to go Apple!" and "It's snappier." You have to sift through 4-5 pages to find anything useful if there's problems or successes. I guess some do it for the glorious Avatar that they can have. Well, pfft for avatars!

I also hate drive-by postings. Someone that'll pop into a discussion, post an off the cuff response then disappear instead of defending their position. (Political forum).

The only people who don't like the Marketplace rules are the ones who can't use it yet, and frankly I imagine that matters very little to those who want to use it in confidence. There are good reasons for its restrictions and it's not too over the top in its requirements. This is not Ebay, the Marketplace is a perk for MR regulars, it's not a right to everyone.

Those who are having trouble with the search, here's another idea...

MRoogle

(advanced macrumors searching using google. it's good stuff)

:)

Good luck with that. I am pretty convinced that the design you are seeing now will stay the same well into the year 3000 unless a major disaster hits the servers hosting macrumors and wipes out everything. Want to use thread tagging? Sorry, not possible, still running on vbulletin 3.6.

I requested this feature may be 1 year ago (for example digg spy has a play/pause button that can pause the spy) but to no available. Responses were like usual; "meh"...."works for me"...etc.

Reread babyjenniferLB post.

I don't really like the Hackintosh or the hacking iPhones crap. I have no interest (or sympathy when things go wrong) so I just ignore the areas of the forum.
Now if only Hackintosh had it's own section I could add that to my ignore list and never have to see the word again!

I hate the ways threads just disappear for no reason... like the "Hi.What do you do when you surf online ?" thread...
