I am so dissapointed by these comments! Was Spielberg involved in this movie in any capacity? That (him missing) might explain a weak script.

Regarding APlotdevice's comment, just watched the original Jurassic Park and have always a bit irritated how they told only a small part of the book because I think they felt the need for an adequate setup and the description of how Dino's were made, not wanting a four hour movie, while I simultaneously acknowledge what a good movie it is. :)

And I acknowledge the missing parts of the book have slowly found their way onto the big screen. Jurassic Park II- Girl and Compies, which was referenced on the mainland? Jurassic Park III- Aviary and trip down river. JP3 is pretty outstanding, minimal setup, right into some great action. :D

20 years ago I loved the book. I really like the first movie, and I'm okay with the second two. My youngest has been eagerly awaiting the release, and really we all enjoyed this one, too.

I don't care about the characters. I don't see much personal development. We were stupid before, lets do it again, but bigger. The whole storyline and plot are missing... personality. I'll watch it again.

Last night I watched About Time. Technically sci-fi, it really is an interesting study of a family and how they interact. Along the lines of Love, Actually, quite enjoyable, typical British humor and story. Much more happy and sweet than The Butterfly Effect. I still haven't figured out the point of the uncle, but meh.

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets (2007)- After being enamored with the original, as in plausible, this strikes me as over the top and consequently a dissapointment.

Wickerman is super creepy. Christopher was very unsettling in that. I won't say boo about it so you can hopefully be surprised.

Cool! Maybe I'll find a cheap copy somewhere.

Just saw Cantonen.. lol! Not sure, the english dub kinda ruined it, although still pretty entertaining but that was a bit too much over the top and cheesy for my taste. :D Had fun nonetheless.

On the fence to watch child44 (should be great!) and Victoria in the cinema this week.

Agreed. I really liked the first one, but Book of Secrets was a huge let down.

Thinking of finally renting American Sniper tonight. Been wanting to see it, but missed it while it was in the theaters.

We took the kid and his friend to see Tomorrowland last night. They liked it, kept talking about it. Was better than I expected, as I went in not even seeing a trailer for it. Kept getting a "Bioshock" vibe from the movie.

Just saw Jurassic World, and I have to say... meh.

It wasn't a terrible movie... it certainly had some exciting moments... but it lacked the spark of the first one, which it was clearly trying to emulate. It didn't help that the Dinosaurs looked so fake in closeups (CGI < Animatronics). Also I think they went a bit overboard with the references to the original. I liked the first few ones, but OMG they just kept throwing them in!

I did like that they brought back one of the minor characters, giving this person traits which were mentioned in the novel but left out of the movie. They also recycled several scenes from said novel.

Oh, and those plot twists towards the end...

Agreed.

I enjoyed Chris Pratt's comic hero last summer in Guardians of the Galaxy, but unfortunately you can see just how shallow his talent is when he plays it straight here. But the real problem with Jurassic World is the screenplay, or lack thereof. This movie is all over the place, racing from one half-baked idea to the next. Of course, that's probably why it's doing well at the box office - - there's a disturbingly large number of movie ticket buyers who believe that a good story distracts from their enjoyment of the FX and action. On the plus side, it seemed to be going over gangbusters with the audience members under 8 years old.

I love a good B-movie, and Jurassic World is definitely a B-movie, just not a good one. Too bad, because the whole theme park design was awesome - - if only they'd spent a nickel on a writer.

D+

I saw Jurassic World recently, and I agree with your reviews. Entertaining, but lazy. Why can't these big summer action blockbusters have decent writing as well?

I felt the same way about San Andreas, FF7, Avengers 2... All were visually stunning, but not much else was impressive about them.

As long as it's full of dinosaur mayhem, I don't care about the lines in the screenplay. It's not Orson Welles; it's a high-tech monster movie.

You got your wish! :)

Saw it today... I like it, mostly what I expect in a summer movie, lots of action, and there is a plot, nothing too complicated, that facilitates the mayhem. I felt tension as those in charge and associated with the park realized what was happening. I also like the militarized side of the organization and their bright idea. :D

For a comparison, look at Jaws. The plot: Big shark eats people, people hunt shark, pretty basic. What's left? How memorable, how cunningly dynamic is it? For JW: Corporation designs bigger nastier "asset" (love that neutral term to describe something very dangerous)) to pull in bigger crowds, except on the lines of Deep Blue Sea they get more than they bargain for, the struggle to survive. This image was one of the most shocking scenes, Just because you can design a Dino, should you create this kind of an abomination!?? Truly Horrifying....

:D:D:D

My critique is I'm not sure how memorable this will end up being because frequently, being short of an outright hit, I have to see a movie twice before I decide for sure. Technically it's good, but I saw nothing that really wowed me, gave me that emotional shiver of witnessing cinematic greatness, I'll give it a 7/10. :)

Whoa...after all these years on MR, this is the first time I've seen this thread. I'm a big fan of movies and I hope to participate on this thread often. I'm not fond of spoilers though so it was nice to see a few spoiler tags covering plot points. Is there a shortcut for that spoiler tag?

Speaking of eggs, you could also watch What's Up Tiger Lilly (1966). It's silly but I laugh out loud on occasion.. :)
This film is absolutely hilarious, especially if you watch it during one of those late night, everything-seems-funny-to-me, kind of nights. It's really clever and really silly. It has some really dated moments but if you can overlook that, and can appreciate the silly humor, you'll love it.

I watched Maps to the Stars on DVD the other night. What a quirky, interesting film. It's still ruminating around in my brain as I try to determine if I liked it or not. This is a character driven story, set in Hollywood and moves at a slower pace. It's the kind of movie that's like passing by a minor car crash; you're not sure what happened but you look anyway. Julianne Moore, as always, is terrific in this film and the direction, by David Cronenberg creates a mood that continues throughout. It's a solid film with characters that resonate afterwards. Has anyone else seen this?

HA! I didn't know how we did it now-a-days either!

Just got done watching "Jurassic World." I found the storyline to be predictable and thin. It was like watching Jurassic Park all over again, but in a bad way. In my opinion, the movie was too long given the lack of character development. And the ending came across as 'we have to hurry up and finish this movie before even we (the writers, producers, and director) are getting tired of this.'

In my opinion, this is one Jurassic movie that people can skip and not feel that they have missed anything worthy or fun, in regards to the dynasty.

Jupiter Ascending - Verdict: Bad. Very bad. Don't waste your time.

Pitch Perfect
(part 1) - Verdict: My wife wanted to see this so I went along. It was funny. Corny but funny.

Get Hard (Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart) - Verdict: Almost funny.

"Almost funny." hahaha. That's a great mini review. Would Jupiter Ascending be okay to watch on DVD without being considered a total time-waster?

Convienent spoiler tags are very recent with the new forum software. I predict you'll see more of them.

I imagine a joint would make the movie perfect! :D
