Our local Epic theater is doing $125 for a private showing, up to 20 guests, very tempted to rent it for TENET, we'd only have like 5-6 people tops.
That would be fun. Some of our theaters around here were offering deals to book the whole theater too, but that was before they opened up to showing new movies. You could book the theater and pick from a selection of old movies.

Watch only the directors cut, the theatrical version was butchered at the insistence of studio executives resulting in a disjointed mess. Personally for me Kingdom of Heaven easily surpasses Gladiator being the deeper, more intricate and historically accurate story, although I do feel Kingdom of Heaven & Gladiator were intentionally produced for differing audiences.

Ridley Scott in his prime of masterful film making and story telling, Kingdom of Heaven comes well recommended...

I watched a Documentary last night on HBO Max called Class Action Park. I don't know why I've gone down this rabbit hole a couple times this year but it was a tonally weird documentary. It was celebrating this theme park that kills and mames people while at the same time tells you that 3 or 4 people actually died at the park.

I think you would have to pay me a million dollars to go on that loop slide.

I don't like Gladiator but I love Kingdom of Heaven.

I’m not generally a fan of Russell Crowe As a person, but as an actor in his earlier days with Gladiator, I thought he was a perfect role for the main character. The whole plot and storytelling for Gladiator was so well put together with the scenery and musical score was composed by Hans Zimmer, Everything just connected for me. I don’t mind sitting through a longer movie, if the action sequences and storytelling is synchronized where it’s not too drawn out with dialogue, where this film did a great job of giving the ~highs and lows~ of great action scenes mixed with some raw emotion. But let’s not forget Joaquin Phoenix, I seriously think that put him ‘on the map‘ deeper into his career and I was really impressed with him all together.

In respect to ‘horror films’, this is by far my top movie that ranks the scariest and creepiest on every level humanly possible. It’s the perfect segue movie into Halloween, if you haven’t watched this and you’re Like me that wants a movie that doesn’t rely on CGI to scare you, this is that film. These Indie-type films with no-name actors are sometimes what makes a film so complete, Because there’s so much more effort involved in making a film like this, that doesn’t rely on technology with ‘effects.’

So essentially, this movie is about a curse that continuously will follow you until it’s passed on to somebody else. That’s all you really need to know about this film. And what creates this film to make it all the more scary isn’t just the sneaky camera angles and overall fear tactics, but the soundtrack has riveting moments that will not let you draw your eyes away from the screen.

Enjoy...Preferably with the lights dimmed.😁

An amazing film. One I'm going to rewatch tonight. The soundtrack is indeed great, and all the other good things I have to say about the film are practically spoilers, so let's leave it at "amazing film".

Charlie Kaufman: I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020) Netflix

Watched this a couple of nights back, and have been thinking about it ever since. A woman travels with her new boyfriend to meet his parents for the first time. It's snowing heavily, and the roads are treachereous. Someone's thinking of ending things, whatever they may be.

I liked this one a lot. It's based on a book, that I haven't read, so I have no idea how it relates when it comes to telling the story, but for me, here and now, that's irrelevant. The writing is great, Jessie Buckley (credited as Young Woman) and Jesse Plemons (her boyfriend Jake) knock it right out of the park as the new couple on the road, and Toni Collette is her usual amazing self as Jake's mother. The way the film switches between inner monologue and actual spoken dialogue is pretty inventive, and the sparseness of musical cues really adds to the tense atmosphere. The 4:3 aspect ratio also helps in keeping things tightly framed, almost claustrophobic in a way. In addition to that it made me check the setting on my TV twice before I was able to start enjoying the movie.

I read a review of the movie where it was said to be "almost Lynchian" stylistically, and I'd have to agree. I definitely need to watch this one again at some point.

I'm watching Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves. Keanu is a very bad boy!

I hated this movie!

I’m looking for this movie now to watch it. I love horror movies and can only watch them when my kids are not home (8yo will have nightmares just from a glance)

Definitely not for an eight-year-old, but if you have a chance, let us know what your thoughts were on ‘It follows.’ And welcome to the movie thread.

I have seen this twice, and enjoyed it. I own a copy of it (iTunes).
The second time I watched it, I missed something at the end that my GF pointed out to me. Not sure if I saw it the first time watching it either... Funny that she hated the movie, I really liked it, and she pointed something out to me I completely glossed over the second go around. Guess it was good she watched it!

The following two movies are not for everyone especially the second one, but since we are in the horror vein...

The Monster can’t be taken at face value, and received some good critics’ reviews. Less so with audiences, but I enjoyed it. It’s not a fast moving film. From the director of The Strangers.

If you’re into brutal movies give The Martyrs 2008 a shot. It’s a French film with subtitles. It was remade in the states, but there is no comparison between the two. The French version wins hands down. Be warned; it’s brutal, and some will think it’s trash. It genre is horror, but some will put it into the “torture porn” category. Has anyone seen the French version? I’d love to hear what you think of it.

This one sure is a doozy. On the one hand I understand why people call it "gratuitous", "torture porn", "vile" and whatnot, but on the other hand I also get what the director was going for when making the film. The actresses really do a great job in pretty demanding roles. Haven't seen the remake, have no interest in watching it.

It's one of those movies on my shelf that I'm glad are there, but if I'm just looking for something to watch to turn my brain off I rarely go for this one.

Watched “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things” last night. Netflix exclusive, in U.S. anyway, by Charlie Kaufman. Loved Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind but this movie, ugh. Stay away unless you want to be bored out of your mind for 2+ hours with an art house discourse on loneliness. We were laughing at the end about how much we hated it, but finished it because we thought maybe just maybe it would have a twist or something at the end to reveal something hidden or clever. Nope just a slog of dreariness.
