Good Time [2017]

This movie made me think of the film ‘Rain Man’, in a sense of how a brother cares for his younger mentally handicap brother, but mixed with a ‘crime sense’ involved in this particular movie.

The pot is where two Brothers burglarize a bank, and one of them is apprehended (Mentally handicapped), and the older brother attempt to break out his younger brother from a hospital where he’s being observed for injuries, only to find out that he actually rescued somebody that was not his brother.

The overall critic ratings are very good, but I can see why a general audience may not like it, because it is a very different take on a movie that kind of has a messy plot. (Robert Pattinson is the only real well-known actor in this film.)

The musical score is also really unique to the film, but overall, I think this was a decent film and it doesn’t really have any major plot twist, it just kind of shows you the ‘risks aren’t really worth the rewards’ at times.

{Oh, and I’m really looking forward to seeing Robert Pattinson as Batman in the reboot in Fall 2022. I know the film was delayed due to the pandemic, but I seriously think he’s going to nail this role and bring a new persona to the Batman theme.}

One of my favorites by QT.

Hateful 8, which I enjoyed, was utter crap IMHO.

Never seen DJango.

‘Hateful 8’ problem was it was too long, and it was the same sequence of events that carried out almost entirely in the cabin. Christoph Waltz (Hans Landa from Inglorious Basterds) was actually intended to be the lead role for this movie, but he was filming James Bond ‘Spectre’ at the time, which I would’ve loved to seen him in Tarantino‘s the Hateful 8. But it is what it is.

Oh, and your assignment is to watch Django unchained and report back in a reasonable amount of time.😁
Hateful 8- (2015 Extended Version) 76% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. Basically how to waste 4 hours of your life. I only hung in there because of the name Tarentino, waiting, hoping for a payoff. Hopes dashed, lol. :)

  • Best Quality: Photography, it really felt like this was filmed in a blizzard in Wyoming. Nice cinematography for what there was of the outdoors. I wondered if this was cgi or real snow.
  • Favorite actor: Walton Goggins, as Sherrif Mannix.
  • Characters: Almost interesting if they had been connected to a good story.
  • Story: I guess it could of happened like this, but the role of a story teller is to pull you in, wow you with his/her brilliance. After the first of 4, approx 1 hour episodes, with endless slightly colorful, but droning chit chat, I was like, get to the point. I hung on because of the name Tarantino.
  • Acting: Over acted or if you prefer flamboyant acting. I’m sure the director wanted this. In light of the other mentioned factors. these characters were on the edge of being interesting.
  • Dialog: Labored, lots of almost intriguing interactions.
  • Violence: Extreme with gallons of blood pouring out of people, a Tarantino tradition, yes?
  • Sex: Hmm, male nudity, and a depiction of a forced male/male sex act. No points from me. :)
  • As a 2 Hr movie, I think it would have bombed at the theater. Was it at the theater?
  • Episode 4 is the fill in the blanks episode, I did not care at that point.
  • Verdict: Spend 4 hours of your life watching something better.

Huntn, I really like the ‘Hateful 8’. I think the biggest criticism, was that the plot setting primarily surrounding the cabin the whole time, which really didn’t make much for a dynamic other than the wilderness/snow scenes. All together, I really liked that film and it has a huge cast, and of course it’s inappropriately funny, but has decent action sequences as you would expect from Quentin Tarantino.

Never liked Quentin Tarantino films. I’ve only watched 1 or 2 all the way through.

Just watched ‘The Professor and The Madman’ on Netflix of all places. Surprisingly good story about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary. Mel Gibson and Sean Penn star in it. Based on a true (mostly) story.

I think the single biggest achievement of this film is the environment, and the immersive way the front door in the interior shots (on a set) felt like they were really out in the wilderness. Everything else almost clicked for me. :)

The 2011 Thor with Chris Hemsworth was the only one that I actually liked in the entire series. Aside from that, if you look at Chris Hemsworth in general, he’s a pretty lean dude, but he literally put on -bodybuilding- size for that movie, and I believe it was around 20 pounds of muscle that he trained extensively to look like that. I don’t know about you, but that’s insane to add that amount of muscle gains in preparation for filming. (However, I also suspect he probably was on gear with GH, test and deca for steroid compounds, not dismissing his hardwork, just sayin.)

Anyways, the plot was really good, and had a good emotional draw and it set the premise for future films with great action scenes. In the marvel world films, Thor (2011) would be in my top three for sure.

Watched one of the Mission impossible movies. No idea which. They all merge into one!
Also watched the Witchhunter. Doesn’t matter what the film is called, Vin Diesel always plays the same character.

Just watched I Care A Lot on Netflix U.S. It’s pretty good but although it’s genre is “dark comedy” it’s more just dark. Feels like an indy movie with well known actors. Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage and Dianne Wiest are the stand outs but Chris Messina and Isaiah Whitlock show up as well. It revolves around a business woman who profits from getting vulnerable elderly patients certified by a court order to be in need of guardianship, whereupon she steps in and gains control of their assets while “caring” for them. It’s gross and and sad and infuriating but she is a shark and has no remorse. Ultimately she reaches too far and the roller coaster ride begins. I’d say the trailer gives a pretty good feel for the movie, but this movie seems to be eliciting some strong reactions. I liked it but feel kinda worked over by it.

Monster [2004]

Uncontested, this is Charlize Theron‘s best performance in her career. And if you’re not familiar with her as an actress, she’s a beautiful woman, it’s amazing that they transformed her really what she is in this movie, well....which is a ‘monster’.

Charlize Theron’s character is a prostitute (Aileen Wuernos), but becomes a habitual serial killer that steals from her victims to continue her journey with Her love interest, [who is Christina Ricci].

I don’t really care about the whole ‘true story’ side of this movie, but I think what really made this movie interesting, is when you look at how feminine Theron is in real life, it’s amazing that she’s able to portray almost how a man would act with her mannerisms and actions, but very seasoned as a street thug.

I’ve always said that I think female actresses never receive enough credit that’s dominated by a male industry in filming, but this has to be one of the best female performances on the ‘big screen’, and definitely will go down as one of the most disturbing films portrayed by any female.

If you were a film junkie like myself and haven’t put this one in your library yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Watch it.

Enjoy!
