Atomic Blonde. Not sure why they did this, but with a great cast, and super violence, fun to watch. I loved the 80s soundtrack.
Pretty incredible fight scene.

Watched this over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it! The soundtrack is also really good!

I initially ‘knocked’ this movie, simply because I wasn’t a fan of how Suicide squad was portrayed [David Ayer sucks 😁], and I had a feeling maybe this movie Probably over exaggerated Harley Quinn‘s character. But, I think the saving grace is Margaret Robby is amazingly talented. (Reference her performance(s) in Wolf of Wall Street and Focus)

I know you’re a movie guru, but if you’re recommending it and it was good on your expectations, then I’ll give it a go.

Don't get me wrong is it the best movie ever... nope. It is good in my opinion and you are absolutely correct, Margaret Robbie is the saving grace of this film. However, Old Ben, aka Ewan McGregor is actually pretty darn good in it also!

Suicide Squad was nothing but trash, and I had somewhat high expectations for that one given who was in it.

No movie guru here! LOL... I just like watching movies. :)

Django Unchained(2012)
Django_Unchained_Poster.jpg

Tarantino has been hit-or-miss with me. I decided to give this one a chance after really liking Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood(2019). There are so many great things about Django Unchained; the story, production values, cinematography, dialog, acting, score, etc. IMHO it does a great job of transporting the viewer to a different time and place(a very scary/horrific time and place).

The acting was superb, specifically(and surprisingly) Samuel L Jackson's. So much so, that it was probably the first time a character in a non-horror movie "scared" me. Whoever Tarantino uses to film horse-riding scenes, does a fantastic job. However, "Tarantino-isms" came into play a couple of times which unfortunately yanked me out of the experience...
1. The soundtrack was spot on, except for a new-ish rap song that seemed very out of time&place.
2. A scene towards the end of the movie, staring the man himself(Tarantino), where he plays..... an Australian..... in ~1858..... in the antebellum south.

Great movie, and definitely worth recommending.

Great movie, and definitely worth watching.

Fine acting by DiCaprio in that one, especially the bit where he accidentally cuts his hand wide open on a glass and carries on. The look on the ladies face as he wipes blood on her is completely improvised lol.

LOL. This is awesome. Here it is 5:00 AM in my state and you posted a YouTube link of where I can watch the whole movie of ‘The Day Mars invaded earth’ that I can watch right here on Macrumors. (Yes, I was sitting on my couch in my living room watching this and wondering why I’m watching this, but then realized I had nothing else better to do at the moment, Plus; I found myself strangely intrigued how different acting was that many years ago.😁)

[P.S.- No one else needs to know this is how I started my day today.] 😁

Haha! I'm a sucker for classic science fiction movies like these, no matter how bad or corny they may be.

Hud (1963)- A drama about a Texas ranch family, set about 1960.
Honest and hard-working Texas rancher Homer Bannon has a conflict with his unscrupulous, selfish, arrogant and egotistical son Hud, who sank into alcoholism after accidentally killing his brother in a car crash.

Four movies I put at the top of Paul Newman’s filmography are this, Long Hot Summer, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Hombre. A fifth might be Cool Hand Luke. :)

Paul Newman sits at the top of my perception for male beauty. Robert Redford was up there too along with possibly Carry Grant, and Tom Cruise.

There are others qualities such as rugged, charisma, maleness, and on screen personality. (Marlon Brando, Steve McQueen, Sean Connery, Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas, William Holden, Humphrey Bogart). An actor who is not handsome but projects personality is Daniel Craig, but I admit that is subjective and I suspect there will be disagreement from the ladies. :)

Red Sparrow (2018)- 49% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. This is a good spy thriller, yes on the slow side from an action standpoint, but it kept both me and my wife drawn in guessing what the real agenda was. I kept thinking it was going to be a surprise ending, and it was, but different than I anticipated. What I don’t understand why half the audience hated it. Could it have been the people who read the book and the book was so much better?

Of note, Jennifer Lawrence‘s character who starts as a ballerina had a dance double do the hard ballerina moves. Link :)

I forgot the Verdict (1982)- which was also excellent, Newman playing an alcoholic, washed up lawyer who gets a second chance at a big case, and I love good courtroom dramas.

Alien Covenant [2017]
51FA8281-9424-4DDC-A129-1E093C269615.jpeg

I have a lot to say about this movie, but I’ll keep it condensed, because it just would give too much away.

Obviously, Alien has a very lengthy history dating back to the 70s, and this particular movie is directed by Ridley Scott, which this is by far my favorite ‘Alien’ In the Series after seeing all of them. (I’ve watched the 2017 Alien around a dozen times, it also is directly connected to Prometheus {2017} movie to any unanswered questions from that film.)

1.) Alien Covenant has some of the best CGI I’ve viewed in any film in the last five years easily. And the reason I mention CGI, If the viewer finds scenes that are two artificial, they won’t invest their interest into the movie, (where it takes away the viewing experience if that makes sense.)

2.) If you have a 4K TV/HDR, this also is one of the best movies I’ve watched with some really detailed sequences. There’s quite a few stunning scenes that take full advantage of 4K.

3.) The most impressive part about this movie, wasn’t really the storyline, (as there’s some still some things I think they could’ve added/changed,) But there’s zero bad acting in this movie. And that includes every cast member that doesn’t have to be a major role player name that we’ve heard before (Fassbender/Crudup), literally, every cast member did an excellent job. Katherine Waterson who plays as ‘Danny’ was amazing.

4.) The only thing I don’t like about this movie was the ‘opening sequence’. It has the tendency to leave Viewers not captivated from the beginning. But other than that, there’s some really intense scenes in this movie, more towards the beginning.

On a brief side note:

There was one ‘deleted’ missing scene from the Prometheus film that I think should’ve been infused into that film that included Guy Pearce and it explains his belief in ‘David’ as a robotic/artificial android :
