from the comments I've seen in this thread, it seem that people want to go back rather than forward. Headphone jack back and so on.

I would love them to realize why they became success again under Steve.

Getting rid of unnecessary product variants (iPad Pro, different iPhone sizes, laptops with and without OLED - bar. And concentrateing on making the few products they are left with all "pro".

It's not Tim's fault, that he has no vision. But the excessive and unnecessary product variations are. Same fault they have made before in the 90's...

You want to get rid of the iPad Pro? which is a great device (I love mine) and the different sizes of the iPhone? The 5.5" iPhone Plus is great (again I love my 7 Plus) and the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar that hasn't even been given a chance yet, since it's only been a couple of months since it's release. It sounds more like going back rather than moving forward.

Anything other than yet another iPhone 6.

Apple have been brutally complacent in every department over the past half decade (compared to the years before) and if there's an iPhone 7S I reckon it'll be the last straw for me.

We've had iPhone 6 for basically three years now.

People want the headphone jack back because Apple removed it... and the device didn't get thinner :S The phones are still thicker than the size of the jack.

Maybe if they've bothered to actually use the free space for something innovative then that would have been 'going forward' ... but really what they did was take us backwards to the 90's when phones didn't have jacks.

Meanwhile they introduced a $200 book about themselves. Utterly baffling.

Okay what I want and hopefully will happen
Mac:
  • Macbook Air: discontinued
  • Macbook: Keep the 12 inch but update it with new Kaby Lake processors and new GPU eventually with a TouchBar BUT introduce a new 14 inch with the same features as the 12 inch. So price point: 14 inch takes the price of the 12 inch and the 12 inch gets cheaper like (100-200$)
  • Macbook Pro: Let's get on with USB-C but make it a pro machine. Better GPU's (for god sake use Nvidia). Update it when Kaby Lake it widely available for it. UPDATE IT REGULARLY
  • iMac: Get rid of the HDD's. Use at least for the base a Fusion Drive (128 SSD and 500GB (7200RPM HDD). Let's get some desktop Nvidia cards in there like 1080 or others.
  • Mac Pro: Just a fresh update with the newest Xeon processors and newest top of the line GPU's. A machine that is also VR ready.
iPhone:
  • iPhone SE: Keep it around. It's a great phone just keep the update for March so it does not take the newest and shiny iPhone sales away. 64/128 GB for the same prices. For the rest just the newest stuff like the iPhone's in September got
  • iPhone 7S: New design, little price drop in EU and other countries where prices are getting insane in some places. Just some cool new features (truly wireless charging)

iPad:
  • Just some good updates
  • New UI for it not just a blown up iPhone

I don't think we will get another 6 design, I think we will see the iPhone 8 with a new design. I'm not going to knock the iPhone 7 I think it's a great device, the dual lens camera alone was worth the upgrade for me. I just think people expect new designs all the while and there is only so much that can be done for the form factor. With it being the 10th anniversary of the iPhone I don't think Apple will pass up the chance to release something new, maybe an anniversary edition or something. As for the headphone jack, I don't think it's needed in the iPhone, now that the Airpods exist along with other wireless options i don't miss it at all. I agree on the book it is a little over the top, especially at those prices, which is why I have not intention of buying it. But I do think Apple have created some great products, the iPad Pro is a great device as I've mentioned in previous posts, I still like the iPhone and the Mac I can't comment on as I'm still using a 2011 MacBook Pro and the 2012 iMac, both have been great.

I see people complaining about the lack of a touchscreen Mac, but Apple have said a number of times they won't do it because it's a bad experience, and I have to agree. Yet people still expect even after they have said a number of times. But if they had of done it and it was bad they would of got slagged off for it, so it's a no win situation I feel.

-Apple tv pro, 4K , with the power of an Xbox or ps 4. Dedicated game pad /controller.
-iOS pro that narrows the gap between an iPad Pro and Mac OS.
-iPhone with 5.5 inch screen and less bezel.
-AirPods with the ability to lower volume and pauze/skip, rewind, etc by Touch .
-new Bluetooth sound protocol with hd sound capabilities.
-Add a hd sound Apple Music service.
-don' t bring back the headphone jack, but include wireless charging in the iphones, so you can charge and listen at the same time.

Nope, that's not what I meant.

All iPad should be "Pro".

All iPhone should have two cameras. And there shouldn't be three different form factors and designs.

All MacBook should have a touch bar. And there should not be "budget" variations.

