Currently watching Whisper of the heart. It's a studio Ghibli anime of my daughters choosing. A little hard going for my taste, but if your a 13 year old girl, it's quite charmingly done.
Film 4 has been doing a Studio Ghibli series, so we have quite a few saved up on the hard drive.

Let me know what you think of it.

Orson Welles was an astonishingly gifted filmmaker, but this is one of his works I have never managed to get around to see.

There is some mild controversy about this film I've learned. One is that Orson Welles acts with an Irish accent and it sounds terrible, with which I have to agree. The other thing is that many people weren't happy that Orson had Rita Hayworth dye her hair blonde for the film. The concensus had been that Rita should have remained a brunette. That doesn't seem to matter to me so much, though she does look better as a brunette.

As for the plot, so far so good, as I'm still in the middle of viewing it right now.

Yes, I have read about Orson Welles's atrocious Irish accent in that movie. The thing about Irish - or UK accents - is that to sound right, they have to be regionally rooted or authentically grounded in a particular social class - or mix of same. In truth, there isn't really a generic 'Irish' or 'British' accent.

Well, re Orson Welles, and Irish accents, he actually not only ought to have known better, he should have been able to do a lot better.

This is because he had actually experienced the real thing, for he had worked in the 'Gate Theatre' - which prided itself on introducing challenging and modern theatre from continental sources to Ireland - as a young man under the tutelage of a pair of the most dynamic individuals ever to grace the world of theatre in Ireland, Micheál MacLiammóir and Hilton Edwards and where he had mixed with, and worked with, some of the best theatrical talent that Ireland had to offer at the time.

My Fair Lady- both ends of the English accent sprectrum! :)

Now I'm on to viewing Waterloo Bridge (1940). Vivien Leigh is one of my favorite actresses.
During WWI, believing her fiancé to be dead, a young ballerina loses her job and is forced to turn to prostitution.

Continuing our anime theme, we watched The Cat Returns this afternoon. The sort of film that leaves you wondering if the producers were on LSD!
Following it up with Kikis Delivery service. Not great either tbh. But my daughter is loving it!

Kiki's Delivery Service is my second favorite Ghibli movie after Totoro - - they're both masterpieces.

BTW, Ghibli's next movie is being released in North America next month. Here's the trailer for When Marnie Was There.

Well, I finally took the plunge and rented Interstellar

Boy, let me say, how bad this movie was. It started off promising, but as the movie progressed, it just got worse and worse. I wasted 3 hours of my life that I want back. My expectations were low, as well, its not that I went into seeing this movie with lofty expectations.

I thought I was the only one who hated this movie. Glad I'm not alone...

I prefered it over The Cat Returns, but still not really my cup of tea. Anyway I was watching it for my daughter and she enjoyed it.

Watched Noah last night. Some cool special effects, but overall I didn't enjoy it very much.

I wanted to see this, at one point, but as I read more about it the movie, I saw that they added things into the story line that is out in left field. Then there was Christian Bale's comment about Moses being 'barbaric' and 'schizophrenic'. I can't see how the movie could be enjoyable based on those items.

Are you confusing Noah with Russel Crowe and Exodus with Christian Bale? I've not seen Exodus yet, but I've heard the same things about both movies in regards to adding things to the original story. The writers/producers of Noah did certainly add some stuff from "left field" to use the same terminology as you.

Both films add something extra to the film, that I personally don't enjoy. Sure the visual effects are cool.

Exodus tries to have this realistic approach to the story, which takes a bit of the myth out of the story itself.

While Noah, tries to add too much fantasy to it, that left me scratching my head wondering why they took that specific approach.

Luckily, I went to both pre-release screening as winner of competition (the magazine seemed to like my both phrases), so I didn't pretty much cry for spending my money on a ticket in both movies.

Took the fam to see Home. Amazing looking animation, dragged a little in the middle, but had a heart-felt ending. thumbs up

Saw Furious 7 last night with a buddy. Non stop explosions, fighting, crashing. Lots of cars, lots of girls tushes, lots of macho. Edited like music video. You could tell when Paul Walker was CG'd and how they had to cut around him a little, but over all entertaining yet forgettable.

I must say I was really surprised that Furious 7 set the box office record for an April release. It's amazing how much hype the series as a whole has gotten. Though I've not seen the new one I have enjoyed the others that I have watched. Like you said, it's the basic action movie formula which is generally fun.

the cinematography/camera work isn't bad either but it still feels quite hollow (didn't care much for the characters) and also has serious pacing issues.
I remember checking the clock a few times.
I would even say that Russel Crowe is a mis-cast.

it really makes one appreciate some of the classic more. Ben Hur has a running time of about gazillion of minutes but having re-watched it on the weekend i have to say that it still is a really great movie.

The Artist and The Model (2012, French)- Atmospheric, subtle drama set during WWII. If "action" is important to you, there is no real action just nudity. I liked it. :)

Beautiful movie.

From IMDB Trivia : When Fernando Trueba discussed the idea of the movie with Aida Folch, without even a screenplay, Folch left everything in Spain and moved to Paris for a few months to learn French properly and be ready for the project.

Yes I appear to be - my bad

I saw Furious 7 the other day, the first one of these I've ever seen. Now I know why. It's amazing that a movie of this stupidity can get a script that will last two hours. I only saw it because my stepson had tons of points and took his mom and me to see it. Completely asinine. No plot, no point...

The Birdcage (1996)- A young man with gay parents wants to marry the daughter of a conservative politician. A favorite comedy! Outstanding ensamble cast. Nathan Lane, Robin Williams, Hank Azaria, and Gene Hackman.

Great movie, remember lots of laughing in the cinema when I saw it.

Have you tried the original French version (La cage aux Folles, 1978)?
Followed by a sequel in 1980 and second sequel in 1985.

Although I have to say that the birdcage was a summary of the three movies, taking some parts of all and toning it down while "Robin Williamsing" it up.

Man, I miss Robin Williams :-(
