The worthy movies, I purchase (Bluray, not streamed) and watch them on occasion. I've had an urge to watch Inception. Still making my mind up about an Interstellar purchase. Actually I need to watch it again. :)

Yeah, most of my purchases now are digital. It's a rare movie that I buy on blu ray. For all of my enjoyment with Captain America The Winter Soldier, I bought it digitally. Worthy movies indeed.

agreed.

i also really like the last crusade...

Last Crusade I can roll with...

>>>

Last Night:

we caught the end of The Sting - I love this movie. It has taken me a very long time to realize that so many mainstream films in the 70s were great. People were spoiled for choice, you could walk into a theater and come out entertained. Now, it's more spectacle than story and character.

Men in Black (still funny as hell umpteen times later)

and we watched Star Wars (I won't call it episode 4 etc.) I always liked Mark Hamill's performance but I really thought he nailed a teenage kid perfectly.

MiB- Outstanding (the first one).
Star Wars Ep4- Saw it 4 times in the theater.:)

Interstellar

I must say that I was impressed!
Great story, great acting, great visuals, but what really stuck with me was the music score.

Movies can have great music scores, but it's rare that a great music score fits 100% with a movie, even with a great movie.
With Interstellar it's 200% on the spot.

I like the Sting a lot but think Butch and Sundance Kid indefinitely better. Love the ménage à trois with Newman, Redford and Katharine Ross!! Have you seen it? I'd guess so... :D
Not enough Newman / too much Redford in the Sting for me...good and entertaining movie though.

I finally saw Gravity last night. Good flick. It reminded me how incredible and truly awesome it is that man has been able to go to space and return. I couldn't help but ponder what it must have been like for those first space travelers. Think about it, the entire process of zero gravity, oxygen consumption, space flight, and re-entering the earth's atmosphere, was all theory. What a remarkable adventure.

I thought Clooney and Bullock did a great job with their characters.

Have you seen 'Moon' by any chance? If not I'd give it a shot, awesome movie!
I didn't watch Gravity since Clooney and Bullock turn me off but maybe I should give them a chance as well. :D

I haven't seen Moon. I'll have to check it out. I think you should give Gravity a shot. It is arguably the best performance of Bullock's career.

I'm more of a Redford fan myself, but I really enjoy both movies with a bit of an edge toward the Sting; I think I just cannot stand the ending of Butch Cassidy even though that had to happen. :)

First MiB - Agreed. It is so much fun. Embarrassed to admit I had to see it 2x theatrically to "get it" - I missed so much including all that great NY style sarcasm.

Star Wars (the first one), 13x in the theatre. I only saw Empire 2x though.

Dude, that's excessive... :p

I'm not a Clooney fan, he's always Mr. Clooney (calm, debonair, underplayed) in every role I've seen him do. "I'm off to die, you get home safe (wave)!" ;) Maybe some of these other movies I've missed he has bared his soul.

It's A Wonderful Life (1946)- A gem of a Christmas movie, Jimmy Stewart's best role. Mr. Potter lives! ;)
I hold this and the 1938 Reginald Owen Christmas Carroll at the top of my Christmas movie list.

interesting IAWL trivia article for those who like this movie. :)

Had to watch Donnie Darko again. Also, wanted a good laugh so I watched some of the Season 1 episodes of Chappelle's Show.

There hasn't been very many good movies coming out. I try to watch some of the new ones, but I get bored. The other day, I watched that horrid movie Serena with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. That was absolutely awful.

Ha, ha. Told you I get stuck on movies :) :p

I agree with you about Clooney. He's found a niche and stuck with it acting-wise.

Last night:

Well, I tried to watch The Dark Knight Rises again but not even Tom Hardy could maintain my interest - his Bane was fun. I am not a Batman or Nolan fan, but I tried to keep an open mind. No such luck.

Yep, I enjoyed Clooney as ??? in ER while my mom was watching it back in the day. But he's just one of those well known 'hollywood' faces that won't let me immerse within a movie. DiCaprio, Russell Crowe :)D) etc say hi.

Agreed about the Dark Knight Rises as well. Terrible and chaotic / confused movie. Did you stay awake until the Hathaway death-scene? Hilarious. I think Batman Begins is the only Nolan movie I can honestly enjoy. Not hating but really no idea what makes him that popular. A pity since Tom really made an excellent Bane imo.

Saw Vampyr two days ago, very eerie 30s movie. It helps seeing it the second time since the dreamy images and story can be hard to follow. But the eery images make more than up for it. I'd recommend it to everybody who likes Nosferatu and Dr Caligari.

Agree about the aforementioned Hollywood actors. I saw DKR once because of Hardy and promptly forgot it. I remembered why when attempting to rewatch last night. Nope, thankfully missed most of Anne Hathaway's 'performance' (I know certain scenes had to sell her as being a convincing thief but... - stops fingers from typing any more.) I also do not hate Nolan, I am just not interested in his films.

I've heard about Vampyr, sounds like a doozy. Glad you liked it.

Well, tbh I'm not even sure it was Hathaway (lol) or the other one, forgot her name and role (lol) - she was some sort of traitor dying in the truck by suddenly closing her eyes (lol).

No idea why they didn't went with a proper Knightfall adaption, maybe even a trilogy which are so popular right now, which could have been totally awesome with a lot of Hardy and a good story without any need of additional nolanization. Well.. *shrugs*

What's doozy? Sounds like a fun word.

I am Batman ignorant, but I will take your word for it.

Doozy Perhaps not the best application of the word but I meant unusual in a good way.

I want to smack Marvel Films for casting Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange. I like the director (Scott Derrickson), but *)#($)!*#!@ that casting makes me want to crawl into the dark dimension and sic Dormammu on Marvel. :( (Yes, I can be that kind of cranky comic book woman for a few minutes and then I turn into a pumpkin.)

Watched SkyFall last night. Love that movie!

Image

I should watch that movie again. After the first 2 DC outings, I left this one feeling a little deflated.

Watched Skyfall (again) and it was better, pretty good, but not as good as the first two. :)

Observations:
-it could have been called "You Only Live Twice". ;)
- Bond is looking old or tired. I wonder how many more Bond films he has in him?
- Shangei makes China look like a wealthy city.
- Raoul Silva (Jarvier Bardem) was a good but unusual, tormented, and sympathetic villain.
- House in Scotland, looked it up, really a set in Surrey. :)

:D

Knightfall is a (very) long 90s run, expanding over three huge tradepaperbacks. Looks somewhat dated but I like it. Never collected Batman, or DC to be more precise, but the covers were awesome so that stuck and the whole buzz in general about it - so just got the collection a year ago.

You get the whole background story of Bane, his arrival in Gotham / set-up and final confrontation with Bats and Robin up to the famous break ya back scene. Bats retires and Azrael takes his place while pushing Robin aside.
Lots of good conflicts as well as general 'moral' questions about to what extent one can deal with evil while not crossing the line yourself as well as the steady corruption of or by power. Entertaining read plus Azrael had a kick-ass batman suit! Dated, but still. Good contrast to the classical bat-suit which wasn't the walking tank-suit it became in Nolan's movies.

At this very moment I'm about 10 minutes into "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies".

Never heard of it, any good? Sounds like a comedy.

Sharp vehicle, can't believe they shot up the old one in Skyfall. Wait they did'nt. It was a disguised 928. :)