There should be less product variations and all of them should be great/pro/whatever you want to call it.

I find most of this thread interesting - it would make it more so if Macrumors would "summarize" the serious suggestions - for instance there are a lot of stop making it thinner make it more powerful type comments - how many - what %

I go back a long way with Apple products - my first was an Apple II (so the only earlier people are those few who got an Apple I which really wasn't a public product). Many of the Cook is bad we want Jobs back comments are for things that Steve Jobs started - like closed not upgrade-able hardware and we are going to do it our way tough if you don't like it.
It was "easy" for Jobs starting from nothing to get to where he led it - it is much harder to continue to make break though products with mature devices. I'd think that better than 90% of smart phone users don't use 90% of the features on their phones. Folks it is a phone and not a super computer. Do I think they blew it with the new MBP with limiting memory and battery to keep it small - yes they did. Did they blow it with eliminating all standard ports so they could be brave - yes they did.
Do they still sell millions and millions of phones yes. Do they have much work to do on desktops and laptops - yes they need to support touch and they need to have more power and more battery life. They sill have the best integrated environment and no one is close.
Do they do it their way - yes and I think that is great. Do they need to get better and change some emphasis - yes.

I would love them to realize why they became success again under Steve.

Steve Jobs is only as good as the people working with him. You give him waaaaaaaaaaaay too much credit. As an engineer myself it kind of pisses me off.

You know I still find the haptics on my iPhone 7plus home button amazing! The "real" home button on my SE feels clunky in comparison. Simply amazing.
Having said that, and knowing the new track pads on MacBooks have similar technology, it would be nice to get virtual trackpads for iPads and iPhones. I mean especially for text input and editing. That's the only time I miss a keyboard, is with precision positioning of cursor and the likes. Deep pressing on the keyboard on the new iPhones is pretty cool, and that's a start. When I switch to the SE that's where i really feel the need and appreciate deep press or whatever it's called.

On an iPad, use two fingers on the keyboard to turn it into a trackpad/cursor thing when editing text.

The MBP SE, what I'd love to see. Mentioned it before, will again.

Take the 2011 frames (make new ones of not a lot), sans the optical drive since yes its gone and I accept that.

And in it place 3 item wish list.

1. A second internal drive. see many makers doing this...and this in fact a common modification done on the 2011 and earlier. Apple 3rd mainstays like OWC even had a a nice kits all ready to sell for it. Custom bracket and all.

2. A better real video card

3. 32gb of ram.

Not greedy here....2/3 would make me happy. And the space created by optical removal has for sure shown it allows at least one to happen.

Lets end the anorexia. I was a happy owner of a 2011. Its not a lead weight. And spacious...I don't mind weight when it gets me something in return. Plus maybe we could see a real ballsy active cooling system. Imagine a world of where even benchmarks sees thermal cutoff pushed out to further time frames. But but the fan noise. But but...look at those processing times.

Wear headphones, do what I do and play an xbone when I have FCP apply a filter/plugin and it will be an hour easy. Make more appealing noise the take away there. When too many threads are seen in MBP section going omfg the fans came on wtf do I do...? we have issues. Fans are like sweat in a workout. It means you are pushing some limits. Its a good thing. Me...my fans have been on for hours a day processing video. Its a good sound, it means old girl is working hard. And when silent...cool, she is done. Let me wrap up my game right quick for phase N+1.

then we can see how this war plays out. How many would pay for this heavier MBP wth some more balls to it says the supporters of the anorexia trend? lets make it and see.

I know most of this will never happen, but...
  • All MacBooks have a large trackpad that will accept Apple Pencil for input
  • Standalone keyboard with Touchbar
  • An Apple designed external GPU / expansion chassis for MacBook Pro
  • A new Mac Pro design reminiscent of the old all-in-one enclosure that will accept the newest high powered GPUs
  • New iMac with user replaceable SSD/HHD slot (since it's a desktop, ultimate thinness is unimportant). Why shouldn't I be able to upgrade the SSD/HHD myself?
  • Apple Watch that can be left "Always On"
  • iPhone with better battery life
  • A way to turn the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil into a true "Wacom Killer" (Astropad is pretty good, but I want an Apple solution that is hardwired between the iPad and MacBook Pro with virtually no lag)
  • Improve the Photos image editing ability

These are really on spot wishes but apple wont deliver, sadly

Fair enough, i see your point. But with the iPhone there is variation in the size because not everyone wants a 5.5" iPhone screen and the same with the 4.7" version so i think it's a good idea that they have done that, the same goes for the iPad Pro really.

