For a while it seemed like Heston got type cast for SciFi roles. Planet of the Apes, Soylent Green, Omega Man. PotA was my favorite preferring it over the Tim Burton remake which was also a quality film.
Yep and why not? :D

We watched those a lot as mom was quite fond of Mr. Heston. Apes is my favorite too. I like Soylent Green a lot more as an adult. It is quite unsettling: the sets, costumes and style of living made me think of the Communist Soviet Union. And I enjoyed the optical effects used to create the oppressive heat.

As far as Burton’s attempt at PoTA, the less I say the better, even with Rick Baker’s simian sorcery.

Just watching Searching.

I usually hate found footage type movies, this was a little different, it was mostly computer screens....but it was really good.

Game Night. Great cast, decent story, tons of laughs. Some of the laughs were very clever.

I've been watching several Hallmark Christmas movies with the wife. They aren't too bad, but seem to have the same plot.
That's because they have a low production value and go by formula. Hallmark offers feel good stories for people who enjoy that type of thing. Think I read an entire film goes from screenplay to finished editing in under 2 months.

Why do you think that jackass Sparks is so successful when all his work is drivel formula? If it sells, it sells.

Also I rewatched the first three Diehards last week. I'll give you one digital non-existing voucher to redeem yourself.

Introduced my son to one of my favourite cult films of all time. "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across The 8th Dimension". I still enjoy it as much today as I did when I first saw it in the theatres back in '84!

I’d like to know what is the best movie you watched this year. Doesn’t have to be a movie which was released this year, just a movie you watched for the first time this year. Your FOTY(Film of the Year)

i did not see many movies in 2018 but of the few i did Dunkirk (2017) was the best

It is like The Happening. People start killing themselves. They figure out that some kind of demon is causing this. If you look at them, you see someone you loved who died and then you kill yourself.

Can you tell us more about Bird Box? I almost started it yesterday. It reminds me of The Happening (2008) where there were mass suicides.

Planet of the Apes (1968)- I could not resist. It really skewers religious belief. :)

Roddy McDowell
I‘m trying to imagine how hot this was.
Among so many other things (racism, the Vietnam war, nuclear war, youth versus elder). Darn, I misplaced the early Cinefex magazine that features Rick Baker. His hippie PoTA style ape make up he did on himself was so much fun (and better than the work he did in Burton’s movie.)

But this is Rick in the Burton movie.

Thanks for Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets! I’m all in for swashbuckled sci-fi!

Just went to the theatre and saw "Aquaman". It was great! Everything I expect from a superhero/comics movie. Lots of character driven humour, well choreographed action and great cinematography. It captured everything I like as a comics and Aquaman fan! The story was great and it was obvious that the writers had taken the time to learn the characters backstories, and the elements of the canon. It was epic and much better than I expected! You won't be disappointed if you go to see it. Jason Momoa makes a good Aquaman in this iteration of the DC universe. He brings the character to life.

Just watched Bumblebee and Aquaman. I highly recommend both. They were surprisingly good. That and Michael Bay had nothing to do with this Transforners movie, which can only be a good thing. Bumblebee is set in the 80s and most of the robot designs mirrored the toys I used to play with as a child, instead of the unrecognizable crap in the previous films.

Watched “A Quiet Place” last night. Loved it. Thought it was a masterpiece. It reminded me of a mix between I am Legend and Walking Dead. I wanted to know more, like what the creatures were, where were they from and who was left on earth etc but the way it was made it didn’t matter about any of that. Very good and its a up from me.
