Exactly. Duo core is another gimmick for phones. So they are micro seconds faster. Whoopee. Are they going to make the call quality better, no. Will my apps operate significantly better than they do now? No, because they already work well. Will my text messages be somehow amazing? No. People think that duo core is somehow super technology that will dramatically change their phone experience. Its such a scam to get people to buy new phones every year.
Well for me the main thing is improved battery life with dual cores which is huge.

100% agree. My phone history: iPhone 3GS, Nexus One, Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S), HTC Inspire 4G, and iPhone 4. I've done the whole shibang, rooting, custom ROMs, all that junk. (atleast) Rooting is basically necessary to have anything close to a good experience.

I disagree that rooting is necessary, especially nowadays.

I've only done it to play around with older phones, and never had to do it on my Incredible.

Curious: What did you root for ? And do you also always jailbreak your iPhone?

"now days"? I got that Inspire 4G like a month ago. Trust me, nothing has changed.

You haven't modified your Inc.? Have you ever had your SMS messages completely wiped, randomly? Common problem.

Anyways, my reasons for rooting/custom ROMs (besides overlocking, tethering, ect.):

-Screen capturing (all phones)
-usable calendar (Captivate)
-get rid of lag (Captivate & Inspire)
-bloatware (Captivate & Inspire)
-working GPS (Captivate)
-save more space on measly internal storage, stop getting low memory warnings every two seconds, and be able to send SMS (Nexus)
-stop SMS drafts from deleting theirselves (Captivate)

Those are just some off the top of my head. There's tons more than that I could list.

And do you also always jailbreak your iPhone?

Nope, I don't. Not really a need to.

EDIT: I feel like adding some more problems I've had

-phone screen randomly turning white, then doing a reset on itself because it was "corrupted" (I hadn't even done any modifying to the phone at that point. It also happened multiple times) (Inspire)
-the screen would stop taking touches while it was charging (Captivate)
-no working GPS (Captivate)
-Micro USB port came loose (Nexus)
-Screen will randomly stop taking touches in specific areas, at random times (Inspire)
-no freakin' software updates from the carrier/manufacture
-fragmentation. Seriously.

Holy chili con carnage, are you serious? It's a no brainer!

short answer: Infinity Blade and Cave shoot'em-ups.

long answer: Infinity Blade, Cave shoot'em-ups and Nanostudio for audio crafting on the go.

Games make one OS better than another? lol. I would agree that it is a slightly a benefit ;) not for a lot of people though!

lmao wow, just reminded me of all the force closes, crashes, GPS issues (OMFG) and lagginess I've had with Android. My EVO and Epic both had their fair share of problems, not to mention the latest update to Epic (which finally got 2.2...........about a year late) which killed the modem on my phone. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

After SGII was released, it seems that the iPhone is actually killed this time.

People say the android is laggy, sg2 proves wrong
people say iphone has the best screen, sg2 prevails again BY A LONG SHOT
people say iphone has the best camera, sg2 gets 1080p recording
people say flash destroys the browser experience, sg2 dual core proves wrong
people say sg2 is ugly with plastic, yet very few americans have actually seen and or felt one. THIS WILL BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND A 5 FOOT FALL ONTO THE CARPET AND NOT SHATTER

the only thing that is arguementative right now is the appstore. But now android has NFS, asphalt, angry birds-3 (regular, season, rio), fatbooth, etc.

and btw, i have an iphone and always will. The only thing iphone has going for it is the status symbol. That truly is the only reason i still and always will have mine. Stop bashing android, its grown exponentially to where it is even with the iphone. The tablets for android suck, dont bring those up.

I knew I should have picked up Troll-B-Gone at Walmart when I was there last night and I forgot. Now look what happened :(

iOS has apps.... Droid doesn't

iOS doesn't have a fractured base that Droids have now. So just because you have one of the Droid clones, it doesn't mean that NFS will run on it.

So this is a double whammy. Droid has less apps, and those apps don't run on all of the phones, so your droid can only run some of the apps.

BTW, what resolution does the iPhone 4 record in? I know it's "High Def" but what specifically?

