There are moments when the mercenary and the kid become simpatico, but I’d still call it a minimalist effort. They make it clear up front that Hemsworth’s character is suicidal or borderline before the mission and he finds a reason to go out of his way to help the boy. I’d say there are just too many bad guys versus 1 to keep this feeling realistic but you can almost feel your adrenaline glans kicking in as you visualize yourself in the situation.I was attracted enough by the brief description and poster shot of the mercenary and the boy (on the Netflix website) to take a look at the trailer for Extraction. For some reason I really "wanted to want to watch" this movie.
But wow. "Hardcore action bloodbath in a sea of bodies" does seem to nail it. Think I might have to give the film a pass, although I suppose they packed as much of the action as they could into that trailer. Please tell me there are a few extended moments of quiet. I guess there must be, for the several remarks in this thread about the audio volume issues.
It's possible I'm getting too old to hope that some of the better scripts of action-adventure flicks made in the past few decades might deserve and get remakes sometime, with a little less attention to the endless gore and body counts. Would be nice to have deeper development of the characters whose scripting is now sometimes so constrained to portrayal of committing or enduring violence --in between dashes of lust, regret, confusion, tenderness or whatever else it takes to make the next epic slaughter scene appear even more addictively dramatic than the one before it.
My apologies to cast and crew of Extraction if --and as I do wonder-- my impression of the film is wrongly based on the trailer possibly having presented a brutally condensed hash of the movie's "action" scenes, just to induce the perhaps more jaded of its potential fans to watch the thing. I know that what happens between production of film in the can and the appearance of film trailer at point of distribution to audience can be kind of like writing for a newspaper where the reporter is not who edits a preview or creates the headline... or like writing a novel when sometimes it's the book publisher gets last word on the eyeball-catching book jacket or even its title. It has to be frustrating to know that the marketers and bean counters will have the last word.
There some explosions...
Ha ha ha. Nailed it. I’m looking for a solid Atmos system for my home theatre. Any suggestion?!
I need to see if this is as funny as I remember it. I have several Western comedies I used too think were really funny but some, not so much anymore. Cat Ballou was kind of like that.Going retro right now. I'm watching "Support Your Local Sheriff", a western comedy with James Garner surrounded by an impressive group of character actors: Jack Elam, Walter Brennan, Harry Morgan, Henry Jones, and Bruce Dern as a dimwitted outlaw.
Garner's his usual self--an amiable dude who gets by on his wits as much as his gun--and he's got to deal with, among other things, a jail that has no bars on the cells because (as Morgan puts it) "we sent away for 'em and they ain't arove yet."
It's free on Prime. I've seen this a number of times before, but it just never gets old.
Don't worry He didn't spoil it. He cleared up the parts I couldn't hear!@Huntn spoilers bro spoiler....

[...] a complete system like the R-820F (center, rears, front (mains), front (Atmos), sub, ~$2600 at MSRP, but usually you can find a pretty notable discount).
It was pretty good.Don't worry He didn't spoil it. He cleared up the parts I couldn't hear!

TV series.
Is it good though? It looks like it will be pretty good.
Oh, Ok...good. The neighbors dog keeps trotting over in my yard again, I’m thinking 750W of pure stomping bass should fix that issue real quick.
Thanks. Look at the home theater thread in the community forum. There’s some interesting set-ups in their. LG, Samsung, Pioneer are all contenders. But I’d say it depends what you’re willing to spend. Also, I’d ask you what the dimensions are of your home theater and is it carpeted or hardwood, because I think that’s a big part of how the sound travels, And ultimately resonates throughout the room. I have vaulted ceiling’s in my living room, and I originally had an LG 600W System, and it was until I upgraded to JBL Harmon that changed everything.
Quick side note:
I just now saw your reply to me in the iPhone forum from a day or so ago, and for whatever reason with the ‘new’ forum migration, if there’s a post ‘merged‘ when someone replies to multiple members, I never see the merged post.[Just wanted to let you know, as I wasn’t ignoring you.] I should mention it to Arnold Kim regarding the issue.
@akash.nu Speaking of discounts, they're doing 25% direct right now and free shipping, so that's the 820F system for $2644 - $661 discount, under $2KI got an email about the sale, and thought I'd follow up.
I love that film.I think so.
Garner (looks at badge with bullet dent in it.): “This must’ve saved the life of whoever was wearing it.”
Morgan: “Well, it sure would have, if it hadn’t been for all those other bullets flyin’ in from everywhere.”
Then there’s that “Hold it! Hold it!” gag which they pull not once, but twice. 😂
Did you like Erin Brockovich (movie)? If you have not seen it, it’s excellent, interesting, and entertaining and it’s based on chemical pollution in people’s drinking water by a corporation who knew about it and really did not give a damn whose lives were ruined. Julia Robert’s best and most memorable performance, because it’s based on reality, not a fantasy hooker story.Latest movie I watched? Dark Waters.
Went into it not having any idea what it'd be about. It's like a documentary of a big legal battle one man gets obsessed with waging against DuPont Corp. over pollution they created in West Virigina when they started making Teflon. I'm sure it takes some creative license with some of the facts to enhance the story ... but seemed pretty realistic.
I'm not usually a big fan of these "environmentalist" type flicks -- but this one covers such a flagrant violation of the law by DuPont, it's pretty amazing. Doubly so when you realize the lawyer devoting his life to uncovering it used to work as a corporate attorney FOR these types of companies!
I recommend it.
A great film. Just the right mix of action and comedy.

True Lies (1994)- 76% Audience score RT. That seems low to me. What’s not to like?
This is one of James Cameron’s best films (the man is a genius, and reportedly a jerk to the women in his life, but I digress) and Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s most polished performance, a tongue-in-cheek spy thriller, that works on all levels boosted by Tom Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis. We spend a lot of time chuckling listening to Tom Arnold’s comic relief. And Arnold has a great stunt double, you can hardly tell it’s not him.
The movie has nice little attention to detail touches, like the front of Arnold’s shirt being sliced in a knife fight, when Arnold tosses his gun while hanging over the side of a Marriott, you can see it falling out of sight, and the flames above Arnold when he swims under water. The last hour of this movie is incredible! Most impressive for me is the Harrier footage, especially saving Jamie Lee on the bridge, and putting Arnold in the pilot’s seat hovering a Harrier in downtown Miami, next to a high rise shooting terrorists.
Surprisingly this movie does appear available to stream rent/buy other than a subscription to HBO, and the only version I saw for sale is in DVD format. Very curious. I have it on DVD.
Happy Star Wars day to you to!
Just watched that one the other day! Seen it many times before! "Two wrong feet in f*ckin' ugly shoes" 😂 😂 😂Did you like Erin Brockovich (movie)?
