One of those movies I can watch countless times! I'm still miffed that I missed it when it was on the TV here a couple of weeks ago, I should see if it's available for rental somewhere...

Kevin Kline really hits it out of the park in this one, and the rest of the cast doesn't fall too short of that either.
I’ve not seen that many Kevin Kline movies, but his Otto is superb. :)

Shout out to @hawkeye_a for the plug.

Truthfully and oddly, this one made me think of an 80s porno.😁 It’s your typical horror movie mixed with the 80’s strange vibe. Nuff said.

He's one of those actors that there's those couple of performances that really stick with you, but other than those you need to occasionally google the movies he's been in and be surprised at the results. At least for me that's the case. Can't really remember ever seeing him do a bad job, but performances like Otto? Those don't come along often.

The Void (2016)

Another film that looks to Lovecraft for inspiration, nor does the Void disappoint. Very little in the way of CGI, rather and very refreshingly solid practical effects designed to shock.

Given the limited budget the Void impresses, feels a little thin on the story, which tends to reduce the immersion. All the same one to wat if in to the genre & HPL.

Black Mountain Side (2014)
1600638214197.png

Powerful and dramatic, more an exploration into the mind of those placed into the unknown & unexplainable circumstance. Slow at times, equally an Action Horror this film is not, with the slow pace favouring the overarching story. HPL inspired darkness & insanity prevails as the story unravels and the horror is revealed.

There is some similarity to Carpenter's 1982 The Thing, however that's as far as it goes, with isolation, an unknown foe and sanity being the common traits. Black Mountain Side brings it's own foreboding to the viewer willing to invest into the film.

Somehow you always manage to pull a movie out of the random I’ve never heard of that ends up being a good watch. I’ll definitely check this one out too. Keep up the good work!

Is an indie film so need to balance the expectation, equally pretty good. Took me a couple of watches to really get into it as it gets more interesting on the personal level...

One of the better Steven King adaptation's, one of the few that get's Cosmic Horror right. The deepest seated fears are from within, what we will do, how we will react, if and when...

If you enjoy King or HPL literature a must watch.

I loved this movie. Ive seen it many times. The director (Frank Darabont) reportedly gave up his directorial salary to keep his ending that was different from the book. Personally, I thought the ending was great, and I’m glad he stuck to his gut. It really drove home the whole struggle that all the characters went through. Supposedly, even Stephen King said he wished he ended the novella that way. I originally read it a long time ago as part of a collection of short stories by King, and remember a few differences. May have to read it again to refresh my memory.

Got a yearning for some decent Sci-Fi horror, however finding something that's fresh, semi original and new to me is becoming ever more a challenge...

Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Billy Wilder. A perfect, delicate movie. One of my favorites if not my favorite movie of all times.

The Blues Brothers (1980) by John Landis. Just a great movie, with a great soundtracks, with great musicians that - channeling my inner curmudgeon- makes me wonder what the heck happened to music.

Hopefully you watched The Call of Cthulhu by the HPLHS. A true gem.

Ok, I revisited ‘The Mist’from 2007, which I haven’t watched in a very long time. [See movie poster above.]

What I found interesting obviously was it was produced by Frank Darabont, and there’s quite a few reoccurring cast members from ‘The Walking Dead‘ in that particular movie.

Anyways, the movie itself actually starts off ‘good‘ (<— I use that word kinda loosely) with little plot incentive whatsoever, and I think that’s what fell short for me, is that your left guessing throughout the entire movie what exactly is transpiring, why what is happening, only to know there’s ‘alien octopuses’ outside. However, I do think the element of fear really is what you can’t see, that was really well done in the deep fog. But in terms of the movie itself, it does fall flat for me personally, but I think the CGI was very good dating back from 2007.

{Really the only reason I watched ‘The Mist’, was I do like Thomas Jane, and if you haven’t watched ‘The Punisher’ from 2004, that’s worth a watch, as he was excellent in the comic book adaption.}

The end had a nice twisted end compared to the book.

The end had a nice twisted end compared to the book.

It usually seems the direction of books are much different than the movie adaption
in the film industry. Which can be a good or bad depending on the ‘directors take‘ on how they make the transition to stay true to the book.
