Saw this also over the past weekend. Yup all over the place but it was enjoyable. Don't forget Chucky, He-Man, Robocop, Freddy Kreuger, Halo players, Starcraft, that is all I can remember right now. We found ourselves looking for the cameo's more than really paying attention to the movie in some spots! haha.

There were a ton of car cameo's. Batmobile, Back to the Future, A-Team Van, Akira's bike!

wait, when did he-man come out? i thought akira's bike was the bike from Tron

You need to stay off the internet until this gets resolved ...

You can see him during the big battle towards the end you can see him on the right side of one of the main characters. Also lets not forget Gundam!

damn, i missed him. i have very good eyes. gundam is great. did you know that instead of iron giant it was supposed to be Ultraman but they had license issue so they put iron giant

Had a good time watching Thor: Ragnarok ! Really glad I gave that a chance after I got totally bored out by the first movie. Never watched the second one (there is one, right?).
Good soundtrack too, no surprise seeing Mark Mothersbaugh being involved as The Life Aquatic has probably the most fun soundtrack I know of.

So this was the inspiration for A Fist Full Of Dollars?

Cool.

Yep, and Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, is one of the [major] influences for Star Wars, his Seven Samurai is pretty much directly lifted by The Magnificent Seven, and both have his often used, amazing actor, Toshiro Mifune (also the star of Yojimbo).

Not to mention all his contributions to the film making arts, amazing man.

I really like Yojimbo ...

I might have to buy a few more of his dvd's...

Go for the BR's if you have a player - it's worth it!

Only Kurosawa movie I had to force myself to finish watching it (although not a bad flic of course, probably needs the big screen..) was Ran, which was supposed to be the other way round.
Or maybe I was just a bit tired that evening, dunno. Think I liked Rashomon and Spider-Web's Castle the best - they're all pretty awesome though.

Not made by Kurosawa but a movie I'd highly recommend for those that like his style is Harakiri by Masaki Kobayashi.

"An elder ronin samurai arrives at a feudal lord's home and requests an honorable place to commit suicide. But when the ronin inquires about a younger samurai who arrived before him things take an unexpected turn."

"BR" what is that...?

BluRay :D <- looks like a CD ;) put it in a thingy and press some button and get a sharper picture than with your DVD, which btw. also looks like a CD!

kidding aside: in general I don't care for the best picture quality - except for a couple of movies and Kurosaw definitely belongs to that category. Like Kubrick or some very personal favs that others wouldn't even watch if they'd get paid for it. :D

I have them on LD :D

That makes you a nerdy enthusiast in my book. I like it!

They don't look like CDs though, do they? I'm so young that almost all the disc-tech-versions-things I experienced looked like CDs ;)

Except those freaky floppy discs and their older, less potent relatives.

Mission Impossible Fallout. I actually enjoyed this action movie, one of the best of the franchise. Obviously there is little regard for the laws of physics or for basic human anatomy (not a single broken bone, all teeth still in their place etc), however the plot was engaging enough, the characters were quirky enough, and the humor was quite good.

Used AMC A-List to watch it.

The Shining’s cameo was incredible. Total nerdgasm.
I did like it, Tom did bust his foot filming his stunts

Who else is done with MoviePass? After the latest update pretty much telling us we won’t be seeing any big movies anymore, who’s calling it’s quits?

There’s a MP thread in the Community section. Sadly, I jumped ship to A-List.

They look like a CD that's the size of a vinyl album! I should shoot a pic just for fun :)

It never got mainstream enough to drive the costs down, so they remained a boutique sort of thing.

I used to go to a new/used record shop that carried them, new and used, had a pretty thriving trade volume, so I scored a few for MUCH less than you could even think about buying something on tape (which was the media type they were designed to compete against).

Laputa: Castle in the Sky(1986)

Great animated film by Hayao Miyazaki. Highly recommended!

I'm almost certain that the NorthAmerican version has a different "sound" track than the Australian version. At some points during the movie when i expect-to or remember dialog/music, i don't hear it. Very strange that they felt the need to make it different.

City of Gold (2015) As a long time reader of food critic Jothathan Gold’s prose (first at Gourmet, then for the LA Times) I just learned he passed away last month, so I decided to rent this documentary about him.

He championed the immigrant restaurant culture in Los Angeles, and you can see his fondness for the mom and pop shops especially if they were Korean or Mexican. Every restaurant review I read made the restaurant sound like a must visit. An interesting documentary.

Thor Ragnarok was the best of the three Thor movies - you missed nothing by skipping Thor The Dark World. I love that they made Thor something like his mythical counterpart (not the sharpest sword in the sheath), and adding bits of the Planet Hulk storyline was great fun. The use of the Inmigrant Song as Thor’s musical battle cry was inspired.

Plus Doctor Strange cameo.

Under the skin - this movie was horrible. i was so bored i fast foward half of the damn movie. the only good thing was watching scarlet johanson naked but thats it. this movie was very dull and boring, cant stress that enough. they just showed her driving around in a van picking up men then lead them to a black lagoon inside a building? i thought it was gonna be like the movie Species but no.

Eighth Grade. What a wonderful movie, and what an important subject! I think that every parent of school aged kids (or younger) should watch it.

This movie made me wonder if we, technological nerds of the 80’s and 90’s, have somehow doomed our youth.

Watched using AMC A-List.