720p

iPhone 4 is garbage without jailbreaking it. I assume rooting will be much better...

At least iPhone 4 without JB has a consistent and manageable experience. Some of this Android phones are downright annoying to use with or WITHOUT root.

One thing that Android doesn't have (not yet) is the iPod part. This means the whole iPod ecosystem, including the iTunes store and the "made for iPod" accessory, even car stereo compatibility. I have tried playing back my Nexus One via different car stereo's USB, and none of them work, while any iPod/iPhone is pretty much plug-n-play.

You're confusing a phone and an OS. The Nexus One is just one phone and Android is an entire OS that is on a lot of different phones. The different phones all have different features as determined by the manufacturer of said phone. That said, I've had a Nexus One and had no problem connecting via usb to my stereo (though I prefer to use A2DP). I have also tried it with a Nexus S, an Evo, and a G2X and had no problem connecting via USB either.

What exactly we mean for iOS?

I guess it's more about the interface and the user experience. iOS (and smartphones OSes in general) is a transparent layer on top of a myriad apps that provide the basic functionalities. What makes a real difference, if you want to use your device for practical tasks, are the apps. As we all know iOS is very strong in the games and music categories to the point that I consider my iPad as a console (top notch games...almost) and a portable synth (music software on the go is starting to rival the desktop behemoths).

Well, of course I've not considered the nerdish and geekish needs

Everyone android user has an iPod and a cellphone. I have an iPhone with a built in iPod :D Ask android users amazing their music player is and the second they stray to pandora slap them in the face :p
Do you ever say anything not angry or derisive? troll.

Withstanding a 5 foot fall onto carpet isnt that impressive. Android still lacks the user experience. My iPhone works all the time and I don't know anyone running an android device that can say the same. I also find it funny when android people brag that their device works smoothly now that they have dual-core. Yeah my iPhone works smoothly without it.

Android is FAR behind in:

1. Smoothness(no SGS II, even though it's amazing does not change the lag), no hardware UI acceleration.

2. Lack of animation and UI consistency and overall UI looks are considerably behind iOS.

3. No guaranteed, on time and unified updates.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to address all three above weaknesses, how well Google executes it though, is to be seen. Till the above is fixed, I won't consider any Android phone, even Galaxy S II.

I don't think so. I think Apple's A5 processor that is in the iPad 2 would be perfect for the next iPhone. It has definite speed advantages, and doesn't make much of a difference in battery life. What is the disadvantage?

The droid charge is not verizon's flagship phone, neither is the thunderbolt. These are just phones they came out with that have similar specs to phones released last year on sprint (4g) and now they have 4g on Verizon. Verizon has not released their flagship phone yet. Their flagship phone is the Droid X2. And I won't even get into an iphone comparison with you because that's apples and oranges (no pun intended), though the iphone 4 is about a year old it is still currently Apple's "best phone". All I'm saying is if you're going to try to make a judgement on an entire OS based on lower end phones that "just came out" then you aren't going to get a true representation. Hell the Nexus One came out before the iphone 4 did and it runs better than the Droid Charge. Put it this way, what you did is akin to going to the store picking up a computer with a celeron processor and a bunch of crapware running on it and then saying the OS sucks. I try to be a bit more objective when I'm approaching things, that way I give everything a fair shake and try not to miss out on things.

Sorry pal but the Thunderbolt is Verizon's flagship phone. No phone, not even the iPhone 4 has gotten as much advertising as the Thunderbolt. TB advertising is EVERYWHERE!!! The DX2 has only the Tegra 2 and qHD screen and everything else is last years tech. Heck, the DX2 was released without any fanfare or advertising. Came out with a whimper. That is not what you do for your flagship device.

I knew I should have picked up Troll-B-Gone at Walmart when I was there last night and I forgot. Now look what happened :(

It doesn't last. They get used to it. You need to get the good stuff; like that explosive stuff they use to remove stumps...

Android has come a long way, they will continue to improve and I hope they do too. Competition is better for us consumers, pushes companies to be more innovative and offer better products.

Thats what i been trying to say. Apple or Android is not paying anyone to promote. Just enjoy the devices and demand more.
