Now that i think about it. I might just get the 4S, unlock it, and sell it before the iPhone 5 and use that for the iPhone 5's purchase.

Regardless, i know that i won't be content with the iPhone 4S as a customer.

Anybody know Tim Cook's email?

I'm only 20 - but guys, can we remember the privileged lives we all have to be able to be angry over the release of a smartphone? You might be angry if they release a 4s and you were waiting for a 5, but you have food on your table and a roof over your head. Try to put things in at least a little perspective.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

My predictions:
iPhone 4s doesn't exist. These are test models with iPhone 4 shells so they don't draw attention.
iPhone 5 with the actual newly designed shell only stays on apple campus.
October 4th we see a redesigned iPhone 5.

Doesn't exist?
I thought so, but not after chronic leaked the iPhone 4S case package.

If this is going to be iPhone 4S, IDK what to do.

When you think like that, everything is great, and innovation is useless. Unfortunately, the world isn't like that. You should know, that I know that i am privileged, and i don't complain about this outside this forum, believe it or not, people have a life (i hope) outside this forum. But we're talking about iPhones here, and talking about how frustrating it would be to see a 4S release.

Do you have an operational and fine iPhone 4? Then yes, Apple only expects the gadget heads among us with decent amounts of disposable cash to upgrade. There is a reason why people sign up for two year contracts, it is because they expect their phone to last two years. If your iPhone 4 has broken or if you are still using a 3 (or an original) then Apple is expecting you to upgrade. Just people replacing their iPhone 3G and 3Gs would be enough to make iPhone 5 a hit. If it comes out on Sprint with a cheap data plan (which I expect) then that will be another huge market. I still don't know if Apple can make enough of these to satisfy the global market. Are they going to be available in China on day one? Are we going to see parades of Chinese folks lining up to buy the phone here in New York only to ship it back to China to sell on the blackmarket? I suspect we will.

I just hope that when they announce it on October 4, they start selling it on Friday of the same week. That way I don't have to sit through fanboys and analysts talking about how it will tank and not sell because it doesn't have a new form factor. When Apple has sold through a million phones in the first weekend, that chatter will shut up.

If the 4s has a faster chip, better antenna, and better camera, which it likely will, I'll get one

I'm not sure. It might be a little negative. One has to wonder how they market this phone. Its got the 8mp camera coming, ok thats marketable, but so do a lot of phones and more. iOS 5 and A5 aren't exactly huge selling points to a general audience imo and they're expecting 25 or 30 million of these gone before Christmas? Who am I kidding, they'll sell that many regardless, but still the 4S screams lower end phone.

I think there will be 2 phones announced, the 4S available to buy within a couple of weeks and the iPhone 5 available in 2012.

Apple have left a huge timeframe between the announcement and the release date before, with the first iPhone they left something like 170 days between announcement and release

With no real iPhone 5 leaks, if Tim Cook pulls out a newly redesigned phone it's going to be shear pandemonium.

It's either the worlds best kept secret or the biggest disappointment.

I love the way you put that. So true.

Fully agree. We are either going to pleasantly surprised or utterly disappointed.

It sounds like a lot of people are basing their decisions on what it's called. Who cares what it's called? An A5, 1 GB RAM, bigger screen, and better camera would be a good upgrade whether they called it the iPhone 4s, 5, 6, or 9.4. Are people really saying they're not buying it if it's called a 4s regardless of what the changes are??

I think people will riot the streets if its just a 4S with a faster chip and an 8MP camera with the same body style...

All hell will break loose!!!

4S implies just an a5 and better camera in same casing

Hopefully its not a "4S" just to get all of the carriers on the same cycle. Verizon is behind ATTs "new" phone availability iphone cycle, if its a year.

2 Phones. 1 coming.

America will get iPhone 4G on the day of keynote.
Everyone else will get iPhone 4S (networks not up to speed and overseas).

iPhone 5 announced now, and shown in the spring. The goal now is to get lower prices and saturate the market. Then in spring go for the kill (at a higher price). Apple is going to go similar to tick tock w/Intel, but lower price, higher price, lower price, higher price every six months.

The 4G will be worth the upgrade unless you want to wait it out. source

The bottom line is Apple has everyone exactly where they want us. We are speculating over rumors about a phone that when it comes down to it, we really have no clue what we will be getting. Everyone is guessing, but nobody knows for sure.

Apple will not release a 4s only with minor updates, they know the backlash if that happens. If that were the case and there were delays with a 5, a release would be put off all together. This way they would just get whiny little biatches complaining about no new phone. It would be a much wider response if the phone has miner updates.

Expect big things, Apple has done a great job keeping it under wraps and can't wait to shock the world.

WHY!! Carriers don't do this when the latest and greatest Android phone comes out every few months. If a new iPhone comes out and you are not eligible for a full discount then you pay full price or early upgrade price.

because they've done it before...and yup, just for the iPhone. And I don't think it's possible to "upgrade" to android.

I see a lot of people complaining about it just being a spec bump with the 4S. But the ip5, it'd just be a spec bump in a different case, the only difference being the larger screen. Many seem to agree no NFC, no LTE.

So, for the sake of argument here...let's say they managed to cram a 4" screen on the 4S...just for the sake of argument. Those of you who are pissed about it being just a spec bump...would you be upset? Or is the design of the phone paramount?

How about this, if Apple changes the iPhone 4 design.. make it have rounded edges like all previous generations. If Apple adds a bigger screen, and also uses something other than glass.
Then yes, i'll take it.
