Red Sparrow (2018)- 49% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. This is a good spy thriller, yes on the slow side from an action standpoint, but it kept both me and my wife drawn in guessing what the real agenda was. I kept thinking it was going to be a surprise ending, and it kind of was. What I don’t understand why half the audience hated it. Could it have been the people who read the book and the book was so much better?

Of note, Jennifer Lawrence‘s character who starts as a ballerina had a dance double do the hard ballerina moves. Link :)
Sounds interesting; I'll have to look this one up.

@Relentless Power Nice write up on Alien Covenant! I quite enjoyed it too. I may go back and watch some of the Alien franchise this weekend, except for Alien Resurrection, which I did not like at all.

Alien Covenant [2017]
View attachment 905127

I have a lot to say about this movie, but I’ll keep it condensed, because it just would give too much away.

Obviously, Alien has a very lengthy history dating back to the 70s, and this particular movie is directed by Ridley Scott, which this is by far my favorite ‘Alien’ In the Series after seeing all of them. (I’ve watched the 2017 Alien around a dozen times, it also is directly connected to Prometheus {2017} movie to any unanswered questions from that film.)

1.) Alien Covenant has some of the best CGI I’ve viewed in any film in the last five years easily. And the reason I mention CGI, If the viewer finds scenes that are two artificial, they won’t invest their interest into the movie, (where it takes away the viewing experience if that makes sense.)

2.) If you have a 4K TV/HDR, this also is one of the best movies I’ve watched with some really detailed sequences. There’s quite a few stunning scenes that take full advantage of 4K.

3.) The most impressive part about this movie, wasn’t really the storyline, (as there’s some still some things I think they could’ve added/changed,) But there’s zero bad acting in this movie. And that includes every cast member that doesn’t have to be a major role player name that we’ve heard before (Fassbender/Crudup), literally, every cast member did an excellent job. Katherine Waterson who plays as ‘Danny’ was amazing.

4.) The only thing I don’t like about this movie was the ‘opening sequence’. It has the tendency to leave Viewers not captivated from the beginning. But other than that, there’s some really intense scenes in this movie, more towards the beginning.

On a brief side note:

There was one ‘deleted’ missing scene from the Prometheus film that I think should’ve been infused into that film that included Guy Pearce and it explains his belief in ‘David’ as a robotic/artificial android :

Inception (2010)- 87%/91% RTAS. Beautifully filmed, intriguing concept of sharing dreams for corporate espionage. Just go with the story and don’t question if you can. There are many elements of the story that can be questioned by the logical mind. :)

Giant (1956)- 87% RTAS. This is one of my most favorite Americana movies, blemishes and all about a 1930s Texas rancher and and his newlywed, headstrong wife from Maryland who wants to know when was being gracious towards the help an issue?

Well, it’s Texas... it’s the first time I heard the phrase, don’t you worry your pretty little head. :)This was 1930s Texas. Edna Ferber hit a home run regarding prejudice and Texas culture in her novel which was a big hit in Texas.

Incredible cast. Mercedes McCambridge, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean are fantastic. It’s hard to believe James Dean was 24 when he was in this movie and died in a car crash before it was released.

The book is based on the King Ranch, Kingsville, Texas one of the locations where I underwent pilot training, and where I met my wife, although it’s not nearly as bad as Marfa, Texas where the movie was filmed. Kingsville does have fields of crops that go to the horizon, but not the barren desolation of West Texas. :)

I grew up in Maryland close to Ardmore, Md where Bick Benedict (Rock Hudson) travels to buy a stallion and while I love Maryland this was definitely not Prince George’s County in the movie. The first part of the picture was actually shot in Charlottsville, Virginia, mountains in the background.

Kingsman: Golden Circle (2017)- 64% RTAS. Silly, over the top funny? No, silly not funny. The opening sequence was pretty good despite being completely unbelievable and I understand calculated grossness. :D The first Kingsman was a little better.

So I Married an Axe Murderer(1993)
A very 90s, light hearted comedy.

Any relationship to Serial Mom (1994)? :)

Over the weekend we watched "Wonder Woman:Bloodlines". It's one of the animated DCEU movies and is basically the animated Wonder Woman's origin story. It was very good and we enjoyed it! Last night we streamed "Code 8" on Netflix. A pretty good movie about a world where there are superpowered beings but they are persecuted. All in all it enjoyable and I would guess there will be a sequel. All the Canadians in SF where in it!