I'd like to see a re-focus on the entire Mac line, with updated Minis and Pros. And I'd like to see them continue to develop the iPhone SE, keeping an option for a smaller form factor.

The smaller form factor iPhone with all of the same capabilities of the larger sizes. Slower clock ok for battery life, but has to have the same sensors camera, etc.

I agree that Apple does need to kill off the MBA. It's redundant. They could also do a 14" display for the MB but that seems redundant since there is a 13" already. I say stick with just selling the rest of the MBAs and discontinuing them.

I don't know all of the technical limitations that kept Nvidia cards from being used in MacBooks. I think everyone agrees that Apple should update the MBP regularly. I think the first order of business is fixing the battery life issues of the MBP already on the market.

We've covered what we expect to see from Apple in 2017 based on the rumors that are circulating so far in our recent What to Expect post.

On the horizon are a new iPhone 8 with a radically redesigned body and an edge-to-edge display, a revamped iPad Pro also potentially with an edge-to-edge display, long-awaited iMac updates, and new software, but there's always the chance there's a wildcard update or new product in the works that will surprise us all.

A redesigned Apple TV, a new home hub, and augmented reality smart glasses are all products that are rumored to be in the works with no prospective release date. We want to hear from the MacRumors community -- what are you expecting or hoping to see Apple release in 2017?

2017.jpg

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 11, tvOS 11, watchOS 4, or macOS 10.13? Popular wishlist items from last year included a dark mode for iOS, home screen widgets, and a customizable control center.

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check our our What to Expect post for the latest rumors. Apple's plans for 2017 will likely become more clear in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering all of the rumors in-depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also always a rich resource for talking about upcoming products and rumors, and with the biggest iPhone change in years set to happen in 2017, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions.

We'd also like to thank all of our readers and our forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source for Mac news and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to another rumor-packed year.

•More resources for the Mac and macOS development. Greater support and transparency for developers.
•Stop abandoning important products that people greatly depend on. Like the Time Capsule, Mac Mini and the Mac Pro, Applescript, Aperture, Shake, etc.
•Stop sacrificing resources for thinness. Form over function has taken you from the leading edge onto the bleeding edge. A skinny MBP/iMac with a "high spec" CPU quickly loses its usefulness if it is constantly down throttled due to overheating. Re-address the balance you once had in your products.
•A renewed and resolute commitment to power users. Look at the workstations that HP, Dell and BoxxxTech are offering and at the very least match that. Dump the MacTube design, it is cute and shiny, but an utter hindrance to the requirements power users are asking for.
•Less (far less!!) focus on turning the brand into a fashion symbol. Remind Angela Ahrendts she isn't at Burberry anymore.
•Get retail pricing back under control again. Most of us aren't getting any richer these days. It's a big problem, for you, too, eventually.
•Re-shuffle of senior management. Tim Cook to step down to his previous position and beg a visionary like Elon Musk to take over. Schiller & Ive are unapologetically ripe for retirement. Eddy Cue should do the honourable thing by resigning. Think about bringing back Scott Forstall, Tony Fadell and for goodness sake, hang on to guys like Sal Soghoian.
•Greater emphasis on environmentally friendly products. Stop designing them to be disposable to further pad your already disproportionate profit margins. The vast amount of natural resources you pull from the earth to create your products directly translates into an enormous responsibility for the environment. Wether you, or your shareholders like it or not, this is universal law, ancient and inexhaustible.
•Stop talking about Emojis as if they are a noteworthy feature. It's embarrassing. Better yet, stop adding more. We are drowning in them as it is. Instead, kids (and many adults) need more help with things like grammar, spelling and vocabulary. It is highly doubtful that Emoji are where the puck is going. Reading and writing skills however are always important.
•Less cringeworthy and nauseating keynote speeches please. They are becoming unwatchable. A room full of developers don't want a rap-along. Tim, please stay off the stage entirely and get Craig Federighi to do the job.

What I suspect we'll see is:
•Mac Pro (silently) killed off.
•Moderate iMac updates (probably still with Fusion drives) with significant price hikes.
•Lots of waffling from Tim about the amazing products they can't talk about.
•Emoji & watch bands to fill the gaping holes in Apple's release cycles.
•Political manoeuvring in the US of Trump.

Happy New Year.
