Wanted (2008)- A pretty good action flick, about an average guy miserable in his pathetic life/job, when he discovers his father was an assassin in a secret society, where the members are so skilled they have special powers. He is recruited to avenge his Father’s death because of his unrealized potential and skills. James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, and a young Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World).

I like the scene with the car door. At least if I’m remembering the right film!

There was a scene when Angelina Jolie is driving a red Viper and she spins it around to scoop up McAvery crouching in the street, without stopping? This trailer shows a glimpse of that scene:

This a movie adaptation that's so different than the original comic source material, it really only shares the name!

I can’t dispute that as I never read the comic, just enjoyed the story as told. :) But it makes you wonder why they do that and I have been frequently irritated when this is done to something I liked as a book/comic.

I think the most common use is that written events of a story is not always visually either appealing or replicable to have a proper impact.

I agree, except that if the story was a hit, and you are making a movie based on the book, that you have an obligation to the essence of the book for the fans you are trying to pull in, not betray them.

But I’ll also observe, movie makers can see an element in the book that would make a good movie, and they don’t care about the original fans of the book, they will come anyway, the movie will make money off them whether they are happy or furious.

And I have seen some movies based on comics that are pretty darn good, even if they don’t really follow the original source material. :)

Yeah, there were a few, call them, "cool concepts" they lifted from the comics, but it's an extremely twisted, very dark comic, that would've been complex to film, and probably had way less general appeal (I mean, it's HARD R material/content).

Spider-Man Far From Home (2019)- 2/5 I apologize for my comments in advance, but a big blah. I liked Spider-Man in the Avenger movie, but this story did not appeal to me, and seemed to get worse after the big reveal/twist. It’s not that it was a terrible story, but the execution seemed contrived. The original Peter Parker and Aunt May were better. MJ was completely mis-typecast. Peter Parker and MJ’s relationship was mediocre. Way too much inserted silliness to carry the story’s overall weakness. To much CGI even for me. Even many of the locations that I’ve been to in Europe (except Venice) could not save it. ;) And the original Spider-Man fly through the city visuals and music were much superior and more thrilling. :)

The Spiderman reboots are terrible. I like Tom Holland as an actor, but it’s ‘over the top’ they had to add in way to many comical theatrics, the CGI is kinda expected in certain genre of films today, but still, but both of them seem messy, The only Spiderman’s films I actually liked was with Tobey Maguire.

I did not like the second Peter Parker, and although the third one is better, he can’t touch Maguire. And those first couple of movies played up villains who were really victims and I liked that, but realize that angle could not go on forever or it would get stale.

The Nick Fury/shield aspect seemed a bit stale too after End Game. And I admit I’m still miffed about the blip/time event that bled over from End Game into this movie. I’d just as soon forget about that. 😝

And you probably know, I’m not an enemy of CGI, Avatar knocked my socks off, but I can be picky. It’s a concept here I did not like was that a hologram could knock out all reality, as in people could no longer see the real physical things in front of them. Those scenes were Peter was lost in a continuous flow of rapid changes of his environment turned me off.

Tom Holland gets Spider-Man absolutely perfect, the right mix of nerdy, smart (not just walking around with a camera ... building actual web shooters!), the age, love of his abilities, the snarky comments / quick wit, this coming from someone who followed the comic for decades.

That being said, I can understand liking his movies less, since they're less Spider-Man-y. He didn't get the benefit of an origin story, he was immediately integrated into the MCU, introduced in CA:CW as an Iron Man protege, complete with Stark tech!

The McGuire / Raimi movies got he pure origin which is always fun, classic villains, I mean, I'd say, Spider-Man 2 (2004), is one of the best comic book movies ever made.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)- Good story but sad most of the way though, especially the ending, besides the fate of the human race, a child robot who yearns to be a real boy and be loved by his mommy. An excellent description of how A.I could emulate a human.

Of possible interest I’m currently reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (1967, Robert Heinlein) which includes what I consider to be an amazing description of how a machine could achieve self awareness.

I’d say both 1&2 were complete splendor for this franchise. Yes, building the wrist shooters was true to the comic, but having built-in web shooters worked well and goes hand in hand with having been bitten by an exotic spider. :)

Stanley Kubrick: The Shining (1980)

A man takes a winter job as the caretaker of a hotel. Some time after moving in with his family bedlam ensues. Could the Native American burial ground on which the hotel was built have something to do with it, or is it merely a case of good ol' cabin fever? Watch and find out!

One of my all-time top horror films, this one. I'm sure that's the case for many people, but even though this film deviates in some ways from the source material (which scared the pants off of me when I first read it as a youngster), Kubrick, and the whole cast, did an amazing job with it. There's not much to be said about this film that hasn't already been said by someone, somewhere, better than I ever could, so yeah. The new 4K disc looks stupendously good, highly recommended.

I still remember the first time I watched this one, it was a VHS tape my parents had. One they told me not to watch under any circumstances, which given my age at the time was an extremely reasonable order. It also was a pretty good clue that I needed to see it, so I watched it in 5-20 minute chunks over the course of a week when ever they weren't paying attention. Have seen it with my parents a few times since then, they still don't know the story. Or maybe they do, but think that yelling at me some three decades after the fact would be a bit futile.

Still processing this one. First impressions... definitely inspired by Taxi Driver(1976) and The King of Comedy(1982). Phoenix’s performance was stellar.

However, considering the comparison to the aforementioned movies, i probably went into it with unreasonably high expectations. The acting, directing, cinematography, props, sets and script were all very good. The score was great!

Maybe this is Taxi Driver and King of Comedy adapted for a new generation? That’s a compliment. It’s definitely worth a watch.
I was most surprised by the contemporary political&social commentary woven into the movie. Didnt expect Hollywood to hold a mirror up to those “Occupy” and “antifa” protesters. IMHO

I don't know how this one has uhhh escaped me all these years as I've never yet seen it. But, I managed to get a hold of it today and am starting it now.

Erased (2012)- 2/5. Rotten tomatoes: Ostensibly, Erased is a 'thriller', about the ever-ubiquitous ex-CIA agen ("black ops as the movieoften reminds us) who is set up as part of a vast conspiracy, and the ensuing cat-and-mouse game.. blah.

Solteras, or "Ready to Mingle". On Netflix, it's dubbed. It would have been better with subtitles. I think it deserves better than it's ranking on IMDB. Maybe 7 or 8 out of 10. It did not have the expected ending.
