Uhm, I just want a mic.![]()
I see a mic almost as a 'given'. Apple does need a mic and while they are at it, please include an internal speaker.
I truly believe this is a piece of hardware that all users are going to use, this should be an 'easy in'. An iPod has always been missing being able to record audio. I use my Creative Zen as a voice recorder, and it gets used a lot just for that sole reason. It replaces a voice recorder that I may need for work - It's great.
...let's see it in an iPod Touch

If Apple adds a camera, and the data capabilities people are whining for, whats the point of the iPhone? How can most justify buying it? Camera? Common across devices. Network? Well people are convinced it will come with 3G for app downloading. So toss Skype on there and you have a phone. Oh and GPS? Yeah, people think that is coming to the iTouch also. So the iPhone is useful how? How does that justify the $225 vs $700 price comparison? Think people........
I love the speculation people regurgitate here with no fact to support it. Its funny. Everyone is so convinced so many things are coming through the pipe. Front facing camera, camera on the iTouch, matte 3G S backing, 3G on the iPod Touch. I will just sit here and smile every time the new devices are released, but avoid posting links back to my previous posts that state there is no way Apple will implement these features, and saying "I told you so". Just remember, every time Apple releases a product that doesn't have a feature you wanted, think about how uberamd tried to convince you that it wasn't going to happen in the first place.
Isn't there already an internal speaker in the iTouch 2nd gen?
It doesn't need a camera, and it really doesn't need GPS. Most modern phones come with either. If you want to carry less, then just ditch both and get an iPhone. I am firmly in the "it's an 'iPod Touch', not a 'iPhone Almost'."
I would like the Adobe Flash. I don't have an iPod Touch yet, planning on getting it after the summer but know people with the Touch and have heard them say about things on the internet that need Adobe Flash and that makes sense to me. A camera isn't necessary as most people have that on their phones. GPS sounds good.
Most modern phones come with address books, calendars, and internet access. Actually, quite a few of them play music too, so why have an iPod at all?

The iPod Touch is really missing these feature to bring it in line with the iPhone. This could theoretically happen very soon:
- An oleophobic screen.
- Additional storage, 64GB would be great.
- Improved graphics chipset
I personally think it is missing:
- FM Radio
- Expandable storage (Apple will never do this)
- Improved speaker
- Screen customisation (Black is a boring background Apple...)
- Better App management
- Decent network video streaming for those who ownTV's or who have bought lots on the iTMS through their computer/laptop.

I'd like to see …
Keynote running natively on the iPod touch,
the ability to send the keynote via video-out to the beamer,
the ability to control the presentation with the remote.
We pretty much settled this last year. I'm surprised the argument is still going on. All I'm going to do now is wait until September when the touch and nano may get cameras (they appear to be right about the iPhone part).I really think that the naysayers who are always saying "the iPod touch is a music device" no longer have an argument. The device is a multimedia device, to the max. It's not a phone, so let's be clear with that. As such, 3G, which is commonly associated with phone contracts, may be unlikely (though yes, I know a few netbooks have 3G out there). However, anything else is open territory for the Touch. So a camera, video camera, compass, iPhone 3G S - like performance, GPS, bluetooth, etc. etc. is possible. The other argument I am tired of is the whole iPod Touch vs. iPhone "product differentiation" argument. The iPhone already has 3G, voice, and texting, via a cell phone contract. What more product differentiation do you need?![]()
It's an iPod. Its not a camera. Its not a video camera. Its a music device that plays applications. The calling for a camera is silly, as it just makes no sense having on one on a iPod touch. Unless of course you want the device price to skyrocket like the $700 iPhone costs. The iPod Touch is .33 inches thick, iPhone is .48 inches thick. The camera is pretty tall so it would add thickness to the device as well.
Makes no sense. And yes, I own a iPod Touch and iPhone. I don't see why you don't just admit you want the iPhone, minus the phone calling ability for the same price of $200. Thats what it boils down to. Good luck.
These arguments have existed in one form or another since before the iPod touch was released. This isn't true anymore. It is not 'just an ipod', it is an all new computing platform. Constraining it to be 'just an ipod' is a mistake. Not everyone can get an iPhone for various reasons, and the iPod Touch should be a close second.
